This is a tutorial that requires some knowledge of zbrush. It is not about sculpting, just an advice on how you can use IMM brush to make big scales, chest/belly plates, eyebrows, nose ridges and stuff.
Also it is my first tutorial, and hopefully I'll continue making those.
The HTML version is on my blog: http://salireths.tumblr.com/post/52.....s-scale-plates
Should I move it to scraps?

I sounded like a nerd :/
Anyway, I'll just keep it here for a day, then move to scraps, so the main gallery isn't filled with crap ^^

its not crap, its really helpful for praticing 3d artist :)
(and reminds me that I really need to get myself Zbrush :P )

that last panel could be useful in a Ref. the artist could include a sample belly scale along with the final overlap design
Yeah, if only everyone was making closeups and orthographic projections of stuff.. Modelling would be much easier ^^
Good stuff. Dynamesh is so useful.
Have you ever tried using the MatchMaker brush for this sort of thing? Just curious, as I think it could be used to achieve a similar effect.

Yes, I tried that before...Very tedious!
And turns out "projection strenght 100" makes just the same effect, so it is like IMM and match Maker brushes combined! Much easier.

Ah, good to know!
Hope you do make a few more tutorials like this, it's always nice to find ways to save time.

I had been creating scales like that, but it hadn't occurred to me to hide the previous scale to get a smooth overlap. LOL. Ah the things we miss sometimes! Great tutorial! Followed it all the way through with no trouble at all.
Simple and clear, thank you )
It will be interesting to see, how you making overall little scales.
Can I submit it in a group?
Ow, and one old question:
On a previous work you made feather on head by alpha - is it possible to use it in Zebra?

Ofcourse! Feel free to repost it ^^ The more people will see it the better.
Overral little scales tut will be in the future, i really enjoyed making these!
Feathers are made in zbrush. It is a fibermesh plane with a feather textures with transparency (zbrush handles transparency by pure black [0,0,0] color. Dont do any anti-aliasing on the edges!) I may actually make a tutorial how to make feather textures and how to apply them ^^

Sometimes it is hard even for me... It will always be, that ugly feeling... You just get used to it
This is freaking awesome. Thank you so much for this tutorial! It has just enough detail to be able to follow well. Your tip sharing is really greatly appreciated, from one modeler to another! <3
