#10: Bonbon (Bonbon)
Tera:
"Umm. . . Shouldn't this fall under the 'perspective' clause?"
Deva:
"You know, it's never clearly stated whether or not Bonbon is really as she(?) appears or just looks that way from the perspective of a child. But I'm inclined to believe the former, given that she's able to smash open a gate, helps the child pick up, and polishes off the entire cake.
"I'm also inclined to believe that Bonbon is unaware of how menacing she appears and is just looking for a little companionship." *smirks* "Give her a pouch and you just described MY childhood."
#9: Trico (The Last Guardian)
Tera:
"Oh, look, it's the last one that everybody knew would be on the list: The big giant devourer of little children. Unlike Toothless and Hamsuke, however, Trico remains fierce and scary. His cute moments with the boy are broken up between bouts of smashing apart clay soldiers, or going crazy and trying to eat the boy."
Deva:
"I'll warn you in advance, Tera, that if I ever do stumble across Trico or another like him, my superiors will DEFINITELY want me to bring one in. So much of the story is just speculative, and they will want me to investigate all that strange green glowy magical stuff."
#8: Jellybean (Hilda)
Tera:
"Two things place The Black Hound ahead of Trico. The first is that, while Trico and his kin appear to act out of malice because they are being manipulated, Jellybean acts on instinct. Even as a puppy, Jellybean provoked fear, just because people knew what he would become.
"The second is that, while Trico's true nature was revealed early in the game, Jellybean began terrorizing the citizens of Trollberg in Chapter 6, but was not actually tamed until Chapter 13."
Deva:
"But, just like Trico, he does come around. And, it turns out, he also swallows non-fatally." *grins* "Just like their future mommy."
#7: Moro (Princess Mononoke)
Tera:
"Right out of the gate, they let you know that Moro is to be feared. We see two wolves attacking a caravan, one of which is big enough for an adult human to ride upon. Then we are told those were just the babies.
"We do learn that Moro is not just a savage beast and does, in fact, have a good heart. But she doesn't roll over and accept a human as a friend. Just the opposite. She claims a human as her daughter, and even when it all looks like everyone is going to die, she doesn't let go and seems pretty insistent that her children die with her."
Deva:
"The way they treated Moro, both in the way she was depicted, and during the final act, ruined that movie for me. I would love to be able to jump into that movie, swipe Moro away at just the right moment, show her all of the human ruins that have been abandoned and overgrown, and all of the forests that have been replanted, and only go back to her world to pick up her kids, wolf and human alike, and take them all home with me."
#6: Gmork (The Neverending Story)
Tera:
"Oh, wow. Really, Deva? Gmork isn't just one of those characters that can still make you feel the same fear you felt as a child as an adult. He is literally an evil being. And he's not even in your Top 5?"
Deva:
"Think about this: Fantasia, according to Gmork himself, is the world of human fantasy. 'Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind' -- his works exactly."
Tera:
"So?"
Deva:
"Well. . . Can I do spoilers? The film is, like twenty years old by now and the Nostalgia Critic made videos about the sequels?"
Tera:
"Sure, go ahead."
Deva:
"Gmork's error was forgetting that this also applied to himself -- that he, too, was a part of that dream. Maybe he thought he was different because he'd managed to reach the human world, but that human world was actually an expansion of Fantasia.
"He chose the Manipulators as his masters and, be it out of lust for power, blind loyalty or misguided judgment, ended up working, not just for ill intent, but against his very nature.
"So Gmork isn't just not evil. He was someone's dream. Maybe that dream got corrupted, and now he just needs a new master."
*smiles* "Here Gmork." *crouches and stretches open her pouch* "Here. Here, boy." *whistles* "Wanna' meet my pet addiction demon?" *glowing red eyes appear in the blackness of her pouch*
#5: Sewer Shark (Slaughter Race)
Tera:
"Umm. . . Shouldn't that say Sewer Shark from Ralph Br-"
Deva:
"No. I hate that movie, and I hate giving it any credit whatsoever." *smiles* "But you've got to admit that her jumping out of my pouch would be hilarious. And if she can bring all of her allegedly deplorable, but actually adorable, cats and dogs with her, that's even better."
#4: Endogeny (Undertale)
Tera:
"This isn't a corruption?"
Deva:
"Possibly. It certainly is presented like one. But based on the passive outcome, I think it would be better to describe it as a collective. And as I'm sure you know by now, the only thing I love more than bringing home a new rare and unusual pet is bringing home a whole bunch of them."
#3: SCP-860-2 (SCP Containment Breach)
Tera:
"Umm. . . Deva? This may be the part where even I stop understanding you."
Deva:
"It shouldn't be. For one thing, his nickname is the Guardian. As in the guardian of the forest. Which, if I'd actually been adopting everything on this list as we went down it, would be my fifth forest guardian (after Okku, Hamsuke, Royakan, and Moro).
"Second, the Guardian occupies a pocket space. I work with such spaces all the time. Even if I could not tame him, I'd probably end up looking after him anyway even if another S.A. agent found the key.
"Finally, he's basically a tree elemental in the shape of a cat. How much harder to raise could he be than Sawsbuck?"
#2: Cerberus (Smite)
Tera:
"You know what? This one doesn't surprise me. There are only three people I can think of who would willingly try to tame a giant three-headed demon dog from Hell: Hagrid, Fluttershy, and you.
"Any particular reason you chose the Smite version?"
Deva:
"I love them all. But only the one in Smite can be given the Pup Patrol skin."
Tera:
"I. . . Dammit, now I want one too."
#1: The Sea Emperor Leviathan (Subnautica)
Tera:
"This game inspires horror -- absolute horror -- in all who play it. The terrors of the deep are massive. And the Sea Emperor Leviathan is the most massive of them all. . .
"And you want that thing in your pouch?!!"
Deva:
"Tera, come on. Yes, that scene where you see her for the first time was bowl-emptying even for me. But what's the very first thing she says? She asks if you are there to play with her.
"Yes. Yes, I am here to play. Get in my pouch and we'll start with a sack race. Don't worry, you'll fit."
Tera:
"Seriously? Even after the incident with Arthos?"
Deva:
"I've had my hammer space fixed and upgraded since then. Gear heads say I can fit a battleship through here now."
Again, this was not meant to be a top list, or even a finalized list. These are all of things we thought of that we know are scary to some and thought to see if they would be too scary for Deva to want to adopt too.
If you want to see how Deva would react to anything else you can think of, feel free to comment.
Deva:
"And if you're an artist and you want to help me prove to these guys that I'm not just talking out of my butt when I say I would adopt all of these guys, feel free to drop me a line too!" ^_^
