Dwayne Johnson to play Goliath
Set to layeth the smacketh down on Taylor Lautner
In a piece of pleasingly daft casting news, director Scott Derrickson’s search to fill the title role in upcoming Biblical epic Goliath may have led him to the door of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
According to Twitch , the former WWE star is currently in talks with Relativity Media to take on the role of the oversized warrior with a penchant for mismatched punch-ups.
Meanwhile, Derrickson ( The Last Exorcism Of Emily Rose ) also has someone in mind for Goliath’s pint-sized opponent, with Taylor Lautner reportedly having been offered the role of David.
The film will be produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, both of whom worked on the Twilight franchise and may carry some sway when it comes to persuading Lautner to sign on the dotted line.
For the Godless heathens amongst you, Goliath will be an adaptation of the famous Bible story in which the young future King of Israel must go on the run from a fearsome warrior who has been sent to kill him.
Official confirmation has yet to arrive, but for our money, Johnson would make for a pretty formidable Goliath. Presumably some CGI will have to be involved (Goliath should dwarf David rather more considerably than the ratio between Johnson and Lautner), but as far as loud-mouthed badassery goes, Johnson has it in spades.
