Flight of the Love Birds
Conchords actor Rhys Darby to star in rom-com
Following the huge success of HBO’s series Flight of the Conchords, actor Rhys Darby has been clocking up a number of small roles in big comedy movies such as Yes Man and The Boat That Rocked .
Yet he’s now taking his turn at playing the leading man, in romantic comedy Love Birds , alongside Happy-Go-Lucky star Sally Hawkins.
The film, which just started shooting in Auckland, centres around a lonely man who begins caring for a wounded bird in an attempt to heal his broken heart, after getting dumped by his girlfriend.
But it is Hawkins, who plays the role of a kooky animal specialist, that becomes the real nurse for his shattered heart… Wonder if he’ll keep his socks on when it’s “business time”?
Directed by Paul Murphy and written by Nick Ward, the film currently has no release date but it will likely be released in the UK sometime next year.
