New Planet Of The Apes pic planned?
Scott Frank may direct
Despite the critical lambasting suffered by Tim Burton’s Planet Of The Apes reboot, Fox appears to be pushing ahead with another crack at the Ape problem.
CHUD caught Fox executive Tom Rothman talking on the Fox Movie Channel across the pond this weekend, and he stoked the vaguely glowing rumour embers about a possible new film.
“We are very close at Fox on a new Apes script- this one a kind of prequel story before the first story, with a return to the social thematics that mark the first one, but with an entirely contemporary setting - Earth 2009.”
Scott Frank
Now Production Weekly, via Cinema Blend , has more: Scott Frank might be the man Fox is putting in charge of the still-untitled film, which now also boasts a plot summary.
“The origins of how the Apes took over Earth. A hyper-intelligent chimp raised by humans incites a worldwide ape revolution and causes the downfall of mankind.”
So that would seem to confirm the prequel idea is going ahead, possibly with the man who directed The Lookout (and wrote Out Of Sight and Minority Report ) at the helm. We knew those damn, dirty apes got their start somewhere…
