TV QUIZ ROUND OF THE WEEK
Can you do better than Homerton College, Cambridge? (We did.) This is the second Spurious Award for University Challenge following the show’s “name the alien language” round a few months back. And we’re beginning to think Jeremy Paxman may be a closet geek, mainly by the way he doesn’t get sneery during sci-fi rounds like he does during other popular culture rounds. Usually he’s all, “I’d wear it as a badge of honour you got all the answers wrong in a Eurovision round” but this week he was positively aghast that Cambridge couldn’t identify the Master’s theme.

Thanks to the US Science Channel for completely messing with our brains by getting Walter Bishop (or John Noble, anyway) to host a show concentrating on what can only be described as “fringe” science. But is it real? Or a joke? Or the most complex piece of below-the-line marketing ever? We wouldn’t have put it past that sneaky lot on Fringe to have created this show as some kind of alternate reality in which Walter Bishop is a media celeb, who’ll then turn up on Fringe next season. You laugh with derision now, but just you wait…
