Shooter sequel Söldner-X 2 swoops in [VIDEO]
German shmup has got more flashing lights and techno than Ibiza
Ahh the humble shoot em’ up, so simple yet so crushingly difficult. German studio SideQuest has announced the sequel to their successful shmup Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer, with Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype. Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer arrived back in 07 for PC and later for PS3, becoming a breakout hit amongst genre fans and those desperately wishing for a true sequel to SquareSoft’s brilliant Einhänder. While pronouncing the title requires at least one year of elementary German, the game managed the difficult task of being accessible but extremely challenging at the same time.

Sticking with the solid side-scrolling action that made games Like R-Type huge hits, Söldner-X 2 is part of a rare breed of modern, challenging shmups, a genre that has seen very few entrants from major studios in the past few years. Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype arrives this month on PSN, just make sure you don’t get confused by the title and end up buying a Rammstein album.
