Race Fever #1

Formula Fling

Rate this book
Welcome to Formula International, where legends are born and speed is king. From New York Times Bestselling Author Sawyer Bennett comes the Race Fever series, set within the fast-paced and dangerous world of formula racing.

Posey Evans is looking to take her career as a romance author to the next level, shifting from historical love stories to writing about the high stakes world of formula racing. Wanting to immerse herself in the sport, Posey manages to secure full access to the Crown Velocity Racing team by faking credentials as a journalist. When she’s granted unlimited face-to-face time with one of the teams’ best drivers, Posey is equal parts elated and terrified because while she’s getting exactly what she wants, she can’t afford to have her secret exposed.

Lex Hamilton lives for the thrill of being one of the fastest and most decorated race car drivers in the sport. When he’s behind the wheel, he’s focused on one thing and one thing only—earning top spot on the podium. But off the track? Let’s just say his extracurricular activities have put him on a very short leash with the team management at Crown Velocity. He’s cocky, handsome, dripping with swagger, and not super happy to have what he considers a babysitter following his every move. Lex’s unwillingness to help doesn’t deter Posey but when he uncovers her secret, they strike a deal—he won’t reveal her truth if she helps him stay out of trouble and keep his job.

While many women would swoon at his feet, Posey isn’t interested in anything more than Lex’s racing knowledge. Mostly. As the season inches closer and passions ignite, time at the track leads to time in the bed. Having agreed there is an expiration date on their arrangement, what started as an assignment has the potential to go the distance as their physical relationship builds into something deeper. But when her secret is revealed, will Lex and Posey’s relationship hit a wall, or will this fling find its way to the checkered flag?

Formula Fling was my first read by Sawyer Bennett, and it was a good time. I don't know much about Formula 1 racing, so reading about a new sport was fun. Posey Evans is a romance author looking to change genres and write a Formula 1 romance. So she can learn to walk the walk and talk the talk, she poses as a journalist to gain access to a popular F1 team. Lex Hamilton is the bad boy driver on the Crown Velocity Racing team. He's a great driver but isn't great at managing his image off the track. When Posey is tasked with shadowing Lex to get content for her article, he is initially against this plan. As they spend time together, the dynamic of their relationship changes. A secret is discovered, a deal is made, and lines are crossed.

Formula Fling is definitely a page-turner with an entertaining storyline. I enjoyed the development of Lex and Posey's relationship, and they had amazing chemistry. Lex was not very likable initially, but he experienced some growth throughout the story. There is more to him than the bad boy persona he shows the world. Posey is likable, real, and relatable. I loved the opposites attract dynamic and the contrast between their personalities and lifestyles. Their journey had some ups and downs, but I was satisfied with Lex and Posey's happy ending. This story had the right balance of drama, romance, and steam. I'm so glad this is the first book in a new series, and I can't wait to read more.

Narration:
Kit Swann and Sean Masters perform this audiobook in dual-style narration. They bring passion, humor, drama, and chemistry, making it easy to be transported into the author's F1 world. Sean's British accent is a plus! Kit and Sean were the perfect voices for Posey and Lex and brought them to life in the best way. Their performances enhanced my listening experience and enjoyment of the story.

Thanks to Sawyer Bennett, Lyric Audiobooks, and Must Love Audio for the ALC. Opinions expressed are my own.

An exciting new series by Sawyer Brown, and it is a good one! She has started a new series about Formula One (F1) racing. This story has all the ear marks of a Sawyer Bennett read. Posey and Lex have chemistry from the beginning, tried to ignore it, decided to have a fling, and we are guaranteed an HEA. The story was authentic as she has really done her homework on the world of Formula racing and I felt thoroughly immersed in that world. It was a fun exciting read and I’m so looking forward to the next in this series.

This story follows Lex and Posie. Lex, a famous F1 driver, is quite the ladies’ man with no intentions of settling down anytime soon. Now, he has a shadow following his every move—Posie Evans, a reporter hired to learn the ropes of the F1 world. However, Posie is keeping a big secret. What will happen when the truth comes to light?

I really enjoyed this read. I love how opposite these characters are—Lex with his luxurious lifestyle and Posie, a sweet Southern girl stepping out of her comfort zone yet standing her ground. She has some self-conscious moments, which I loved because it felt so human. I found Posie to be such a lovable character. Lex shows great character growth throughout the story and proves to be surprisingly thoughtful. This book was a good feel-good read, and I especially loved the F1 element since I’m a huge fan. The audiobook is brilliant, so I highly recommend picking it up if you decide to read this!

This was a great start to Sawyer Bennett's new series. I love that she is doing a series on Racecar Drivers, which is sadly lacking in sports romances.

Posey Evans is a Romance Author who wants to write a Sports Romance about Racecar Drivers. So she fakes being a Sports Journalist and is granted full access to one of the top drivers of the Crown Velocity Racing team. She has her work cut out for her since she is to shadow Lex Hamilton 24/7; the notorious Playboy has a knack for getting himself in trouble.

Posey is a romance author secretly posing as a journalist in order to get all the insider information she needs for her brand new sports (racing) romance series. Lex is the star racer for Crown Velocity Racing and gets stuck showing Posey around, as they hope having a journalist around will keep him from misbehaving. What starts off as a rocky introduction soon leads to Lex wanting to spend more and more time with Posey. Can the racing bad boy change his stripes?

This was a really fun one! The audio was really well done. Sean and a British accent is like butter for the ears, it was audibly satisfying! He did such a great job at capturing the cheekiness of Lex and all the other characters! This was my first listen of Kit's and she did such an amazing job, especially interchanging so flawlessly between a British and Souther American accent, and she really made you fall in love with Posey as a character. Together they interacted so well, you could feel the chemistry between Lex and Posey and made for such a fun read.

I will admit some accent combinations are fine for reading, but for an audio, is a little jarring and didn't always mesh well.

This was my first book by Sawyer and am looking forward to reading more! I need more racing romances in my life so excited to see where she goes with the rest of this series!

✨ Secrets, speed, and swoon-worthy romance—buckle up for this thrilling ride through the world of Formula 1!

Read if you like: strangers-to-lovers, secret identity, cocky heroes, determined heroines, steamy romance, racing drama, and heartfelt HEAs.

📚 Welcome to the world of Formula International, where speed is king and love takes unexpected turns. Romance author Posey Evans fakes her way into the Crown Velocity Racing team to research her new book but finds herself in the fast lane with Lex Hamilton, a champion driver dripping with swagger and a flair for trouble. Their deal—he keeps her secret, and she keeps him in check—unravels into a passionate connection that defies their expectations. But when truths come to light, will their love reach the finish line?

👨‍👧 Posey is a determined, endearing heroine chasing her dreams in the glamorous but cutthroat racing world. Lex exudes confidence on the track and undeniable charm off it. Together, their banter and chemistry are as fast and fiery as the cars Lex drives.

💞 Lex and Posey’s love story sizzles with tension, playful moments, and undeniable attraction. From London nightclubs to late-night confessions, their relationship deepens into something meaningful—my only pet peeve was the third act break-up.

✍️ Sawyer Bennett delivers a page-turning, heart-racing romance that blends high-speed thrills with tender emotional beats. The audiobook narration by Kit Swann and Sean Masters brings Posey and Lex to life with perfection—Kit’s vulnerability and Sean’s British charisma are unforgettable.

🌟 Overall, Formula Fling is a captivating start to the Race Fever series. If you love a romance that balances passion, humor, and heart in a high-stakes setting, this is the book for you.

📲 QOTD: If you could spend a day learning behind-the-scenes secrets of any professional sport, which would you choose? 👇

Formula Fling, book one in Ms. Bennett’s new Race Fever series and we are treated to a unique sports romance story where life and fiction run side by side, but we also get a glimpse into the world of car racing.
Posey Evans is a romance writer that is posing as a journalist to get information about the Formula International racing lifestyle to write a new romance book and she is assigned to shadow one of the Crown Velocity’s premier race car drivers.
Lex Hamilton is arrogant and definitely a playboy who seems to find himself in trouble with the media. He definitely doesn’t want a journalist following him around, but what he doesn’t expect is to fall for her sass and to fall for her.
He finds out her rouse and makes a deal but getting to know each other forces a change to their relationship and neither expects the passion that burns between them.
I love a story where the guy who has sworn off relationships falls and falls hard for someone he doesn’t see coming and I love a strong heroine who stands up for herself and gives him a run for his money. Lex and Posey are that and so much more.
I am also excited to see what comes next in this new series with this whole new cast of characters.
I had the added benefit of listening to the audio version of this book and the narrators did an amazing job that absolutely added to my enjoyment of this story!

I was excited to start this one. I had read Swayer in the past and really enjoyed her writing. I’ve never read any formula one racing books before though and I even commented before going in that I hope she explains in the book the rules because I have no idea what I’m getting into. Don’t worry, she does. lol in fact, I think this is a fantastic book for anyone who is unfamiliar with formula one and wants to read about it, in a fictional way obviously, because the main female character Posey is a romance author who poses as a journalist who is shadowing the hottest F1 driver to write an article on him, F1, and how to get women interested in the sport. I think the characters journey and research is almost like our own research if you’re unfamiliar, like I was.

I was also ecstatic for this audio because I absolutely love Sean Masters and Kit Swann. They did absolutely fantastic. And Sean with a British accent 🥵🥵🥵 yes please!

My first ever F1 romance!! I loved it and had so much fun with this one. 💖

This was a great foray into a new sport for me, and I loved the forbidden aspect of Lex and Posey’s relationship. She’s the “reporter” working to write a positive article to help turn Lex’s public image around, since hes the team’s bad boy. But as it turns out…. She’s not there to write an article 🤫 she wants to get more knowledge around F1 for her spicy romance series that she’s writing. ✍🏼 so what happens when Lex finds out?? The unexpected, that’s what. 😂

This was spicy, and flirty and I loved their banter! I’m excited for more to come with this series!!

The narration for this, performed by Sean Masters and Kit Swann, was so spot on. I loved the accents and the performances both narrators did. They just added to the fun of Lex and Posey’s story! Highly recommend the audio. 😍

Excited for a new series from Sawyer! Lex is one of the best racers in Formula One at the moment, but his bad boy behavior is risking his spot with his team and the league. As a way to control him and keep him out of trouble, the team assigns him to have a shadow through a reporter writing a story on the team and the sport. Nothing is ever as it seems though, since the reporter, Posey, actually isn’t a reporter at all and is actually a romance writer who is looking to transition her career from historical romance to sports romance and is using this opportunity to learn everything she can to make her new book more authentic. As Lex and Posey spend more time together, Lex is somewhat enamored by how Posey acts and dresses in comparison to what he usually is involved with, and when he finds out that she isn’t who she says she is, he decides to keep her secret as long as she does what he wants. But the more time they spend together, the more the lines blur between the friendship they’ve formed and something more, and when a jealous teammate risks what they’ve built, it’s unclear if they can ever recover. This was such a great introduction to this series, and I cannot wait to see what Sawyer does with the series and these characters!

I'm super excited to be getting a racing series from Sawyer Bennett! I love Posey and that she is a romance author. Her plan for time with Crown Velocity was such a fun storyline. Lex isn't mister perfect to start, and I really liked that, actually. It made for a journey for Lex to see what he really wants in his life and his priorities. I really enjoyed these two as a couple, and I liked that they are so different from each other. Posey really seemed to knock Lex on his butt and really make him rethink so much about his life. I am so excited to be jumping in a racing world. I love racing, but I don't know much about F1, so this will be a fun ride!

Racecar driver/romance author, playboy to reform his ways, secrets and hot spice.

I listened to the audiobook of this, and loved it! I think that hearing the voices gives you so much more as a reader. You really can feel the emotions. You connect much quicker to the characters as well. These narrators were top notch.

This book is the first in the series and can be read as a complete stand alone.

You will get some fun little Easter eggs though if you have read some of the other series. But they are just minor, so if you haven't read the books you won't miss anything. But if you have the Easter eggs will give you quite a giggle.

An incredible story written with such an authenticity! Sawyer managed to capture the scenes with such precision that it took me to a different dimension! I was so in awe! The passion on two different fronts, from racing to love! Im just amazed! Thrilling and exciting! So many indications of what might be on the horizon has gotten me on high alert for what’s to come!! Truly incredible!

3.0 Stars. This was a quickie lightweight romance that lasted just 221 pages. There's an abrupt ending that implied a longer relationship would be had. An okay read. I wasn't really interested in formula one racing, but Sawyer Bennett is on my list of fav authors, and I wanted to give it a try. Hopefully, this was just a slow start, and the series steps up.

This was my first F1 romance (excuse me, FI), and it was so fun! I could tell that Sawyer Bennett is a skilled sports romance author because she did her homework on the sport. I expect sports to be in my sports romances, and this absolutely delivered. The narrators chosen for this story were a perfect fit. I loved the chemistry between the heroine and the hero, and how everything played out. I would definitely pick up a Sawyer Bennett book again. I'm glad I listened to this!

4 A New World to Love Stars!!

I love when one of my favorite authors introduces me to a new fictional world and with Formula Fling we’re diving into F1 racing and Lex and Poppy’s story. Lex is the “bad boy” of the racing world and Poppy, a romance author (shhhh it’s a secret) is in the UK to write a story and take her career to another level. The secret is, that no one knows that she’s playing a role to get her story ideas until one night with Lex where she’s his “bodyguard” so to speak and he figures out what she’s doing… things just got interesting!!

I was lucky enough to be able to listen to the fabulous Kit Swann and Sean Masters bring this world to life and they do a phenomenal job with their accents and all the mannerisms that are British. I truly felt I was in the UK because these two narrators are so good at what they do! I loved the pull and tug that Lex and Poppy have between them. This young woman is the complete opposite of Lex and he’s resentful that she’s been tasked with shadowing him to get his reputation under control combined with his attraction to her because it’s clear she’s a sweet and innocent in the ways of romance.

I loved how their story and relationship built as the book progresses. Being in the racing world was a thrilling experience. There are some outside forces that may not be happy with Lex and Poppy becoming a couple and how that changes them, hello Ronan, I’m talking to you… he’s got issues and I’m hoping eventually it bites him you know where!

Throughout this book, we see a change in both Poppy and Lex and what that means for both of them because it could possibly make all their dreams come true even if there’s some definite speed humps in the road! Ms. Bennett did a magnificent job with all the idiosyncrasies of this world making me excited to read more about Crown Velocity Racing!

Formula 1 lovers (and all those who aren’t too), you are definitely going to want to add this to your list! Posey and Lex’s story is so much fun! The bad boy driver and romance author posing as a journalist mashup was entertaining from beginning to end. I loved the pace, the character and relationship growth, the chemistry and tension, and all the fun places Sawyer’s writing takes us.

Sean Masters and Kit Swann narrate, and they were amazing together! Just when I thought Sean couldn’t get any better, he goes and pulls off a fantastic British accent. Kit’s soft and sweet cadence complemented Posey’s personality perfectly. I highly recommend listening to this one, the audiobook really enhanced the story for me.

I’m obsessed with Formula 1—it’s the only sport I watch religiously. Naturally, I can’t resist a steamy F1 romance, and I even keep a huge list of them on my blog (link here). But Formula Fling by Sawyer Bennett takes it to the next level by combining two of my favorite things: the romance book world and the high-stakes world of racing. With a romance author as the heroine and a driver as the hero, Formula Fling had me hooked and racing to the finish line before I even opened it!

Sawyer knew my love for the sport and asked me to beta read Formula Fling. As a former attorney, she takes copyright law very seriously and was careful not to use “Formula 1” or “F1” to avoid legal issues. At first, I worried this might feel like a lazy workaround. I’m so happy to say I WAS WRONG. Sawyer clearly knows her racing and nailed it!
“A partying bad boy race car driver and a romance author who’s not sure what love is. What an oddball pair we make.”

Posey, a historical romance author, decides to try her hand at writing a contemporary romance set in the world of Formula racing. To get the inside scoop, she fakes credentials and poses as a journalist writing an in-depth article about the sport for Americans.

Lex Hamilton, a top driver for Crown Velocity, has been in hot water due to his reputation as a playboy troublemaker. Team Principal Harley Patrick (yes, a female—love it!) pairs Posey with him to shadow him 24/7, serving not just as a journalist but also as a babysitter to keep him out of trouble.

At first, Lex resents Posey’s presence, but that changes quickly. She’s nothing like the models who usually grace his arm, and there’s something about her that makes Lex want to turn over a new leaf.
“Sure, we agreed that this was just a fling, something fun and temporary, but she’s unlike any woman I’ve ever been with. Something delicious about her gets under my skin, and I really can’t figure it out.”

There’s a LOT of racing information in this book. I thought I knew everything about the sport, but I even learned a few things. For newbies, this book gives you everything you need to dive into the sport and sets the stage for the rest of the series. You will probably become a fan! For F1 fans, it’s accurate, rich in engineering and strategy, and feels so authentic it’s like Sawyer went straight to McLaren for insider details. I’m just starting the beta read for the second book in the series, Formula Chance, and I already love how it features a female strategy engineer! The Race Fever Series is shaping up to be a top-of-podium win for me.
“He’s a man who’s all hard and fast, but the reverence with which he treats me tells me there’s more to Lex Hamilton than I could have imagined.”

Likes:
•The accuracy of the F1 (oops, sorry, FI) world. There was a lot of behind-the-scenes F1 stuff as well as races, and I just gobbled it up like candy.
•I loved the highlight of women in motorsports.
•The FMC is a romance author and talks about some behind-the-scenes aspects of the indie publishing world.
•Lots of on-track excitement.
•All of the travel and glitz and glamour of Formula racing.
•The fun twist.
•He fell first.
•They had great chemistry.
•A ‘villain’ you love to hate.
•The perfect amount of hot sex.
•Fun tie-in with Sawyer’s hockey romances.

Dislikes:
•Of course, I understand why Sawyer couldn’t use “F1,” but I wish it had been possible. Trademark protection is real, and F1 has been especially aggressive this year with creatives using its name.

The Narration:
I got the audiobook ALC about two months after reading the beta version, and the narrators really brought it to life! Sean Masters and Kit Swann are pretty new to me (I have heard her 1 other time, on an F1 romance!) and I loved hearing fresh voices. They fit the characters perfectly and brought all the racing and bedroom excitement to life.

The Down & Dirty:
Formula Fling by Sawyer Bennett perfectly merges my love for the romance book world and F1 racing! With accurate racing details and a captivating romance, it may be my favorite F1 romance yet. Whether you’re new to the sport or a die-hard fan, this one’s a winner.

Rating: 5 Stars, 3 Heat, 5 Narration

Disclosure: I beta read the book, got an ALC of the audio, and I now work as a PA for Sawyer. BUT, I SWEAR, that didn't affect my review. Since I had a say, if there was anything I didn't like, I told her and she fixed it, so of course I loved it!

Review by Trinette Dungee

Historical romance writer Posey Evans wants to try her hand at sports romance. With Formula International Racing having its first female team principle, Posey decided this would be the perfect sport to start her off. Misrepresenting herself as a journalist to Crown Velocity Racing, she manages to gain all access to the team. Not only has she snagged this all-access pass, but she’s been assigned to “shadow” racing’s bad boy Lex Hamilton. If there’s a tabloid within two feet, Lex will end up on the cover of it. This assignment isn’t exactly what Posey was looking for, but beggars can’t be choosers, so be Lex’s shadow she will; and hopes she doesn’t blow her cover while doing it.

Lex Hamilton is skating on thin ice in the world of racing. The powers that be are getting fed up with his antics. When journalist Posey Evans is assigned to follow him around to gain material for an “article” she’s writing give the sport a more exposure, he’s less than thrilled. Learning Posey isn’t who she says she is, gives him the perfect opportunity for him to get rid of her, but instead, he finds himself offering to help her, because like it or not, Posey does help keep him on the straight and narrow.

This is the first book in a brand-new series from Sawyer Bennett, and dare I say new territory. This series focuses on the world for formula racing. I have a love/hate relationship with new series. The love part is due to new characters and storylines. The hate part, new storyline and new characters. While I may not have loved every book by Sawyer, I have yet to meet a book of hers I didn’t like. I will admit, this new series worried me a bit. When it comes to sports, I’m a contact sport type of girl. You know, basketball, football. Until about ten years ago (after picking up my first hockey romance), I didn’t know much about hockey. Admittedly I still don’t but I can sort of follow what’s going on (again contact sports) and I’ve actually attended a couple of games. Race Car drivers? Yikes! What the hell was I going to do with this series? Well, after finishing this book, I’m going to dive into the rest of this series!

When I say I know nothing about car racing, I mean NOTHING so this wasn’t the easiest book for me to read. Because this is a sport not highly written about there was a lot of background and technical information and admittedly it wasn’t the most interesting information. When Lex says “Gio…mate…let’s dumb that down a bit. You’re making my eyes cross”. I swear that was written just for me. With that being said, I did get through it and am a little more curious. This book seemed to be more narrative than dialogue which was a little different.

Putting aside the technical jargon and racing background info, I enjoyed this first instalment of the new series. Initially I wasn’t sure how I felt about Posey or Lex. I didn’t immediately connect with them, but when it happened, I was all in. I liked their chemistry, and they had some pretty nice witty dialogue. What intrigued me more than anything else in this book, was the supporting characters. Although I’m sure the upcoming books will be about actual drivers. I’m wondering if some these other characters will have books. Characters like, Harley Patrick. Spenser Montgomery, Carlos Moreno, and Maeve Dornan. These characters seem like they might have some pretty juicy storylines. I’m even curious about Lex’s friend Ronan Barnes. I’m pretty sure we haven’t seen the las of him.

All in all, this was decent read.

High octane romance

Review is for ebook/audio

Sawyer Bennett's new series, Race Fever , has adrenaline flowing at a rapid speed with the first installment, FORMULA FLING. From the opening chapter Ms. Bennett delivers all the glitter, drama, action, competitiveness, and romance of Formula One racing, although here it is called Formula International motor racing. Ms. Bennett has done her research, and it shows, this story was captivating, an intense build up to the first race of the season.

Elizabeth 'Posey' Evans is a romance author looking for a change of direction in her writing, previously she had concentrated on historical romances, but as motorsport was becoming more popular among women, she wants to write about FI racing. Posey goes to desperate lengths to research her book pretending to be a reporter, she's given unrestricted access to Crown Velocity Racing and to help her they pair her with their number one driver. Lex Hamilton is in his prime, he's one of the top drivers in his sport, has a playboy reputation, and is on his final chance with Velocity due to his partying ways. The last thing he needs is a reporter following him, one who looks like Posey.

First impressions don't always tell the true story, and it's not long before Posy and Lex are putting aside their preconceived ideas of each other. The chemistry they share is undeniable and their banter is often hilarious. I loved Posey's enthusiasm to learn everything about FI racing, she questioned everything, even when she didn't understand what the experts were talking about, which pleased Lex more than what he thought. I enjoyed the way their relationship evolved; it was a natural growing of mutual respect. When Lex discovers Posey's secret the tension between them begins to sizzle, and it's not long before they begin to fall for each other, then their heat really explodes. They had a wonderful connection, the care and concern they had for one another was heartwarming. Not everything runs smoothly though, especially when Posey's identity is revealed and miscommunication occurs.

Kit Swann and Sean Masters were perfect in their narration of Posey and Lex. Their portrayals were fun, emotional, sexy, and entertaining. Kit was sublime as Posey, she brought out her vulnerability, naivety, and a lightness to her, while Sean superbly delivered the swagger, charm, and passion of Lex's personality. They ensured listening was a pleasurable experience.

FORMULA FLING was a book I couldn't put down. I love F1 racing and Sawyer Bennett excelled with her words. Her research was exemplary, I loved learning about what happens behind the scenes, the intricacies of everything that goes into the lead up to race day, I felt as though I was learning with Posey. The secondary characters were a real mix of personalities, some I loved, others I wanted to punch in the face. This was a great beginning to this new series, and I can't wait for more. Next up is Formula Chance, and I'm looking forward to another adrenaline rush.

Highly recommended.

Fantastic Story & Narration🎧 Amazing New Series!

Formula Fling
Race Fever, Book 1
By: Sawyer Bennett
Narrated by: Sean Masters, Kitt Swan

Wow, what an amazing start to Sawyer Bennett’s “Race Fever” series, a brand new series set in the world of exciting car racing on the Formula International racing circuit. Lex Hamilton, Formula International racer car driver on the Crown Velocity Racing team. He is one of the team’s top racers, but his bad boy behavior is not sitting well with management, so they come up with a solution to keep him in line, having a reporter trail his every move and to show them the ins and out of racing. Posey Evans, an author who lives in the United States, wants to switch writing tropes from historical to sports romance, but she needs to learn more and posing as a journalist not only gets her foot in the door, but she gets to tail one of the top drivers, Lex. He was not happy about it at first, but he knows he needs to stay out of trouble to keep his job, and when she shares her truth, he makes a deal with her so both will benefit from the arrangement management made. I loved watching these two getting to know each other and thought they were great together and for each other. They kept their relationship professional, but there was an undeniable chemistry between them and they could only deny each other for so long before giving in to their desires, and when they do, it was explosive. I adored these two characters and loved watching their relationship morph into something more, something neither was looking for nor expected. I also loved all the layers of this story and how it is all played out, with plenty of drama, witty dialogue and banter, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. As with all of Sawyer Bennett's books, the writing, plot and world building are phenomenal, as are the character growth and development. Thank you for another wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Sean Masters and Kitt Swan were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, and I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Masters’ portrayal of Lex was spot-on, accent and all, grasping every aspect of his personality and demeanor perfectly, from his arrogant bad boy side to his caring side and all in between. Swann was just as amazing in Posey’s role, showcased her personality beautifully, from her insecurities to her determination. Both were fantastic performing the roles of the secondary characters too. You could hear how much heart they put into their performance as they capture all the characters’ emotions and have you feeling them all. These two made a great team, with voices and talent that complemented each other and a performance that elevated the amazing story to another level.

I have fairly high hopes for other books in this series, though this particular one didn't *quite* work for me.

What I enjoyed:
- a new sport! I have read only a few sports romances that feature car racing, but none of them were (loosely, for trademark reasons) based on Formula One racing
- it's set in the author's hockey romances universe (Brienne Norcross has bought a team--she is name dropped here but we don't see her on the page)
- the author's clear enthusiasm for the sport
- the international settings are a fun change of pace

What didn't work as well for me:
- that the FMC thought she could just claim to be a sports reporter and no one would question her/look her up; she'd just be given unfettered access to a multimillion dollar campaign and one of its hottest (in every sense of the word) drivers...I mean, come on...
- overall, there's more "let's do it for the plot" circumstances than usual. Lex moving into Posey's rental with her days after they met, everyone being so cool with Posey's big reveal, how head-whippingly fast Lex went from the sport's biggest playboy to a one-woman man...just a few of the most egregious examples
- in general, Posey just felt like an author stand-in here. Don't get me wrong--I am a big Sawyer Bennett fan and have really enjoyed most of her books that I've read, but she has worked years (her first novel was out in January 2013, so nearly 12 years) to get where she is as an indie author. The FMC is, I'm guessing--early- to mid-twenties? (the MMC's age, 24, is mentioned several times and no one indicates that Posey is considerably older) and she's already getting the same kind of success? It just doesn't feel realistic.
- a little *too* much detail about the business of racing here--it kind of felt like all of the author's research got tossed in here, whether the plot actually needed it or not
- I just couldn't get behind the narrators. Sean Masters' voice is perfectly fine, but he in no way sounds like 24-year-old. And Kit Swann's voice was just too breathy for me--she always sounded like she was on the verge of...I don't know, a panic attack, maybe? Fortunately, I was generously given both a text and an audio ARC version, so I was able to switch. But I'd definitely suggest listening to a sample first before committing to that version if you're at all picky about narration.

As I mentioned in the beginning, I have high hopes for the rest of this series even though this first one wasn't *quite* my cup of tea. I do like the new sport and the setting, though, and the blurbs for the next two sound promising. My review is definitely an anomaly here, so I'm sure this is a case of it's me, not the book--if this book sounds good to you, definitely give it a try!

Rating: 3 stars / C+

4.5stars-FORMULA FLING is the first instalment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult RACE FEVER erotic, romance series focusing on Formula International (F1), a fictionalized version of motorsport racing. This is twenty-four year old race car driver Lex Hamilton, and American romance author Elizabeth ‘Posey’ Evans’ story line.

NOTE: For fans of Sawyer Bennett, there is a slight cross over with the author’s Pittsburgh Titan’s hockey series.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Lex and Posey) FORMULA FLING follows in the wake of the arrival in England, of Elizabeth ‘Posey’ Evans, an American romance author posing as a sports journalist. The Crown Velocity racing team is struggling with Lex Hamilton’s image. With a bad-boy reputation, and the paparazzi photos to prove it, team principal Harley Patrick is desperate to present a united front but Lex appears to be spiraling out of control, and the arrival of Posey Evans is just what the our hero needed. Posey struggles with the lie she is using to cover the truth, a truth that is about to push Posey out of Lex’s life. As our couple’s relationship turns from professional to personal, someone else is waiting in the wings to destroy them both.

The world building is flooded with F1/ motorsport jargon, technical racing language and activity. Posey is up close and personal with the world of F1 racing, including the nightlife that so many use to end their days.

The relationship between Posey and Lex begins as an assignment. Lex is ordered to be on his best behavior, as Posey battles between head and heart knowing her lie of omission will eventually spiral out of control. As Lex slowly loses his heart to our story line heroine, Posey knows her time in England is coming to a close. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and some familiar secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to team owner Spencer Montgomery, fellow drivers Ronan Barnes, and Carlos Moreno; team principal Harley Patrick; communications manager Maeve Dornan as well as several technical members of the Crown Velocity team.

FORMULA FLING is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, jealousy and retribution, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is intriguing, captivating and enticing; the romance is impassioned and provocative; the characters are determined, bold and larger than life.

**Audiobook Review**

It’s official, I’m sold on racing and need more romances with it! “Formula Fling” is a swoony, romantic and action packed Formula International sports romance that was a fantastic start to Sawyer Bennett’s newest series.

Posey Evans is a romance author and is looking to elevate her career to the next level. She’s convinced that there’s a market for Formula International and gets an inside look posing as a reporter to write a freelance story about the sport. And she’s paired up driver, Lex Hamilton, one of the best drivers but also is known as a playboy off the track. He’s on his last strike with his team and the manager feels having Posey will slow down his ways. The two are complete opposites but as they spend time together, it’s clear that they have more in common than originally thought.

I was so excited when this series was announced and I couldn’t wait to start it. The story is fun, action packed and well informed. You can tell that a lot of research was done to truly learn how the racing world works and I was enraptured with it from the start. Posey is someone I loved from the beginning and I could see myself being friends with her in real life. I love that she had found her passion in writing and wanted to expand her career. She was one hundred focused on writing the most accurate romance she could. Lex has all the confidence on and off the track and I was drawn to it just like Posey was. He knows he’s one of the best but is humble about it when with Posey. He knows how serious and dangerous racing can be and makes sure to stay as possible. Posey and Lex are opposites at first but it’s clear that they have a connection. They had great banter and the spicy scenes were so great. I loved the build up to the first race of the season and enjoyed this book. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Sean Masters and Kit Swann narrated this audio and I loved listening to them bring this story to life. Sean’s voice was so smooth and passionate, he was the perfect choice for Lex. And Kit was fabulous as Posey. Her narration was vulnerable and caring just like Posey. I loved these two and I’m looking forward from more from both narrators.

4.5🌟

I am a huge F1 fan, and have been for some time. It stems from my mum, and now I’m the crazy one up in the wee hours of the morning watching this pinnacle car race. In saying that, I was extremely worried that this series might not be factual enough for my anally retentive brain because I watch each practice (FP1, 2 & 3), qualifying (Quali - Q1, Q2 & Q3), shoot out and race. So if you are like me, be rest assured that SB has delivered the facts so well that it flowed seamlessly. There was enough to be precise without any of the overload some books can be. You don’t have to be a fan to want to read this book, although I can guarantee that you’ll want to watch at least one Grand Prix to see how exciting it can be.

Ok, now that I have gotten that off my chest, let’s talk about the story itself. I actually really enjoyed the romance author theme and how Posey was faking being a journalist to get the lowdown on this incredible sport and the life the drivers lead. I also loved that Lex was aware of it from the start and helped her understand the complexities of his job as well as supporting her career as highly as his own. He might have been a player before meeting Posey, but he was smitten from the get go with her. It’s all rather sweet and spicy as we have come to love with a SB novel.

I read romance for a chance to escape the real world and I love nothing more than reading along to a brilliant audiobook as well. The narrators for Posey and Lex were spot on and depicted them so well. They added to the characters and made them real for me. It is in dual narration, although I wish this was duet, so that when Lex is dirty talking to Posey in her chapters, we get to hear his voice which was super sexy and swoony instead of a female trying to sound that way but coming off creepy and douchey instead. Also being an Aussie, and one of the FI drivers coming from this country, the accent was woeful. These are minor issues that no way impacts on the overall experience and enjoyment I had reading this book and I feel will carry on throughout the series. Whether you’re a F1 fan or not, I recommend giving this a go.

Elizabeth "Posey" Evans is a 23 yr old historical romance writer and is looking to change over to more contemporary style romances. Coming up with the idea to write a Formula 1 racing series, Posey gets in contact with Harley Patrick the team principal at Crown Velocity Motorsports pretending to be a sports journalist who wants to write a piece on Formula 1 racing. Luckily at the same time, Crown Velocity's number one driver 24 yr old Lex Hamilton is in hot water again. Seems he got into it with Lord Edward Montgomery at a bar. Thankfully, Spencer Montgomery the team owner is related to Lord Edward and was able to smooth things out. Now that Crown Velocity management has to reel Lex in to try and curb his bad boy ways, Harley comes up with the perfect plan....Have Posey shadow Lex's every move to get a better understanding of the life of a Formula 1 driver.

Of course at first Lex is totally against this but realizes his job could be in jeopardy and reluctantly agrees. In the beginning, Posey is not enamoured with Lex and his ways but over the course of spending so much time with him, feelings begin to change. She realizes that there is more to this playboy than the world actually sees. As their chemistry starts heating up, they finally cross the finish line to get where their bodies both want to be. Just when it looks like Lex and Posey are going to win the race, her secret comes out and everything comes crashing down. It will take a few stealthy moves before these two can find their happy every after.

I just adored this new Formula 1 series from Sawyer Bennett. I loved how Lex was really not what everyone thought. I really enjoyed learning all about Formula 1 racing and was excited to see our favorite hockey owner, Brienne Norcross, bought Excalibur Racing in Guilford. This should make for a fun crossover. I can't wait to see where this series will go and I hope bad boy Ronan Barnes - another Brit racer at Crown Velocity gets his own story too!

This was my first book by Sawyer Bennett, and I'm officially a fan! This F1 romance was a delight. The plot and characters were so charming; I really enjoyed Posey and Lex. I love it when authors make their characters authors too. Lex is the bad playboy of Formula Racing whose job is on the line, and Posey is pretending to be a journalist to get first-hand experience for her next romance novel. Their character development was fantastic, and the plot was adorable. The banter and tension between them were spot-on, my top favorite things in a book.

🎧 Sean Masters and Kitt Swan were absolutely the dream team for bringing these characters to life! They truly made each role their own, sounding so authentic and just as I had envisioned. Sean nailed Lex's character—his accent and depth captured every nuance of Lex’s personality perfectly, from that cheeky bad-boy vibe to his surprisingly tender moments. And Kitt! Wow! She was phenomenal as Posey, brilliantly showcasing the full spectrum of her personality, from her struggles to her fierce determination. What a fantastic performance by both!
