Harbour Bay #1

Not Forgotten

Rate this book
Detective Matt Murphy is assigned the case no one else wants.

The Butcher is a ghost, killing all over Australia for years, and now he’s made the small coastal city of Harbour Bay his hunting ground. Up against a brick wall, Matt has no choice but to contact the only surviving witness—seventeen-year-old Hallie Walker. But Hallie has been in a psychological rehabilitation centre since the double murder five years ago, and Matt needs help.

Gifted psychologist Natalie Miller sees a lot of herself in Hallie and vows to help her heal.

Natalie is no stranger to a violent past, and is usually wary of men. She is stunned by her response to the hot detective, and becomes determined to not only see Hallie released—as she believes the girl has been misdiagnosed—but to help Matt solve this unsolvable case.

Matt and Natalie face danger at every turn, but can’t fight the powerful attraction between them.

Natalie thinks her only problem is a deranged ex-boyfriend, but is it possible she’s attracted the attention of The Butcher? When the serial killer strikes again, they know he’s close, and Matt is frantic to catch him…because now he has more than ever to lose.

Matt races against time to stop the bloody rampage, and Natalie might hold the key to breaking the case. But will they survive with their lives and hearts intact…

And can they save Hallie from the prison of her own mind?

Not Forgotten is book one in the Harbour Bay series by Camille Taylor. Detective Matt Murphy is so frustrated with the progress of a case to catch a serial killer called the Butcher. However, the Butcher did leave a witness alive Hallie and to help her remember Detective Matt Murphy decided to request the assistance of psychologist Natalie Miller to assist. The readers of Not Forgotten will follow Detective Matt Murphy and Natalie Miller to find out if they catch the Butcher who is terrorising the Harbour Bay community.

Not Forgotten is the first book I have read of Camille Taylor and I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the way Camille Taylor portrayed her characters and their interaction with each other throughout this book. Not Forgotten is well written and researched by Camille Taylor. I like the way Camille Taylor describes her settings that allow me to feel part of the background to this book. Camille Taylor did an excellent job of explaining the two plots and how she combined them in the end.

The readers of Not Forgotten will learn about the consequences of mental illness going undiagnosed. Also, the readers of Not Forgotten will start to understand the role that psychologist have in murder cases.

I recommend this book.

I need to start off by saying that I am completely the pickiest when it comes to murder mystery/crime drama stories. This is the genre that is probably nearest and dearest to my heart and it has to be really good for me to even finish the book!

This book, Not Forgotten, didn't disappoint! It was my first set in Australia, but Taylor did a good job telling the story that I bypassed most of the margin I wasn't sure about, and the context filled me in on what it meant! (Some of it I knew just from watching tv of course - many of the same words are used by the English in Doctor Who!) Like calling the car trunk the "boot"... that was one I wasn't so sure about, but it made sense when the author filled it in talking about groceries and putting them in the "boot"... so I was able to picture it and decide that meant the trunk!

My biggest turn off with a crime novel is WHOLE chapters full of fluff (or info dumps). While this novel had them - I didn't find myself skimming them like I normally do, because there is always way more info than the reader truly needs. I found myself lingering on every paragraph because I felt so close to these characters already. Especially the parts where Natalie's memories of her childhood are filled in - I was left feeling heart-broken and hurting over what she had to endure. But those things are what make her the best match for Hallie... and I loved watching the relationship develop between those two.

As well as the budding romance between Natalie and Matt - It wasn't hard to predict what would happen as the book kept going, but I really enjoyed reading myself to those points! I was almost right in every prediction I mentally made - but there was was surprises as well so that was nice!

Over all I really enjoyed this novel and I'm so glad I already have the sequel (Open Wounds) waiting on deck to read!

2.5 stars. Was more intetested in Hallie than our 2 main characters. Didnt mind Matt but found Natalie difficult to care about. I didnt dislike her i was just indifferent. Also the writing style was more tell than show which I think contributed to my lack of interest in Nat & Matt's romance. As the book is 80% romance & 20% hunt the serial killer that meant my overall level of interest was pretty low. I also didnt find he representation of Nat as a psychologist very realistic either.

A Page- Turner

A great plot that kept my interest from beginning to end.
The clues leading up to the climax kept me from putting
the book down. I had to stay up late to finish it. Exciting.
Intriguing. A book for anyone who likes a good murder
mystery.

A truly enjoyable murder mystery

Excellent reading. I love the way the plot unfolded. Making the character truly stand alone then bring them all together in the surprising warm and tender ending

This was okay. I would have liked to see more of Hallie and more detective work and a bit less romance. That being said, this was much better than the previous book I read by this author.

This is a gripping and chilling tale of the hunt for a serial killer, and all the secrets and history leading up to this point. Natalie has her own past to deal with, but she has turned her life around and is now in the Top Ten in her field of psychology. Matt is a Detective who is known for not giving up on a cold case, especially those that deal with women or children. Together, this pair are determined to bring to justice The Butcher who has been killing people for far too long. Finding out who he is and why he is doing it though, is proving exceedingly difficult, so Matt asks Natalie to help with the only victim left alive - a seventeen-year-old girl who has been institutionalised.

This story is thrilling as the plot slowly comes together. Nothing is rushed, not even the relationship between Matt and Natalie which I was very pleased about. Yes, it was instant attraction but they actually dealt with it like adults. Very well-written and with no editing or grammatical errors that I could see, this was a smooth story that held my interest from beginning to end. Definitely recommended for all fans of romantic suspense.

Police detectives falling in love whilst working a case is a rarity but this combined the romantic and suspenseful elements brilliantly for an edge of your seat read.

The Butcher is back preying on women and the only witness and survivor has locked herself away for her own preservation. Matt, lead Detective on the case, needs help from psychologist Natalie to unlock any secrets that only survivor Hallie may have locked away. With the Butcher on the loose, danger is never far away and the next victim around the corner.

Matt and Natalie work well together but neither put finding the Butcher before Hallie's safety. The sparks fly between the two and Natalie feels safe with him. Both are fierce and protective over the people or situations that are important and giving up is not in their vocabulary.

This was a read that I could sink into and let myself just go along for the ride as secrets and pasts are revealed. Spine tingling good but with just the right amount of sweetness mixed in.

With the help of psychologist Natalie Miller, detective Matt Murphy sets out to catch a killer. "The Butcher" is loose in Harbour Bay and there's only one surviving witness - a tough, seventeen-year-old girl named Hallie.
I loved the characters and the way this book just grabbed me right from the start. It's a chilling read, a crime thriller at its best, with superb writing and plot twists. And there's romance too! I'm excited to check out the next in the series!
