That Wicked O'Shea Family #2

If You Wannabe My Marquess

Rate this book
Lady Colleen O’Shea simply cannot stand Lord Benedict Boleran. He is overbearing, he is arrogant, he is opinionated, he is handsome and has lovely eyes and a fine form and...oh dear. But no, she most definitely cannot abide him. And she won’t fall victim to her brother’s marriage machinations and marry the man.

Lord Benedict thinks that Lady Colleen is wild and impetuous and outspoken, and that she could get into trouble standing still in the middle of an open field, if she had half a mind to. She is the last woman whom he should make his marchioness. And yet, he can’t get her out of his mind.

When Colleen ends up stranded at Benedicts house in the middle of a stormy night—unchaperoned—their marriage seems inevitable, if only to prevent a scandal. But Colleen is determined to find a way out of the match.

Although marrying Benedict might not be such a bad thing after all...

An enemies to lovers romance that will make you laugh...and probably shake your head at the heroine. Like, A LOT.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: Steam level – very spicy!

Qucik Review
- If you can believe it, this book had an even more outlandish plot than the previous one. An immature idiot moron meets an ever-patient marquess, plus a few thieves.
- The plot was funny, cute and OTT. The writing was modern, not entirely unexpected of Merry Farmer. Steam was good, so was the chemistry and the romance.
- The hero was nice, and the heroine was daft.

My Recommendation
It's December, work is slow, and I have nothing else to do, plus I just bought a new Kindle, and this series is free on KU. So I am killing 2 hours at a time with these books. Make of it what you will.

I think this was a freebie. An enjoyable read, although Lady Colleen got on my nerves some of the time. She was so irritating. 4☆

Lady Colleen O’Shea despises the arrogant, vexingly handsome Lord Benedict, Marquess of Boleran. She can’t stand being near him for long and has no intention of falling into her brother’s marriage trap with the man.

Benedict sees how impulsive and foolhardy Colleen can be and knows she’s not exactly marchioness material, but he still can’t stop thinking about her.

When Colleen’s insatiable curiosity leads to her spending the night at Benedict’s estate, unchaperoned, their marriage becomes necessary to ward off scandal. Nevertheless, Colleen is sure she can find a way to avoid the unwanted marriage, even if she is beginning to warm to the idea of Benedict as a husband.

This book was something else. It’s definitely an enemies to lovers romp with one of the most air-headed heroines I’ve ever read. The hero had done nothing I could find to warrant her loathing and ill-treatment of him. She merely started arguments with him because she’d made being argumentative for the sake of it part of her character as others saw her. She did at least realize when she’d taken her slander too far but that didn’t stop her from rushing right back up to that line later on. I couldn’t like her, even when she realized her feelings for Benedict were of love rather than hate. She was a bit too over the top for me and the poor hero either had the patience of a saint or was an utter fool. Otherwise, this was a pleasant romp to escape reality with.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

“If You Wanna Be My Marquess” is the scond the series that tells of the Wicked O’Shea Family more specifically the sisters. I have grown to love Merry Farmer as an author and this novella did not disappoint with bringing me an enjoyable read. I enjoyed the first in this series and the entertaining sisters. This is the story of Colleen O'Shea who says she does not like the Lord Benedict Boleran. Although she finds him overbearing and arrogant....underneath she has a growing attraction and finds him to be a handsome gentleman.

I loved again the characters, the entertainment they bring to the story and the HEA. Next is Lady Cloe O'Shea...hmm what is she going to bring to her story.

Wonderfully wicked enemies to lovers story with Lady Colleen O’Shea, a lady with very forward ideas for her time, and Lord Benedict Boleran, who is starting to like those ideas, a lot. Loved these characters - Colleen is often her own worse enemy, but you can see her intelligence in everything she does and Benedict is amazing, especially when his open-mindedness is revealed. Couldn't put it down. Highly recommend.

I also got this ebook with KU.

I had some problems with the author giving very recently developed modern social values to her characters who lived over a hundred and twenty years ago.

The Delightful O'Shea sisters and this time up is Colleen! Now that their brother Fergus had gotten one of the four sisters married off, he has Colleen in his sights, but who would it be she married?

Lord Benedict Boleran might just be that man. But his thoughts on here were... "She amused him and she horrified him. Her antics made him smile and made him frown. She was a scandal waiting to happen, but he was eager to watch that scandal play out. And she was beautiful. There was no denying that." Little did he know that scandal was to be him!

In a move that brought these two together, it seems they may end wed pretty quickly.. Or would they? Dragons, treasure, villains and an insatiable curiosity on the part of Colleen just might be the death of Benedict, or she just might bring him to his knees!!

Colleen and Benedict area a fun, cute couple in Merry Farmer's If You Wanna Be My Marquess. Colleen isn't too fond of Lord Benedict. He's arrogant, smug and she is way too attracted to him for her own good. She usually ends up railing about how much she dislikes him whenever she is in his vicinity, but she, Benedict and her sisters know she actually likes him a lot.

Benedict lost his wife and child in childbirth about a year ago. He's beginning to think it might be time to remarry. At first glance, Colleen isn't high on his list, but he's attracted to her and when she puts herself in a compromising position with him (and takes him in hand, literally) who is he to argue? He's as attracted to her as she is to him.

But Colleen will do almost anything to fight the marriage that Fergus has forced, even though she and Benedict really do want each other. Colleen's hair-brained, funny schemes will make readers chuckle. This book is steamy and very well written. Colleen and Benedict's story is a joy to read and so sexy.

Fun read. Colleen is a hoyden and I liked that about her. She needed a man who would embrace her spirit and she found that in Benedict. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series, about her sister.

“If You Wanna Be My Marquess” is the second book in the That Wicked O’Shea Family series from Merry Farmer. You definitely need not have read the first one in order to enjoy this one, although I can tell you that the first book in the series was also excellent. This author has a talent for combining wonderful characters along with things that are funny, serious, passionate and entertaining. The results are easy-to-read stories that keep you smiling and turning the pages.

This story features Colleen O'Shea is the 2nd oldest of the 4 unconventional sisters. She is smart and imaginative one, enjoys reading gothic novels, lodes the very idea of the restriction placed on women within marriage, and is fiercely determined to remain independent. Widower Lord Benedict Boleran agitates her simply by his existence. He is a neighbor, friend to her brother and her cousin, and too handsome for her own good. Colleen is sure he’s a boring, close-minded beast. She ends up overhearing a conversation between Lord Boleran and her cousin and is confused by it. How confusion turns to outrage when Benedict refuses (justifiably) to tell her details about it.

Benedict turns out to be none of the terrible things she thought of him – In fact, he’s actually the furthest thing possible from being close-minded. Colleen matures, Benedict gets to experience love, and Colleen’s brother Fergus successfully and sneakily helps one more sister find a husband. This story contains dragons, pirate treasure, nefarious robbers, a meddling old woman, intimate explorations, great secondary characters and lots of spying. It’s really a delightful escape into a few hours of pure (and not so pure) entertainment.

I like Merry Farmer as a writer, but this is not one of her better heroines. Some of the humor worked here, but Colleen was such an immature, thoughtless loud mouth I just couldn't like her. I know most of what she said and did was supposed to be for laughs, but I couldn't discern any underlying intelligence behind her bluster. Her stubborn mindset that the hero, Benedict, was a complete jerk made her seem much more closed-minded and condescending than she accused him of being. There is no real explanation as to why she dislikes him so much (he comes across as being staid and grumpy at times. Umm, maybe because he lost his wife and child in childbirth?).
Benedict was really quite likable, and there was enough steam and scenes told from his POV to keep me reading, but I almost gave up.

Honestly, Colleen is the kind of woman who would have given early feminists a bad name. For example, she gets herself caught in a compromising position with Benedict--the sexual details of which of course she blurts out to her family--then is so desperate not to marry him that she wants to pin a string of robberies on him. When she gets caught in his house for the second time, she makes ridiculously hurtful comments, accusing him of killing his wife (!). Yes, she apologizes, but why would any rational person make a comment like that in the first place? I have no idea why Benedict put up with her. Signs of maturity she starts to show later in the story just didn't endear me to her.

I would read another book in this series with this hero in it, but not this heroine.

Note: this is not a "sweet and clean" book. There is PG-rated language and some spicy sex scenes.

Awful Heroine

The heroine in this book was such a piece of work. I didn’t like her at all. We often (too often) see historical heroines who crave independence and don’t want to marry because they want to be free. (These independence-loving heroines are becoming such a major trope in historical romance. As a devoted historical romance reader, this drives me a little crazy! While that may have happened to some extent back in the day, it certainly is not as common as romance authors would have us believe!) While I am not wild about that being one of the heroine’s issues, this heroine actually came across as stupid and reckless as well. She was impulsive, brash, and childlike in her wilfulness. She was an over-curious busybody. She would disagree with anything anyone said (especially the hero) just because she always disagreed with others… she actually admitted to that late in the book! She continually got herself into trouble throughout the book because of her impulsiveness and curiosity. I wonder how she survived to the age she was supposed to be. She would also concoct wild mental schemes that had no basis in reality. Yet she fervently believed tales spun only in her mind, causing her to be rude and insulting. Just not heroine material in my book. I don’t see how the hero could have seen such potential in her when all she acted like was a spoiled brat. Perhaps he was only thinking with a certain part of his anatomy; the heroine was over-curious about that as well… but the hero didn’t mind encouraging that. Ugh. Not recommended.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Merry Farmer’s “If You Wannabe My Marquess” (That Wicked O'Shea Family Book 2) is a well written, delightful and fun lighthearted tale.

Lady Colleen O'Shea is the 2nd oldest of the 4 O’Shea sisters. Their brother Fergus is wants to find husbands for the sisters, 1 down and 3 to go except Colleen is is a forward thinking woman for her time. She’s strong willed, sassy, imaginative, opinionated
and beautiful. And she can’t stand Lord Benedict Boleran thinking him opinionated, arrogant and grumpy. And yet she can’t help but be attracted to him in a way she’s never been with anyone before but she’s determined not to marry and especially not to marry Benedict.

Benedict it’s nothing like she has assumed him to be, quite the opposite in fact. He’s a widower who lost his wife and child and childbirth. He’s a patient and good man but he sees how prone Colleen is to antics and though he attracted to the beautiful young woman he see how exasperating she can be.

Great characters even though I didn’t warm to Colleen for quite awhile. I told myself she was afraid of marriage and her attraction to Benedict. I found him to be intrigued by her zeal as well as her beauty. I enjoyed the witty banter back-and-forth between the main characters. This is an engaging, fast paced story with an interesting storyline and bit of mystery. I did enjoy Colleen’s transformation and watching these two figure it out. Their chemistry was sizzling in this delightful and steamy romance and there are lots of laughs. I enjoyed it thoroughly!

Thank you Ms. Farmer for this lighthearted and entertaining love story.

This is the second book of Ms. Farmer's delightful new That Wicked O'Shea Family series. I've read and absolutely loved the first book and was excited when this was ready for review. I was not disappointed! This book combines humor, fun, passion, and romance into one delightful package. Couldn't stop smiling as I was reading this. This is Colleen's story, the second of the O'Shea siblings. She is a carefree, independent lady with an great imagination and is determined not be beld back by the restraints of marriage. She especially can't stand the arrogant Lord Benedict, but is undeniably attracted to him. Lord Benedict sees her as a wild child but is equally as attracted to her. Colleen's curiosity gets the better of her, and as a consequence ends up spending the night in his home, unchaperoned. In order to squelch any scandal that may arise, the best course of action would be to marry. But Colleen is determined to find a way out. Oh, what a fun time I had reading this! The banter between the two was witty and hilarious and you could feel the chemistry between them, just jumping off the pages. A wonderfully delightful addition to the series. Can't wait to read the next one!

Book Two, the madcap sister, mischief planner. This is just a laugh out loud, fun, mischievous escapade. I could not put this down, I had it finished in a few hours.

Colleen O'Shea is the second oldest of the four, the imaginative one, mischief planner, and gothic novel reader/lover. To her men are only good for hard labor and making rules for progressive women to break.

She has a love/hate relationship in regards to Lord Benedict Boleran. To her he is dull, boring, a brute, and stifles women's rights. He is also a neighbor, her brother's friend, and a handsome widower. His wife and son died in childbirth.

Upon overhearing a conversation between Lord Boleran and her cousin, Cailean O’Shea, Viscount Dervock, Colleen Marcus in to demand answers which he will not give. How dare he do that. She wants to know and will have her answers one way or another.

Dragons, pirate treasure, highwaymen, and nocturnal spying abound. Follow Colleen as she steps into her own trap due to her shenanigans. This very creative, madcap folly has it all adventure, intrigue, witty repertoire, thieves after "treasure", and a spanking followed by kissing.

This laugh out loud read is just what I needed at a difficult time, what a fun, entertaining read. I adored Colleen whose mouth ran away with her, I can just imagine her as a cantankerous grandmother, she was priceless & yes I did shake my head at her several times. The banter between Benedict & Colleen was soo good they certainly knew how to wind each other up. The chemistry between the pair was electric too. It you’re looking for a book to brighten your day, look no further

I adored this steamy enemy to lovers romp with its dragon and pirate's treasure! Colleen is a bit rash and she lets her imagination get the better of her, though during the story she reveals that she knows this and that really made the character all that much more fun and interesting for me. I adored how that worked out in the end, and that she found someone that understands her. Benedict is an amazing character, he'd be stogy except that Colleen allows him to let the part of himself out that is fun and dramatic. They're just so *necessary* to each other and balance each other out perfectly.

Also all the kudos for the secondary plot with the valet and footman, I adored them ;-)

One thing I'm enjoying immensely in this series is the bikes each sister has, and this book really showcases how much freedom and agency the bikes give them. I loved Colleen being able to pedal about, even when it wasn't extremely prudent!

The narrator for this book is perfect and gave a flawless performance.

Highly recommended for historical romance fans! I can hardly wait for the next! :-)

I received an ARC. This is another story of The O’Shea sisters. This time, Colleen is the focus. Although I enjoyed the overall story, I was not a fan of Colleen at all. She was mean and thoughtless and I can’t quite figure out why Benedict, who seemed to be a thoroughly decent guy, would tolerate the things she said to him. That being said, I liked Benedict, and the plot to trap the thieves was entertaining. Merry Farmer writes entertaining books and makes even the shorter ones (this is not a long book) feel like a real, thought out effort with a complete plot and developed characters. Unfortunately, Colleen developed into a really unpleasant piece of work. Marie (last book) was nicer, so I have every hope that the remaining sisters will be decent human beings also, and look forward to their turns in the upcoming books.

Not a clean book (nothing weird, just descriptions of sex), if that’s what you’re after, pass on this one.

I Loved It! It's the second in the series That Wicked O'Shea Family, If You Wannabe My Marquess will hold you captivated in this hilarious madcap romp as Benedict finds his feisty soon to be bride who is amusing, in the middle of mad-capped plan and a scandal waiting to happen. Colleen is doing what she must to avoid her brother's crafty plot to see her and her sisters married and no way will she marry that overbearing, haunty, opinionated rogue...who has blue eyes, tall with broad shoulders, handsome and lips made for kissing no wait what is she thinking! Merry Farmer weaves a story from beginning to end with threads with the meaning of family love, absurd schemes, and sizzling passion. It's well-written, filled it with superb cast of characters that come to life as you find yourself drawn into their story, clever and witty banters between the different protagonis which will leave you laughing out loud wondering what will happen next.

The O’Shea sisters are a handful and their brother, Fergus is determined to get all four of them married and become someone else’s problem. At this point, it is one down and three to go and Colleen seems to be well on her way to be the next one married. Because of her vivid imagination and ability to get herself deep into trouble, she finds herself spending the night at the home of Lord Benedict Boleran which seals her fate to marry. I enjoyed the story in that Colleen is intelligent, resourceful and has the unfortunate ability to say things before she thinks which can add to her problems. I loved Benedict’s character because he accepts her for the intelligent woman that she is and is happy to marry her. There is a lot more going on in this book, namely a gang of robbers that are terrorizing the countryside. This is a light hearted and easy to read story that I think you will enjoy.

I just love the O'Shea stories, they are well set, in good taste and still have you thinking of the lot woman were cast to and still has to overcome in this enlightened world we claim to have now.

Woman are still being seen as "less than" in a great big world.

In the era where women should no longer have to stand back and let men do what they think is right for us, is a shame. I was overlooked for 4 position where I not only had the practical experience, the best scholarly knowledge and knew the customers and suppliers. I was told blatantly that I was in "a Holding Pattern" while there I earned less than an Executive Secretary, it was expected of me to train the people who were appointed and I still had to do the work I was actually employed to do.

It's a sin that this is not the only such story that you shall hear, in our great EQUAL OPPORTUNITY WORLD!

In this second book of the series we come back to Colleen, who has been at loggerheads with Lord Benedict Boleran for years. She considers him a boor, he considers her wild and impetuous. A recipe for sparks and, in this series, some definitely saucy moments but, in the words of Kenny Everett, all in the best possible taste.
As with the previous book this is a fun read, whilst at the same time looking at how women were treated at the end of the 19th Century and how this was changing. Add some intrigue with a local gang of thieves to add some excitement to the romance and I really enjoyed this book and am again really looking forward to the next in the series, the seeds for the story have already been sown.
I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however this did not influence my review of the book.

She got it all wrong

Colleen hates Benedict her neighbor and a Marquess! She doesn't really know him but she dislikes him for forcing his sister to wed (earlier book) and ant number of things she conjures up in her vivid imagination! Benedict lost his first wife and child due to a complication which resulted in their death! Colleen is somewhat more sturdy and buxom then his previous wife was and she's beautiful, nosey and has a zest for life!
When all of Colleen efforts to prove Benedict is this awful man get them engaged well she's not about to give up her independence! All of her efforts turn into steam to fig glasses!
There is a duplicitous gang terrorizing the area and Colleen has just the hare brained umm (genius) scheme to put a stop to it! No thinks it will work but if it does than these two certainly deserve their HEA!

Beautiful headstrong Colleen just can't handle Benedict and boy does she show it. Nevermind he's quite handsome. She finds him very arrogant. Suspecting Benedict of neferious doings she sets out to bring the truth to light. She never realized she would cause a scandal, well, unless she marries Benedict. How awful will that be or will it. Colleen was a hoot in her antics. She definitely holds nothing back. Benedict finds her interesting and lively. The two together was fun and sexy. Did I mention Colleen is still committed to finding the truth to something nefarious. This is the second in the series and wild you can read on it's own I highly recommend reading the first book. I promise you will not regret. I loved this book and I know you will too.

Colleen & Benedict's story--the Lady protests too much! Such fun! Lady Colleen O'Shea just may be the next sister to get scandalized into marriage, and with that awful, arrogant, handsome, Lord Boleran. Why does he vex her so? She is a bit of a free-spirit and natural investigator and she just may prove he is the cad and rake she believes him to be, and uncover his secrets too. Perhaps if she uncovers the truth of his villainy she get remove the stain of him from her life forever. Colleen is willing to do whatever it takes to discover the it and is quite spunky. Thank you brother Fergus for the bicycle that allows her to go get into trouble. Well written and a standalone that was fun, amusing, and had heat! I enjoyed their story a lot!

Is the lady chasing a dragon treasure?

Steamy romance; sex takes place after practical betrothal. Colleen gets caught while Chloe gets away and is picked up by Lady Coil. Benedict takes Colleen to her family. Fergus, her brother, betroths her to Benedict. But Colleen can't stay away and sneaks over to Benedict's house yet again. Benedict lets Colleen set a trap for the Murphy gang, more because he wants her near. She succeeds, but Benedict has to rescue her. They also get their family started. Colleen sets up Chloe with the Duke of Blackburn for the next book.

Guess what there is a dragon too?
Merry Farmer always brings such colorful characters to life but this was extra great. Colleen our Irish lass was splendid. Everything is a bit over the top with her you could call her a drama queen but that really does not describe her. Benedict has his hands full with Colleen and the back and forth between them was very entertaining. The last two chapters had lots of action! For such a quick read it had it all in spades! High praise for this charmer and yes that I am happy to recommend this book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it

Me thinks the lady doth protest too much! This series is such a hoot, and this book is no exception. Colleen has made assumptions about Benedict that have caused her to actively dislike him. In her typical ‘bull in the china closet’ way, she finds herself in a compromising position with him. Although he thinks she’s a wild child, he finds that he is truly drawn to her. One thing is for sure, life won’t be dull for either of them. Add to that the mystery of the Murphy gang and you have a madcap romp. This is a fast paced, clever, laugh-out-loud story that just shouldn't be missed.
