Mythology from the Rock

Rate this book
For thousands of years, myths and legends have shaped the stories that humanity tells about themselves and the world around them. Now, twenty-six incredible Canadian authors offer new spins and fresh takes on those pieces of our shared cultural touchstones.

This collection honours that legacy with twenty-nine short stories highlighting the best of the modern interpretations of Mythology, from minds like Ali House (The Segment Delta Archives), AJ Ryan (The Secret of the Ohks), and Jennifer Shelby (Plague of the Dreamless)! With introduction from Dr. Christopher Lockett!

Full disclosure, I have a story in this collection.

I took this book with me for a holiday in Greece and it was such fitting reading material. The stories are so varied from original mythologies to stories based on a number of different mythologies. The authors have such different styles, from urban fantasy to literary, which gives a wonderful mix to the anthology. If you are new to Newfoundland and Labrador and Atlantic Canadian fantasy, this is a good introduction to local fantasy. If you have been reading Atlantic Canadian fantasy for a while, you'll find many favourites and hopefully a few new favourite authors!

Some excellent stories in here. Definitely a mixed bag.

Some of my favourites were "Clay" by K. A. Mielke and "Silvern Voices" by Andrew Hawthorn.

If you like mythology, you'll like this book. If you don't, you probably won't. Its eclecticism is its charm.
