In this charming tenth book of the Good Dog series, Bo plays in the mud with his pig friend!
Bo and his pig pal Zonks always have fun with each other. They can talk and roll in the mud all day long! Bo and Zonks agree they have a special connection. But does that mean they’ve got to be each other’s best friend?
With easy-to-read language and illustrations on almost every page, the Good Dog chapter books are perfect for emerging readers.
Read aloud. We've really enjoyed this series over the years as our second favorite early reader chapter book series after Sophie Mouse. Bo, our main character farm puppy, is usually funny and kind, but in this installment he hurts a friend's feelings and needs to learn empathy, take responsibility for his actions, and practice being a good listener. The story is simple and my kids could very easily identify that Bo wasn't being a good friend, even if he was well-intentioned. His selfishness is often mirrored by young kids (and heck, even adults) who want to solve a problem their way instead of trying to understand another person's perspective first. Its not actually a super deep book, but I love how this series is trying able to be a mirror for kids in real life situations, similar to Sophie Mouse.
I liked how it didn't solve the problem right away. It felt more realistic to be confused about how his friend was feeling and then to learn how to resolve things.
We’ve enjoyed reading the Good Dog series aloud as a family. This one was one of my favorites because it was easy for my kids to grasp the lessons on friendship, empathy, and forgiveness.
This one was great! I love the little lessons sprinkled in these books, and my boys (5 and 3) enjoy listening to them. They kind of remind me of a black-and-white Mercy Watson (well, not as funny as Mercy but just as enjoyable).
