I was listening to the audiobook while reading along on my kindle and in the audiobook the mixed race FMC’s hair is constantly referred to as “crazy” “wild” & “untameable” in this 2022/2023 a white author thought it was ok to write about a hair type she doesn’t have in a negative light!

Since I was also following along on my kindle I can see these words have been removed from the ebook but I don’t feel comfortable reading and supporting an author that would even think that was ok to begin with.

This book might be as phenomenal as you all say it is but I refuse to support this author

Black girlies AVOID. Go blow up A E Valdez books instead

Same

Rayshon I removed this series from my TBR when I heard red flags about this author on Tiktok. It also baffles me the amount of black women still plugging this book 🤯

KiKi White authors who can’t write Black characters need to stick to the rivers and lakes that they’re used to! Leave us ALONE

Annette Williams It's really disheartening that black readers support this woman in the first place. It's bad enough she has the unmitigated audacity to write about black characters in the first place but, she won't even refer to them as black. And, the fact that some of y'all are okay with this and will continue to support and read her books has me SMDH.

Simone apparently the characters were originally white then changed it was too confusing blue green eyes freckles then I saw light brown skin

Justavoraciousreader As a mental health professional, I can testify that the FMC (Biracial POC) feelings plague a lot of women, particularly black women. Sad but true.

Raddierae I was enjoying it but I’m stopping it now! Thanks

Hippiblossom I'm not black and I whole-heartedly agree. It was not always clear to me that the characters are in fact black, and to me that's problematic. I hated how Stevie's hair was described also as well as other negative descriptions. Her body image issues were annoying and not embracing or empowering as I've known many black women to be. So many parts of the book were cliche.

Theresa V I loved it. Let’s normalize having poc in books that doesn’t only focus on race.

Theresa V Also people want diversity in books but complain it’s done done accurately . Can’t win

Azeezat Oge I just realised that , I thought they were trying to say her hair is wild and trying to say how she’s different but I realised it’s just beauty standards.

Bre’Niyah 🫶🏾 can i still read it?

Theo Gonzalez I just know Theresa is white

Blake O’Dea Stop the glaze Theresa, the representation was done horribly, like i thought Zander was white for 80% of the book
