On February 12, 2025, a delegation led by Professor Suhas Joshi, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore), paid a courtesy visit to Hiroshima University's Higashi-Hiroshima Campus and held discussions with HU President Mitsuo Ochi. The meeting was also attended by Vice President Kazuhiko Koike (International Exchange/Japanese Language Education) and Dean Naoto Chatani of the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering.
During the meeting, participants exchanged views on the possibility of expanding future exchanges and cooperation between the two universities, including joint research projects and exchanges between faculty members and students.
The visit also included a tour of the Research Institute for Semiconductor Engineering, Research Institute for Synchrotron Radiation Science, and Digital Monozukuri (Manufacturing) Education and Research Center, as well as meetings with faculty members and lab tours of the Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life and Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering.
IIT Indore is one of the eight Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) that the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now the Ministry of Education) announced to be established in 2008, and is also designated as an Institute of National Importance in India.
In his remarks, President Ochi said, “We are keen to welcome more talented students and researchers from India, as we have excellent research and education facilities,” expressing his high expectations for the future.
HU has 25 inter-university international exchange agreements and 15 inter-faculty international exchange agreements with Indian universities and institutions. Currently, 27 students from India are studying at HU.
We hope that this courtesy visit will strengthen the ties between HU and India in terms of student exchange, education, and research.
