Revolutionary fervor, self-sacrifice and breath-taking heroism had to fight against crushing odds: the immense numerical superiority of the enemy, as well as certain instance of cowardice, dastardliness and even infamous treason. The TV series examine the personal experience of the leaders of the uprising, its heroes and martyrs (very successfully impersonated by a cast of young actors) against a background of fearsome upheavals and in the face of moments of greatness and downfalls, triumphs and defeats.

Velinsky has a prototype for the chief of police from the Kingdom of Bulgaria, Nikolai Geshev. He was a young and breakthrough police officer, later elevated to the head of the secret service of the kingdom, and after September 9, 1944, became an agent of American intelligence. Velinski is calculating, with a cool and witty mind. He refrains from being too cruel to the Communists.
