- A landlady suspects that her new lodger is the madman killing women in London.

- In a Swiss winter resort, Lydia Boysen, who has just divorced from her husband, meets the young ski instructor Dagfin Holberg. It doesn't take long before they both fall in love with each other. One day her ex-husband Axel shows up, not long after he had tried to set Lydia up with the much older, rich Turkish man Sabi Bey. A little later, Alex Boysen is found lying dead in the snow. Dagfin and Lydia suspect each other of killing Boysen. To protect Lydia, Dagfin takes all the blame. Not entirely unselfish, he receives full support in his actions from Sabi Bey, who also promises to help Dagfin escape. The Turkish general hopes to get closer to his goal in this way and finally win Lydia over. Lydia, in turn, is ready to sacrifice herself for Dagfin. In order to be sure of Sabi Bey's support for the fugitive Dagfin, she follows the Muslim despot, who was once responsible for a massacre of Armenians and only narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, to his castle in southern Germany. As luck would have it, Dagfin has gone into hiding right next door, on Colonel von Gain's neighboring estate. Meanwhile, Tilly, the colonel's daughter, has fallen head over heels in love with the reclusive permanent guest. Sabi Bey gradually realizes that he won't let Lydia down in the future and swallows poison out of desperation. Dying, he confesses that he killed Axel Boysen in self-defense as Boysen was blackmailing him. Lydia and Dagfin can now look into the future together.
- The "people among us" are Berlin building tenants, a cross section of late 20s society.Among them: a government assessor and his wife,who gives birth while in prison, and a flighty landlady who is swindled by a diamond seller.
- A young man happens to have the same name as a famous steeplechase jockey, and when he finds out that people keep mistaking him for the jockey (although he's never been on a horse in his life and is actually terrified of them), he plays along with it, even going so far as to wear the same kind of racing togs that the real jockey wears. Eventually things get out of hand, and before he knows it he's forced to substitute in a race for the real jockey--and finds out that the horse he's supposed to ride is a ferocious beast called Hottentot.
- A young engineer lies to protect his fiancée, and is later convicted of perjury (after which his fiancée abandons him) and sent to prison. When he gets get, he tries to return to his former life and finds out that's easier said than done--no one wants to hire an ex-con, and when he finds himself broke and homeless, he is "saved" by a local prostitute, and discovers that his only real friends are the people that society deems to be the "lower classes" and "criminals". Just when he is starting to work his way back to "respectability", a situation arises in which he must risk everything he's worked for in order to help out the people who've helped him.
- Sensational adventures of a young lady with her baby, born out of wedlock. Marrying the father, she discovers his worthlessness. George Barry, returning after two years' absence , finds that Marie, the daughter of wealthy parents, whom he still loves, is a mother. The father of the child, Serge Ricard, is a loafer , and though he makes no effort to do his duty towards Marie, she goes to him. Through a friend a post is offered him in the Argentine, on condition the couple marry. The benefactor is really the faithful George. The liner is wrecked, Serge perishes , but Marie is saved. Believing her child to be drowned, she loses her reason. The little one, however, has been rescued by some Chinese jugglers. George, as guardian angel, brings happiness. A considerable variety of settings are presented, including the beautiful home of Marie's parents, scenes on the liner, and realistic hospital interiors. The Decorative Arts Exhibition and the performance by Chinese jugglers are outstanding features.
- Jenny works in the kitchen of a luxurious hotel and is in love with Jean, the charming headwaiter. But the latter has his eyes on Lola, the hotel dancer, who is kept by a senile millionaire. Jenny manages to get Jean to come see her and stupidly steals a champagne bottle for the occasion. When someone rats her out, she escapes through the corridors aimlessly and ends up in the dining room where, through the whim of a rich foreigner, she has to perform a comedy act for the crowd. It is an instant success and brings her fortune. Jean will soon realize that he loved her all along.
