The adventures of U.S. Marshal Karen Sisco in Miami.

Emma Brody is a young, single all-American woman who leaves behind her dysfunctional family in Toledo, Ohio to take a job as the vice consul at the US Embassy in London, England.

The show follows a young single mother raising two high school-age boys in Los Angeles while juggling multiple minimum-wage jobs. Masterson's character is stiffed on a paycheck and subsequently referred to a local nonprofit advocacy center for help in making her employer pay up. Intrigued by the agency's cases, she winds up with a job as a case worker for them.

Karen has trouble writing her report on the apprehension of a fugitive for several reasons: A) a sore chest from a gunshot to her Kevlar vest; B) subsequent memory loss surrounding the events of that night; C) an overeager partner; D) a dead fugitive. Even an attempt to enjoy her medical leave goes sour when the FBI inform her that the friendly charter fisherman she's dating might also be a bank robber. But with help from her father, a P.I. working a possible insurance scam, and a mysterious new marshal in town, Karen may yet recover her memory and get her man.

Karen's fling with a Florida Marlins pitcher takes a backseat to a real star-crossed romance when she pursues a prisoner, who keeps escaping to see his one true love, a stripper longing for a new life. Complications ensue when his best friend gets her involved with the Russian mob.

Karen finds herself in the middle of a bank robbery.

With only six months to go on their prison term, the not-too bright Salchek brothers are duped into escaping from jail, and stealing a baseball worth millions from mob boss Charlie Lucre. Then they'll finally be able to buy a double-wide trailer for their loving mother. Having caught them once before, Karen must race against Lucre, his hit men, and an overzealous FBI agent to find them and put them back behind bars.

A friend of the Sisco family passes away.

A reluctant Karen partners with Konner, a US Marshal who goes by his own rules, to find three parolees on the run. But Karen is unaware that the ex-cons are running from Konner--who plans to mete out his own deadly brand of justice.

Karen helps an 11 year old girl.

Karen gets a second chance to bring in a fugitive accountant on the lam for murder and grand theft while Marshall takes on an attractive new client who wants her husband investigated for adultery.

While working with treasury agents Karen busts a counterfeiter who remembers her from high school. Karen is ordered to protect him until he can testify.

A smooth-talking con man catches a lucky break, allowing him to escape right under Karen's nose. Determined to bring him back, Karen must first contend with an old FBI adversary, a former FBI boyfriend (who's still married), and an ex-mob accountant inexplicably out of hiding from the Witness Protection Program.
