- Guests at a luxury hotel are horrified when they witness a man literally "disappear into thin air." The vanished man's relatives hire a detective, who goes to the hotel to investigate the disappearance.
- On trial for the murder of Carl Hummel, Eddie Williams tells his story, which begins just before the World War: Eddie, a Broadway star, marries Helen and almost immediately goes to the front. Gassed while saving the life of a German soldier (Hummel), Eddie cannot find work when he returns. Helen finds a job, and Eddie grows more despondent. One day he finds Helen in Hummel's arms, and in his rage Eddie shoots the man. The trial proceeds with the revelation by Defense Attorney Burke, Eddie's wartime commander, of Helen's secret: she pretended to be single so as to get work; Hummel, who was searching for Eddie, really loved Helen and was ignorant of her relationship with Eddie. The jury finds Eddie not guilty.
- San Francisco newspaper reporter Jimmy Gray turns detective to bring the killer of the brother of his sweetheart, Ellen Garwood, to justice. His city editor is so confident that he will that he 'holds the presses", and then puts a stuttering man on the re-write-desk telephone.
- A remake of 1930's "Phantom of the Desert", in which a crooked foreman and the ranch hands are rustling horses, and laying the blame on a wild stallion that roams the surrounding hills.In this one the principals are Jim/Cheyenne(Rex Lease) as the cowhand that comes along and clears the horse,Starlight;the crooked foreman is Clyde Winslow(Harry Woods), while Helen Sutter(Dorothy Gulliver) is the daughter of ranch owner Frank Sutter(Jay Hunt.) This one was remade at least four more times by 1940.
- A power company floods a sleepy Tennessee Valley for a dam to run a hydraulic power plant. Garry, a Northern engineer on the project, falls in love with Caroline, Colonel Bradford's adopted daughter. The colonel's nephew, Jack Bradford, uses his power of attorney to sell a valuable portion of the colonel's estate to Morton, head of the power project. The colonel confronts Jack and is killed in the struggle. When Garry finds the body and Jack accuses him of the murder, he escapes, but is pursued by bloodhounds. Jack witnesses Garry retrieving the deed of sale from Morton and blows up the dam to prevent him from returning. The waters sweep Jack away and trap Caroline in a cave. Garry rescues her and the two become engaged.
- John Moore (Reed Howes), a young sea captain has a romance with Kay Wheeler (Molly O'Day), daughter of a trusted trader, "Pop" Wheeler (A.S. 'Pop' Byron), on a Pacific island. He also acquire the enmity of "Shanghai" Morgan (Wheeler Oakman), a notorious sea captain who shanghais his crew and his women. Back in San Francisco, Morgan seduces and kidnaps Moore's sister, Mary (June Marlowe),who escapes but dies from the shock. Moore sails out for revenge and follows Morgan to his sweetheart's island.
- The U.S. Air Patrol is fighting alien-smuggling along the USA-Mexico border, and U.S. Army Air Corps buddies Jerry Doyle and Andy Conroy are among the pilots on this assignment. One of them is shot down by the smuggling-gang, and the other goes after the gang with vengeance.
- Stern district attorney John Raymond sentences innocent June Lawrence to prison along with her guilty husband Dan. After she dies in prison, her brother, reporter Jerry Heath, vows revenge. He gets his opportunity when he is sent to cover a police raid. His photographer takes a picture of Raymond's daughter Kay dancing on a table in her underwear. Jerry saves her from the raid in order to get her exclusive story for his paper. The next day, Raymond is furious with Kay for embarrassing him in that way. Dan, who has been released from prison, steals the incriminating photograph and uses it to blackmail Kay. She assumes that Jerry is involved in the scheme and will not listen to his explanations. When Dan is murdered, Jerry finds one of Kay's gloves next to the body and, assuming she is guilty, offers no defense when he is arrested for the crime. He is sentenced to death until Kay goes to her father with the truth. Raymond intervenes, the police arrest Shorty Gray, who confesses to the crime, and Jerry is released from prison to find Kay waiting for him.
