Rock n' Roll Cop (1994) was a hard edge action film directed by the ever reliable Kirk Wong. Anthony Wong Chau Sang stars as the aforementioned Character, a hip laid back cop who heads his branch of the O.C.T.B. During a violent shoot-out between the H.K.P.D. and a gang of mainland criminals, Wong's prized possession (Deep Purple's Live in Osaka L.P.) is destroyed is a fierce gun battle. After the dust settles, Wong is assigned to assist a mainland officer in apprehending the criminals and sending them back to China. One of the gang members (Yu Rong Guang) has a girlfriend residing in Hong Kong (Carrie Ng) and tries to contact her. The mainland cop used to go out with Carrie in the past. Not only is this a violent action film but it's also a complicated love story as well. Can Anthony Wong avenge the loss of his valuable L.P. and aid the mainland police in capturing these vicious robbers? Will Carrie Ng chose between the two men who are on opposite sides of the law? Find out in Rock N' Roll Cop!
A highly entertaining film by Kirk Wong. Anthony Wong is perfect in the role of the laid back Inspector who plays the guitar in his spare time. The action is pretty intense and well choreographed. The direction is solid as well as the photography. Too bad this film was censored in it's d.v.d. release. I had the fortune of renting this film uncut on Laser disc. The differences are real obvious. If you can I advise you to try and locate a copy of the original Category III version. A great watch that's highly recommended.
