Just finished this installment made for the DS, and for the most part it was a rather good game, but just not like the previous one. The main problem with this one was the previous game's strength, in that one you had the silent protagonist, however he was surrounded by a very colorful cast of characters. Here there are some good characters, but they are for the most part side characters. The main hero you design yourself, the rest are characters the computer I guess designed for you. I am thinking you can also have buddies join your quest via another DS, but I never did anything with this cause I am of the breed that prefers playing video games alone especially role playing games. The story works, as it involves a race of celestrians in the sky who watch over the land below. They protect towns and collect thanks from the denizens below in the hopes of making fruit sprout from the sacred tree in their lookout. Well the tree sprouts, however a blast soon rocks the lookout sending your character plummeting down to the world below. Once down there he/she will have to collect the fyggs (the fruit of the tree) as well as unravel the mystery of what caused such a devastating attack on the celestrian's lookout in the first place. The fighting is basic Dragon Quest, the only thing new really added was the ability to change jobs. Suffice to say I barely did any changing as you could win rather easily with keeping things as basic as possible. You will be grinding for experience a lot in this one, but that is par for the course in a Dragon Quest game. Alchemy is back in this one, but I hardly used this function either, winning the game is rather easy without really getting into any of these things. So a good story, marred by the playable characters silence and really having nothing to do with the plot. I am hoping the next one is done on a console rather than a hand held as well, but overall a fun game.
