Was surprised by this one. Saw it at netflix just now and was expecting a cringy Filipino Horror flick to waste a slow moving boring Sunday afternoon on. Instead, I saw a fun, unique filipino horror film. It's the kind of horror that would be great to watch with a group of friends, so I'll give it a 10/10 just for that
I appreciate it as it's very clear that the director wanted to head it into the supernatural horror-comedy genre, and combined with its special effects, it's clear that the director is a huge fan of Sam Raimi. Even the makeup is similar to the "deadites" from the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness
The problem though is that as the movie progresses, the comedy eventually overshadows the horror, like big time. The film instead looks more like a parody of a filipino horror film. Things like using spit a weapon, then going over the top by eventually using a bucket full of spit on the sexy actress. The director definitely had fun making it. If that is what the director aimed to do, horror-comedy/parody, then for a filipino film, it's really a thumbs up for me
Wouldve been better if there were more death scenes though, instead it looked like they had to keep it PG-13, which I believe is one of the reasons why I've yet to see a scary Filipino horror film. If such problems were fixed, it wouldve been a true 10/10.
