- StarsMamoru MiyanoBrad SwaileVincent TongAn intelligent high school student goes on a secret crusade to eliminate criminals from the world after discovering a notebook capable of killing anyone whose name is written into it.A kid kills people with a notebook, the story is full of twists and turns and many likable characters both good and bad. Pretty clean animation and score.
- StarsKôichi YamaderaUnshô IshizukaMegumi HayashibaraThe futuristic misadventures and tragedies of an easygoing bounty hunter and his partners. One of the best jazzy, sci-fi shooters ever made. Great story, great score by Yoko Kanno, and slick characters. The fight scenes are fun and musical.
- StarsBrina PalenciaJessie James GrelleLeah ClarkA young man competes with people around the world for a chance to become the succesor of God, with a diary that is able to tell the future. One of the most eeriest stories created. Intense thriller with a lot of mystery and violence using cell phones! Must see for any psychological thriller fan.
- CreatorHideaki AnnoStarsMegumi OgataMegumi HayashibaraKotono MitsuishiA teenage boy finds himself recruited as a member of an elite team of pilots by his father.Classic sc-fi mecha thriller. Characters are full of emotion and complexity. Pretty good mech fight scenes and two endings that really made you analyze it's meaning.
- CreatorShin'ichirô WatanabeStarsKazuya NakaiGinpei SatoAyako KawasumiFuu, a waitress who works in a teahouse, rescues two master swordsmen, Mugen and Jin, from their execution to help her find the "samurai who smells of sunflowers."Fun, stylish, samurai anime with cool instrumental beats made by the late Nujabes. The fight scenes are pretty awesome and the three main characters are cool and go great with each other.
- CreatorKeiko NobumotoStarsSarah HauserDarren PleavinKenta MiyakeIn a post-apocalyptic future where humans live in domed cities surrounded by wasteland, wolves are assumed to be two hundred years extinct.Epic story about almost extinct wolfs who disguise themselves as humans to survive. Tragic and lovely tale of sacrifice and finding a place you belong. The male leads are all stylish and cool. The animation is pretty nice as well.
- CreatorYasuhiro NightowStarsKirk ThorntonLex LangSteve BlumBrandon, a passive man, lives a laid-back life until his friends are murdered. He joins the mafia to be near Maria, the woman he loves, enduring hardships but willing to risk everything to be with her.Although much can be said about the second half of this anime, The first 25 episodes tell a great story of two friends working their way up in the world through organized crime and killing. It's a pretty cool Mafioso type anime with guys in black suits and guns and there is plenty of love, deceit, and betrayal.
- CreatorJun MaedaStarsHiroshi KamiyaHarumi SakuraiKana HanazawaRebellious teens fight in armed combat against one dispassionate girl's supernatural powers in an afterlife high school. This anime makes purgatory look hilarious and fun. A bunch of kids who have died get stuck in purgatory and have to figure out how to "cross-over". Typical, but hilarious Japanese classroom antics ensue. You end up feeling sorry but happy at the end of the show.
- StarsBlake ShepardAlice FulksAndrew LoveSet in a future where the sky has been changed into a giant mirror, two teenage children are caught in a struggle between a group of super-powered beings and a mysterious woman's team of children aiming to stop them.Very lo-fi, dark moody anime with some actually good fight scenes involving young kids with powers that trace their origin to the tomb of Gilgamesh. The story involves 3 different factions fighting for a different cause. The animation is a nice change of pace from your typical anime.
- CreatorYasuhiro NightowStarsMasaya OnosakaHiromi TsuruSatsuki YukinoVash the Stampede is the most infamous outlaw on the planet Gunsmoke and with a 60 billion double dollar price on his head the most sought after.Another shoot-em up sci-fi western with a little more comedic tone than Cowboy Bebop. The future in these anime is a wasteland and the main character isn't a space cowboy, but a wanted criminal. The anime is typical 90's style and Vash, the main character is very funny and easy to like.
- StarsJ. Michael TatumBrina PalenciaMichael C. PizzutoCiel Phantomhive takes care of the many unsettling events in Victorian England. Aided by Sebastian Michaelis, his loyal butler with seemingly inhuman abilities. But is there more to this black-clad butler than meets the eye?Dark, sleek, sexy, and cool, Black Butler tells a story of revenge and how far some will go to achieve it. Even making deals with demons. Ciel Phantomhive, the main character is ruthless and bitter, which makes him a character to root for in a story of this tone. The "Black Butler" Sebastian makes being a butler look so damn cool you wish you had a butler like him too. Great animation, great fight scenes, great score, and a lovely tragic story.
- StarsKaren StrassmanGrant GeorgeMichael McConnohieA young aspiring writer sets out on a cross country journey to collect 100 tales of the supernatural. On the way he meets some very strange characters, and learns about much more than folktales.Mysterious and dark horror story that tells tales of human immorality and the outcomes they have on one who commits such acts. The story is fun with all the ghostly folklore, but the animation gets confusing at times and some characters aren't developed. The beef in this anime is the visuals and graphic scenes that take place. Short and sweet anime.
- CreatorKatsura HoshinoStarsSanae KobayashiTodd HaberkornShizuka ItouYoung Allen Walker, an exorcist, fights Akuma to save the world.Although this story was never completed, DGM tells an elegant tale about a boy cursed from killing his own father, and the choice he made to use his power to exorcise demons and stop an ancient evil from winning an old war. The character costumes are elegant and cool and there are just too many likable characters both good and bad to even pick a side... or to even really decide who is good or who is evil!
- CreatorKazuki NakashimaStarsTetsuya KakiharaShizuka ItouYuri LowenthalTwo friends, Simon and Kamina, become the symbols of rebellion against the powerful Spiral King, who forced mankind into subterranean villages. One of the newer Mecha animes and one of the greatest. The story told here is a fight for humanity and for human advancement in a time where humans are regressed to living underground and have so for years. Leading the charge to break free is Kamina and his young homeboy Simon who pilots the heart of their tag-team mecha, Gurren Lagann. The anime is slick and flashy. Colors are very vibrant during fight scenes and almost surreal. Top recommendation for any Mecha fan.
- StarsJessie James GrelleBryce PapenbrookTrina NishimuraAfter his hometown is destroyed, young Eren Jaeger vows to cleanse the earth of the giant humanoid Titans that have brought humanity to the brink of extinction. The animation is sleek and a lot of money was probably spent on production value, but it was worth it to show the story about giant humans eating regular sized humans! Great story of tragedy and despair, you'll easily be hooked after one episode. Only draw back, the anime drags out the story line, but just go right to the manga for all your questions and go back to the anime for the visual aspect of it.
- StarsSteve StaleySteve KramerDavid EllensteinDuring a one-year war, a young lieutenant leads a mobile suit team against a secret Zeon weapon, meeting its pilot who questions the morality of the war.Out of all the Gundam shows about the war between the Federation and Zeon, this show is the most raw and most realistic showcase of soldiers fighting the war on earth. Unlike most of the Gundam stories, the 8th MS team fight the war on ground with more tactical and sometimes guerilla style strategies. They don't have the luxury of blasting off into space like other Gundams. The animation is fitting for its time, like most Gundam shows and the story is short and to the point.
- StarsJamie MarchiBrina PalenciaJessie James GrelleAll the students in a school are distributed according to their individual score in a test into six section and are treated according to their section.Typical Japanese classroom antics for the most part, but at this school the kids battle with Chibi avatars of themselves! This comedy is hilarious and the jokes range from funny yaoi situations to just as funny perverted humor. Animation is pretty up to date. Not much focus on a score when it comes to comedies.
- CreatorHajime YatateStarsAyako KawasumiBob BuchholzBridget HoffmanThe adventures of an outlaw crew of an advanced starship.Although not the best sci-fi, space gunning show, Outlaw Star still has some imaginative and quirky character designs and a very cool tone. The anime has chicks, guns, and a cool main character with a spaceship and crew.
- CreatorYoshiyuki TominoHajime YatateStarsHirotaka SuzuokiTôru FuruyaToshio FurukawaIn the war between the Earth Federation and Zeon, a young and inexperienced crew find themselves on a new spaceship. Their best hope of making it through the conflict is the Gundam, a giant humanoid robot, and its gifted teenage pilot. The original Gundam series. The animation is very retro, so it might be a turn-off for fans who aren't use to old school anime from the 70's but this space opera inspired and helped pioneer Mecha anime for years to come. True Mech fans have at least one Gundam series under their belt, why not the first one. The fight scenes are actually pretty fun to watch when it's the Gundam fighting. Or the Zaku II.
- CreatorKohta HiranoStarsKatie GrayCrispin FreemanVictoria HarwoodThe vampire Alucard, his master Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, and his newly sired ward Seras Victoria, try to protect England from a war-crazed SS-Major who seeks to start an eternal war with his vampire army. Not the original Hellsing anime, but this is one that follows the manga. If you loved the bloody, grotesque, and obscure art of the Hellsing manga and you've always wanted to see it in motion, this is the show. Great anime and graphic fight scenes!
- 201313 epsTV-147.2 (2.6K)TV SeriesCreatorNico TanigawaStarsIzumi KittaAyaka AsaiMonica RialSocially awkward Tomoko dreams of becoming a popular high school girl, but her goal may be further away than she thinks. To some, WataMote is a funny, Shojo anime about a girl who wants so bad to have friends and be accepted by her classmates but just can't. To others it's a sad story of someone who suffers from many symptoms of neurosis. Despite how much the girl thinks for sure she will have many friends and boys around her, she can't help but be cynical, delusional, a social-phobic, an insomniac, and overly anxious. After a few episodes, just like Tomoko, I wanted so bad for her to make a friend. Great story!
- StarsMegumi OgataYôko HikasaChiwa SaitôA group of teenagers enroll in a prestigious high school, which turns out to be a devious trap designed to tempt the pupils to murder one another in order to graduate.Great horror mystery anime with a talking killer teddy bear! A bunch of kids trapped in a school have to kill each other and must be proven innocent in a trail amongst his peers for murder to leave the campus. Tons of mystery and surprise. The death scenes are drawn in a more different way than the rest of the anime, which is either hit or miss. I thought it was somewhat creative.
- StarsAyako YoshitaniMiyu IrinoYûki KajiA newly transferred girl to Akira's school happens to drool on the desk. The otherwise normal Akira decides to taste it and it is now that things start to change as he will start going out with the girl, Mikoto, whom he seems destined for.Young kids in love, bizarre relationship rituals, and a few sexual innuendos make this anime a funny, cute love story about sucking spit.... You Just have to watch it. The main female character really grows on you the more she opens up to her boy Tsubaki and you want to hope that it works out for them despite Urabe's kinky mysteriousness. Animation is alright, very kinky and emotionally driven show.
- StarsKaori ShimizuCrispin FreemanRachael LillisA light in the sky, followed by a strange aura and murders. Each character tells their relationship with the event. All the stories are slowly intertwined by apparently minimal similarities and the story of Boogiepop is revealed. The animation has a somewhat older, grainy feel, but it sort of helps the tone of this horror story about several people and how events told earlier in the story affect them. Boogiepop Phantom can be confusing if you don't know the backstory from the manga prequels, but the horror visuals are a fun site to see.
- StarsTakahiro SakuraiBen PronskyTakuma SuzukiA satire comedy of a misfit high school with punks, robots, gorillas and much more. This anime will have you laughing with every episode.... from the first to the last. Hands down one of the most obscure comedies of all time. The jokes are hilarious, random, zany, and sometimes off-the-wall. There were many times when I was silent and one quick cut scene would happen in reference to the joke would have me instantly laughing. Some cool culture references, exaggerated Shonen art, and funny Japanese stereotypes make this a must see for a good laugh.
