Gifted children (or prodigy) movies are driven by an intriguing paradox: what if they don’t realize their full potential if not adequately challenged? But what if the pursuit of intense challenges inculcates within them a fear of failure which can adversely impact their childhood and beyond? In a world where individuals can be casually stigmatized for being ‘different’, extraordinary intellect can’t always be a gift. Movies like A Beautiful Mind (2001), Shine (1996), Good Will Hunting (1997), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), The End of the Tour (2015), The Man Who Knew Infinity (2016) dealt with super-smart people burdened with mental or emotional problems. The films mentioned below grapple with such problems or quandary (of kids & teens), some with unflinching profundity and some hide its relevant messages beneath saccharine narrative layers.

Marvel Studios has shared a cast list for the upcoming third and final season of What If...?, and Jeffrey Wright's Watcher looks set to be joined by another A-List lineup of Marvel Cinematic Universe talent.
We heard some time ago that season 3 would add some key Phase 4 characters to the mix, and that's evident from the presence of Kingo, Shang-Chi, Kate Bishop, and Moon Knight.
There aren't many surprises beyond that, though we are intrigued to see what the likes of Sonny Burch and Arishem the Judge bring to the table.

Over the last few years, Oscar winner Rami Malek has developed quite the line in playing socially awkward, variously psychologically traumatised, somewhat eccentric geniuses who sit all across the moral spectrum. Mr. Robot's Elliot Alderson, No Time To Die's villainous Safin, Bohemian Rhapsody's Freddie Mercury... the list goes on. In The Amateur, Slow Horses alum and One Life director James Hawes' upcoming revenge thriller, Malek is CIA decoder Charlie Heller, a man whose life is turned violently upside down when his wife (Rachel Brosnahan) is killed in a terrorist attack. In the tense first trailer for the film, which boasts the likes of Laurence Fishburne, Caitriona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, and Michael Stuhlbarg among its starry ensemble, it very quickly becomes clear that Charlie is set to become a worthy addition to Malek's resumé of unorthodox mavericks. Check it out below:

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Rami Malek in a lead role. Since he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for “Bohemian Rhapsody” in 2018, his biggest roles have been as a Bond villain in “No Time to Die” Denzel Washington’s LAPD partner in crime thriller “The Little Things,” and a supporting role in “Oppenheimer’s” large ensemble. None of these movies were really what you’d call Rami Malek movies. “The Amateur,” which 20th Century released a trailer for on Wednesday, is a Rami Malek movie. The espionage thriller looks to take advantage of Malek’s unique characteristics in a way nothing else quite has since “Mr. Robot.”

"I want to face my wife's killers, look them in the eyes, and balance the scales." Dark. 20th Century Studios has unveiled an official trailer for The Amateur, a thrilling new revenge movie from British director James Hawes (who also directed a bunch of episodes of that spy series "Slow Horses" if you want to get a sense of his cinematic style). The film follows a nerdy CIA cryptographer / software geek who manages to blackmail his own agency into training him to let him go after a group of terrorist who killed his wife in London. He realizes his bosses will not act due to conflicting internal priorities, so he takes things into his own hands. Oscar winner Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) isn’t a trained killer but he does have other skills that will prove extremely useful in finding his wife’s killers in The Amateur. The first trailer introduces Malek as a CIA decoder who vows revenge after his wife is murdered.
Oscar nominee Laurence Fishburne (What’s Love Got to Do with It), Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal and Michael Stuhlbarg also star, along with Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, and Danny Sapani.
“Charlie Heller (Malek) is a brilliant, but deeply introverted decoder for the CIA working out of a basement office at headquarters in Langley whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack,” reads 20th Century Studios’ synopsis. “When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek across the globe to track down those responsible,...

In an age where everyone wants their own John Wick, The Amateur’s Rami Malek and James Hawes were eager to take another route.
Inspired by Robert Littell’s 1981 homonymous spy novel and Charles Jarrott’s own big-screen adaptation that same year, Malek and his director, Hawes, relied on The Amateur’s foundational premise as a jumping-off point for their modernized take. Upon losing his wife (Rachel Brosnahan) in a terrorist attack, CIA cryptographer Charlie Heller ( Malek) strongarms his ambivalent bosses into green-lighting his own personal revenge mission. Thus, in the newly released trailer (below), the viewer is conditioned to expect the trope where Heller transforms himself into a one-man killing machine. But he’s quickly in for a rude awakening by way of Laurence Fishburne’s CIA instructor character.
Heller instead returns to his existing core competencies involving computers and technology, and thanks to Malek’s Emmy-winning role as...

Where Are They Now? Checking in on Former Child Stars - Main Image
Being a celebrity is no joke, and while some adults have problems with handling wealth and fame, several child stars had to deal with so much pressure at a much earlier age.
Child actors have been known to have very tough lives outside of the lighthearted shows they’ve been on, and their transition to adulthood is usually paved with all kinds of mistakes made public because of their status.
Not everyone manages to make the peaceful transition from child actor to just actor, and we take a look at the status of some promising young talents from before and where they ended up today.

Rami Malek says something unintentionally hilarious at the top of The Amateur trailer: "It's the CIA. I've got to trust that they'll make the right call." "This is the shot we have. We may not get another one... Let's finish it." Ready? Marvel has dropped the new official trailer for the latest season of What If...?, their fun anthology series taking crazy all-out "what if" imaginative looks at different characters and ideas in the MCU. This might be the final season because Marvel's own intro from YouTube states: "Witness the season that ends it all." The Watcher even comes out and says this, too. The first season launched in 2021 to mixed reviews, and this second season debuted in late 2023 one year ago. The opening once again is: Welcome back to the multiverse. So much to see in these 8 episodes! The voice cast set for Season 3 includes Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher, once again, along with Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Laurence Fishburne as Goliath, Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight, Simu Liu as Xu Shang-Chi,...

What if Francis Ford Coppola made a new movie and no one showed up? It happened once before in 1982 with the backlot musical "One from the Heart," and, lamentably, it happened again this year with the maestro's "Megalopolis," which will become available on digital starting November 12, 2024.
A self-funded, $100 million-plus epic vision of an alternate American reality, "Megalopolis" has grossed just under $14 million globally in theaters at the time of writing. True, its reviews were as dismal as those for "One from the Heart," but knowing that the latter went on to be reassessed as a misunderstood triumph should've at least encouraged critics to stay thy blades for fear of looking like a pack of Bosley Crowthers 20 or so years from now.
As a full-throated admirer of "One from the Heart," I've tried not to come down too hard on "Megalopolis," even though I feel fairly certain the film, short of a narrative-clarifying director's cut,...

With the absurd amount of content we’re inundated with in this era of streaming, I often find myself avoiding trailers when I can. This allows for films to come along and surprise me given my complete lack of expectations. I’d recommend taking this option when it comes to Cellar Door, the Jordana Brewster and Scott Speedman film that feels like it will be one thing and goes in an entirely different direction. What seems like supernatural hokeyness, turns into a more Fatal Attraction-style story of broken trust and murder. And as someone who has to watch a lot of indie horror for the job, I love those who do something a bit different.
I had an absolute blast talking with Jordana Brewster about Cellar Door. She had to be sure to give our other critic Alex Maidy some flack for his poor review of the film (thanks Alex) and under other circumstances,...

Transformers One Box Office (Worldwide): 7th Weekend Update( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Transformers One is not lost in the crowd of multiple releases despite underperforming at the box office. It has crossed a notable mark at the worldwide box office. However, the other animated feature, The Wild Robot, has completely overshadowed the Josh Cooley-helmed sci-fi flick. Scroll below for more.
The film is inspired by Hasbro’s Transformers toy line and is the second animated movie after the 1986 animated movie. It features an ensemble voice cast led by Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry alongside Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm. Despite having a great rating on Totten Tomatoes, the movie is underperforming. It was given 89% by the critics on Tomatometer and 98% by the audience on Popcornmeter.
Critics say, “Dramatically satisfying with a dash of good humor, Transformers One suggests that animation might be the optimal medium for this oft-adapted franchise.

Cellar Door, directed by Vaughn Stein, is a new thriller that has quickly garnered attention for its intriguing premise and star-studded cast. Featuring Scott Speedman and Jordana Brewster, the film delves into the unsettling history of a seemingly perfect suburban home. Following its premiere in limited U.S. theaters and on-demand platforms on November 1, 2024, audiences are eager to learn more about where and how to stream Cellar Door online.
What is Cellar Door About?
In Cellar Door, Scott Speedman and Jordana Brewster portray John and Sera Winters, a couple relocating to a beautiful but eerie house in suburban Portland after facing a traumatic miscarriage. The “Bluebeard”-like hook of splendors granted on one condition — never, ever enter a household’s specific forbidden zone — raises expectations of a spooky, macabre good time. Those expectations are almost entirely thwarted by “Cellar Door,” even to the degree of our never actually peeking behind the titular locked portal. Starring Jordana Brewster and Scott Speedman as a couple gifted luxe new digs with the aforementioned proviso, Vaughn Stein’s thriller is too simplistic and implausible to provide any chills. But despite some lurid eventual plot elements, it’s also too blandly slick in a TV-movie mode to offer much trashy fun. Lionsgate launches the feature in limited U.S. theaters plus on-demand platforms on Nov. 1.
The Winters are an innocuously attractive and devoted yuppie couple lent little distinguishing personality here by performers or script. John (Speedman) is a valued employee at an architecture firm; Sera (Brewster) a mathematics prof as well as accomplished pianist.

The trap of social expectations has captured its latest victim in Dwyane Wade. This weekend, the three-time NBA champion attended an unveiling ceremony for an eight-foot statue of himself gifted through the Miami Heat. His response to the figure can be likened only to receiving a hideous sweater, or one of those art kits with markers that never works, from your grandparents and having to play it off like it’s the best gift you’ve ever received. “That’s crazy, I can’t believe that,” Wade said, glancing back at the statue.

An unexplained impact leaves a mission to Saturn’s moon, Titan, in catastrophic danger, with Affleck and a skeleton crew struggling to keep a grip on reality
This is a very solid, if low-budget, addition to the sad-spaceman canon that already includes Interstellar, Ad Astra and Spaceman; it is also similar to Moon in the cyclical rhythms and psychological disintegration of its lonely voyager. This is astronaut John (Casey Affleck) who wakes up from hibernation at three-month intervals on his mission to Saturn’s moon, Titan, with an invariably nauseated and put-upon look that is apparently channelling paparazzi shots of his brother, Ben.
In order to reach their destination, John, his ramrod commanding officer Franks (Laurence Fishburne) and engineer Nash (Tomer Capone) must pull off a dicey slingshot manoeuvre to exploit Jupiter’s gravity. But adding to John’s homesick reveries of Zoe (Emily Beecham), the woman he left behind,...
