Kerry Washington as an army captain delivers a rousing speech to the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to battle overseas during the Second World War in the teaser trailer (below) for Netflix’s The Six Triple Eight from writer, director and producer Tyler Perry.
“This is our mission. And we will not fail,” Major Charity Adams (Washington) declares quayside as the 855 Black women and women of color of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion march forward at her command to board a ship taking them to battle.
Their mission was to sort through a three-year backlog of mail — 17 million letters in all — yet to be delivered to American soldiers overseas, to restore morale on the front lines.
The Netflix biopic is part of an effort to give the 6888th battalion belated recognition for their heroism as they overcame discrimination to complete their letter-posting duties well ahead of schedule.

The state murder of George Floyd in the summer of 2020 led a lot of people to take stock of their lives and values. Protests were attended; decisions about charitable giving were revised; media diets were re-evaluated. Vulture’s Kathryn VanArendonk wrote an essay that elucidated the problem: “Cops Are Always the Main Characters.”
Some shows’ producers met the moment head-on, taking accountability for their part in promoting copaganda. Brooklyn Nine-Nine, for example, famously scrapped a whole season’s worth of scripts and wrote life-changing self-reflection by its characters into what ended up being its final season: Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) retired from the NYPD to become a private detective working with clients who’d been victimized by corrupt policing, while Holt (Andre Braugher) and Santiago (Melissa Fumero) devised a plan to defund their department.

The exit of Camryn Manheim from Law & Order shows once more how the Dick Wolf shows have trouble writing off characters properly!
Caution: This article contains Spoilers for the Law & Order Season 24 premiere.
Fans of Law & Order are long used to turnover with the question of how characters can be written off. So they were curious as to how the season premiere for the show would handle the exit of Kate Dixon. Camryn Manehim’s character had been part of the show since its relaunch in 2022 and her leaving could have been something notable.
The episode opened with Shaw and Riley investigating the murder of a prosecutor. They were surprised by the arrival of Lieutenant Jessica Brady (Maura Tierney), who told them she was their new boss. When they asked about Dixon, she simply replied, “I don’t know.”
This dynamic was odd as the detectives went through the case.

Maura Tierney is about to join Law and Order and is giving a peek at what to expect from her new boss!
Law and Order fans are used to the revolving door of cast members coming and going over the show's 34-year history. Season 23 opened with Jeffrey Donovan having left as Frank Cosgrove and Reid Scott joining as Detective Vincent Riley. Midway through the season, Sam Waterston ended his long run as iconic D.A. Jack McCoy with Tony Goldwyn replacing him as Nicholas Baxter.
So it was little surprise it was announced in May that Camryn Manheim, who had joined the show in its 2022 revival as Lieutenant Kate Dixon, would be departing the series. There's no word on how Dixon leaves, but the show has already cast her replacement, with Maura Tierney joining the season 24 premiere as Lieutenant Jessica Grady.

Law And Order Spoilers – Family Tension?
In Law & Order, he portrays Randall Stabler, brother to Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and will be a series regular on the fifth season premiering on Peacock.
Apparently, his character is returning in order to help take care of their Mom, Bernadette, portrayed by Ellen Burstyn. What is the drama between these two? It goes way back an incident involving their Father years prior, though right now we don’t know what that is.

Tyler Perry’s upcoming Netflix film “Six Triple Eight” will tell the story of the heroic 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. The all-female, African American unit worked to distribute millions of letters to soldiers during World War II. Despite facing racism and difficult conditions, the women served with honor and distinction.
The film is based on an article that highlighted the unit’s actions. Tyler Perry wrote and directed the movie, which will star Kerry Washington. Washington plays the battalion’s commanding officer, Major Charity Adams. The women arrived in Europe in 1945 and had to organize over 17 million pieces of mail. This mail had piled up during the three years of war. By sorting and routing the letters, the unit helped reconnect soldiers with their families back home.
The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion faced many challenges. They dealt with racism, sexism, and difficult work situations. However, the women remained dedicated to their duty.

As she accepted the Democratic nomination Thursday night, Kamala Harris played up her attorney-general past. “As a prosecutor, when I had a case, I charged it not in the name of the victim, but in the name of the people,” she told the United Center crowd.
This follows a strategy she has pursued since ramping up her campaign. As a Law & Order-themed ad that aired Monday had it: “We need a president who has spent her life prosecuting perpetrators like Donald Trump.”
On one hand, such a tack relies on simple logic. Harris ascended politics on the ladder of her prosecutor reputation. With her opponent convicted of a felony — and him staking his candidacy on the Democrats’ alleged softness on crime — “successful career prosecutor” makes for a stellar defense.
But while perhaps a sound political strategy, Harris’ embrace of her previous job runs her into an unexpected roadblock: Hollywood has...

Yellowstone stars Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Kelsey Asbille, Wes Bentley, Jefferson White, and Ian Bohen. Before The Morning Show became an Emmy contender (with 16 nominations for its current third season, including outstanding drama series), The Newsroom garnered the TV Academy’s attention by examining the fast-paced world of primetime cable news. The Aaron Sorkin show, which ran on HBO for three seasons starting in 2012, took a West Wing-type approach to TV journalism, presenting the challenge of covering real-life stories from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill to the Boston Marathon bombing.
Jeff Daniels led the cast as Will McAvoy, anchor of the fictional evening news program News Night, whose crew — played by the likes of Emily Mortimer, Sam Waterston and Olivia Munn — are on a mission to cover the news smartly and objectively, ratings be damned. McAvoy sets the tone for the series in its opening scene, with a monologue expounding on why “America is not the greatest country in the world.”

The cast may change, but one thing that won’t about Law & Order is the bifurcated format: half the episode focuses on the police who investigate the crime and the other on the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. Since returning to NBC in 2022, the drama has said goodbye to the stars who returned from the original run and welcomed quite a few new faces. For Season 24, there’s someone new in charge on one of the sides of the case. Read on for that and everything else we know about what’s to come on Law & Order. Where did Season 23 leave off? Da Baxter (Tony Goldwyn) and his wife were at odds after their daughter ended up taking the stand during the finale’s case—past charges he had called in favors to have expunged from her record came to light—and he continued his campaign at an event at the end,...

Maura Tierney is returning to NBC—and Thursday nights, albeit two hours earlier than ER aired during its 15-season run. (Tierney joined the drama in Season 6 and left in Season 15.) Tierney has joined Law & Order in the series regular role as the new lieutenant. The casting for this character has been expected, given that Camryn Manheim‘s final episode was the Season 23 finale. We’ll have to wait to see just what kind of lieutenant Tierney’s character is (as well as anything we learn about her off the clock), but we do know from the show’s history she’ll be interacting mostly with Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) and Riley (Reid Scott)—and we expect her to clash with Da Baxter (Tony Goldwyn)—who took over following Sam Waterson‘s Jack McCoy resigning—and ADAs Price (Hugh Dancy) and Maroun (Odelya Halevi). It was announced less than a week before...
