Law & Order Svu star Mariska Hargitay felt it was love at first sight when she met Peter Hermann for the first time. But her Svu co-star Chris Meloni also saw sparks between the two. So much so that he knew they would end up together even when they didn’t.

It was very obvious to Meloni that Hargitay and Hermann would become an item. Hermann made an appearance in the season 3 Svu episode “Monogamy.” The title of the episode might’ve been heavy foreshadowing for Hargitay and Hermann at the time, who seemed to have fallen for each other pretty quickly. Meloni, who watched the pair interact from afar, knew he was watching a relationship in the making despite Hargitay’s denial.

For over two decades now, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has shone a light on harrowing crimes and brought justice for survivors. Through it all, one woman’s steady guidance has anchored the show: Captain Olivia Benson. Played with nuanced empathy by Mariska Hargitay, Benson started as a detective and worked her way up, solving cases while navigating personal struggles we’ve watched alongside her.
Now, as Season 26 begins, Benson leads a new generation of investigators. But how does this latest batch of episodes hold up? What issues are explored, and how successfully? Let’s take a look behind the scenes of this historic series to find out where it’s going.
The season premiere introduces a disturbing crime on a college campus. Meanwhile, newest special agent Kate Silva joins the squad, determined to prove herself. We also reconnect with beloved veterans like Sonny Carisi, now an Assistant District Attorney.

“Griselda” star Juliana Aidén Martinez played Miami Detective June Hawkins in the Netflix series, but she joins “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” Thursday night as a very different kind of law enforcement officer — her new character Detective Kate Silva’s father just so happens to be deputy commissioner with the NYPD.
Ahead of the Season 26 premiere on NBC, the actress told TheWrap that she was blown away by the warm welcome she got from “Svu” mainstay Mariska Hargitay, who gave her a “huge bear hug” when they first met, even though Martinez was merely still auditioning for the role at the time.
Martinez also detailed the “indescribable feeling” of filming on the streets of New York as part of such a well-known franchise and how the Miami native considers the city her “second home.”

Of all the fictional victims Mariska Hargitay has encountered over the years, they almost included a few recognizable faces.
After 25 years of starring as Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the Golden Globe winner recently revealed the “weird” request she frequently gets from celebrities who watch the NBC procedural.
“All the famous people, you know what they want?” she said on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “To be a dead body. It’s so weird.”
Hargitay recalled a “big supermodel” requesting to cameo as a dead body, noting that the unnamed model was “one of the greats.”
“I found out that she loved my show,” recounted Hargitay. “So I said, ‘Oh my gosh,’ I went to the writers, I said, ‘Can she be on the show?’ And she said she wanted to be a dead body, but then I said, ‘No, no, we have this great part for you.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Law & Order: Svu Season 26 premiere “Fractured.”] Between seasons of Law & Order: Svu, Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) has added a new detective, Kate Silva (Juliana Aidén Martinez), to the unit. And the Season 26 premiere, “Fractured,” her first episode, quickly gives us some information about her and shows us how she is as a detective. Since Silva (who moved over from Brooklyn homicide) doesn’t have a car assigned to her yet, Benson picks her up, and we learn that the detective’s father—”good police”—was a cop for 35 years and deputy commissioner for 10. Silva’s surprised it took Benson a few weeks to mention him, and the captain explains she didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. She’s a good shot, the unit sees, with Benson taking everyone to the shooting range, to make sure they’re all on their game, as she ...

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit – Pictured: Mariska Hargitay as Capt. Olivia Benson — (Photo by: Ralph Bavaro/NBC) When Mariska Hargitay won a role on producer Dick Wolf’s Law & Order spinoff, Special Victims Unit, she knew it had the potential to be a life-changing job, based on Wolf’s track record. She was right — of course, the show is just about to begin its record-setting 26th season on the air. But it wasn’t just Hargitay’s professional life that was forever changed … early on in the show’s run, she discovered it was going to change her personally, too, as she became a powerful activist for victims’ rights. Mariska Hargitay’s 25 years on “Law and Order: Svu” has impacted her own psyche.

Maura Tierney is about to join Law and Order and is giving a peek at what to expect from her new boss!
Law and Order fans are used to the revolving door of cast members coming and going over the show's 34-year history. Season 23 opened with Jeffrey Donovan having left as Frank Cosgrove and Reid Scott joining as Detective Vincent Riley. Midway through the season, Sam Waterston ended his long run as iconic D.A. Jack McCoy with Tony Goldwyn replacing him as Nicholas Baxter.
So it was little surprise it was announced in May that Camryn Manheim, who had joined the show in its 2022 revival as Lieutenant Kate Dixon, would be departing the series. There's no word on how Dixon leaves, but the show has already cast her replacement, with Maura Tierney joining the season 24 premiere as Lieutenant Jessica Grady.

Law & Order Svu stars Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni were known for their natural chemistry from the moment they were on screen. But there was a moment where the pair needed to rein in their chemistry under unique circumstances.

Hargitay felt she and Meloni were compatible from the start. As is the case with many co-stars, there was an initial process where the two had to acquaint themselves with each other. But it didn’t take long for them to feel each other out. Hargitay knew Meloni was her guy from the second she laid eyes on him.

Law and Order Svu Spoilers: Looks like Kelli Giddish will be reprising her role as Amanda Rollins in season 26 of the hit NBC Series. Fans will be excited to know that after her exit in S24, her return for a guest appearance in S25 was well received.
Kelli Giddish – Set To Return To Law And Order Svu Season 26
She’ll even be teamed up with Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) again! But as ecstatic as we are, it seems that now Rollins’s role has changed within the force.
She no longer works with the Svu Unit so much as the NYPD Intelligence Unit, executive producer and Showrunner David Graziano explained that it “is very different from the Intelligence Unit anywhere else, because the Intelligence Unit in New York has cops stationed in almost every country in the world, and so, Rollins is going to be traveling a lot as part of that job.

Law & Order: Svu made a controversial casting move recently. The show let Kelli Giddish go in a cost-cutting measure and wrote Amanda Rollins out of the series. This didn’t go over well with some other cast members. Mariska Hargitay, who playes Olivia Benson, made it clear she wasn’t happy and wanted Giddish back.
For at least a short time, Hargitay gets her wish.
Law & Order: Svu Bringing Back Rollins
Kelli Giddish joined the Law & Order: Svu cast in Season 13 as Amanda Rollins, where she stayed until Season 24. At that point, the franchise decided to let her go in a cost-cutting measure. This didn’t make the longest-running Svu star Mariska Hargitay happy.

Some of you will recognize the new face on Law &Order, if you were ever a fan of Fox’s drama “Prison Break” back in the day, then you will recognize Dean Norris. You might also recognize him from other roles such as Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Uncle Daddy in Claws, and “Big Jim” Rennie on the CBS series “Under the Dome” The actor has been in nearly 50 movies and over 100 different TV shows.
Law And Order Spoilers – Family Tension?
In Law & Order, he portrays Randall Stabler, brother to Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and will be a series regular on the fifth season premiering on Peacock.
Apparently, his character is returning in order to help take care of their Mom, Bernadette, portrayed by Ellen Burstyn. What is the drama between these two? It goes way back an incident involving their Father years prior, though right now we don’t know what that is.

Law & Order Svu star Ice-t hasn’t grown tired of working alongside Mariska Hargitay even after the pair being partners for over two decades. Not too long ago, Ice-t shared what he admired most about the Svu veteran.

Neither Ice-t nor Hargitay knew what to expect from each other when they first met. The music artist didn’t even think he’d be acting in Svu for too long, let alone for 25 years. So he had no clue that Hargitay would soon be like family to him.

Law & Order: Organized Crime‘s Elliot Stabler is going to have more time to spend with his brother Randall this season: Dean Norris has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming Season 5, a source confirms to TVLine. (Our sister site Deadline first reported the news.)
Norris recurred last season on Organized Crime — which, we should note, is moving to Peacock after four seasons on NBC — as real estate developer Randall Stabler, the older brother of Christopher Meloni’s Elliot Stabler. In Season 4, Randall was shown to have a shaky relationship with Elliot. (In fact, they came to blows at a tumultuous family dinner.

Ice-t has brushed off recent criticism that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has become too “woke” in its recent seasons.
The 66-year-old actor, who has played Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola on the NBC crime show since 2000, replied to a fan’s comment on social media platform X. When the fan asked if the show had gone back to “normal” after supposedly becoming “woke,” Ice-t responded honestly, saying he didn’t really understand what “woke” meant and didn’t care much about such criticisms.
Ice-t’s role as Tutuola is the second longest-running character in the show’s history, surpassed only by Mariska Hargitay‘s Olivia Benson. In a January interview, the actor described Svu as a “special” series, noting its unique impact on viewers.

The Season 23 finale of “Law & Order” left the fate of Tony Goldwyn’s D.A. Nicholas Baxter up in the air on election night, but showrunner Rick Eid told TheWrap ahead of the Oct. 3 premiere that the character has indeed won and will be back for the entire season.
He also promised that Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) will be “a big part” of the second episode, about the murder of a tech CEO. “[Benson] has a pre-existing relationship with the defendant in this case,” said Eid. “It’s really a big part of the episode. It felt organic to who Mariska’s character is, and it was an interesting element to the story that gave it another layer.”
Eid said the crossover, which also sees the return of Elizabeth Marvel’s character Defense Attorney Rita Calhoun, is more “organic” than some of the previous three-series premieres that included “Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Law & Order Svu was Chris Meloni’s longest stint on a television show. But the actor wondered if he’d been on Sv U for so long, that he’d be forever known as Elliot Stabler.

Meloni had been playing Stabler for 12 years before his surprising departure from Svu in 2011. He’s had plenty of noticeable roles in his career, but his no-nonsense detective quickly became his most popular character. And although shooting Svu wasn’t always easy at times, Meloni shared that the pros always outweighed the cons.
“The job at times is beyond frustrating. And yet everyday, through the fans and their feedback, it makes it more than worthwhile,” Meloni once said according to WolfFilmsLawandOrder. “I’m doing all of this in New York, I’m one of the minority of employed actors.

Law & Order Svu star Mariska Hargitay has been a part of the show ever since its inception. But because she’d had such a long career, there have been a few times where Hargitay came close to leaving the show. And perhaps she came closest after becoming a mother.

Hargitay’s almost perfect attendance record on Svu was disrupted after the actor went on maternity leave. The actor was expecting her and husband Peter Hermann’s first child, August, in 2006. Before his birth, Hargitay was deep in her work as detective Olivia Benson. To accommodate Hargitay’s pregnancy, she was written out of the show for a few episodes.
According to a post she wrote online, however, Hargitay might’ve been willing to work some days while pregnant if the showrunners allowed it.
