Ip Man 2, from Cine Asia, is a semi-biographical martial arts film loosely based on the life of Wing Chun grandmaster, Ip Man. The film was directed by Wilson Yip and Sammo Hung, produced by Raymond Wong, written by Edmond Wong, and stars martial arts legend, Donnie Yen, who reprises the leading role.
This sequel continues on from events in the first Ip Man film, and covers Ip Man’s life in Hong Kong, which was at the time under British colonial rule, and recovering from the Japanese invasion of China. Ip Man’s main hurdles are his reduced circumstances, British oppression, and rivalry from other martial arts practitioners, including the local Hung Ga master Hung Chun-nam, as played by Sammo Hung.

A remake of the film that turned Jean Claude Van Damme into an action-movie megastar, Kickboxer: Vengeance retreads the story of the brothers Sloan – the only difference here is that the the stakes are higher, the action is more brutal (the glass-on-gloves fight is certainly a Lot more bloody than in the original film) and this time round the bad guy is former WWE man-beast turned actor Dave Bautista and the Muay Thai expert that trains Kurt Sloan to face Tong Po is Van Damme!

"No rules, no refs, and the chance to be remembered for a lifetime..." Rlj Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for the new remake of the original 1989 Kickboxer action classic, this one retitled to Kickboxer: Vengeance. Believe it or not, they actually got Jean-Claude Van Damme to come back (as a trainer), and the rest of the cast isn't so bad either. Canadian stuntman Alain Moussi plays the new young kickboxing hot shot, and he goes to battle against Dave Bautista as a guy named Tong Po. The cast also includes Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre, Cain Velasquez, Fabricio Werdum, Matthew Ziff and Darren Shahlavi, among others. I don't have that many good things to say about this, as it's probably better to just watch the original Kickboxer instead, but maybe some people will be entertained. Have fun. Here's the first official trailer for John Stockwell's Kickboxer: Vengeance, originally...

Much like the shit-stirring Ghostbusters remake, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s 1989 cult classic Kickboxer is also getting the reboot treatment. No doubt the internet will soon be full of commenters infuriated that the film is ruining their childhoods and eager to point out that it would be totally fine if it were just another sequel rather than a reboot. Or maybe not.
Kickboxer: Vengeance raises the stakes of the story of two kickboxing brothers who get in over their heads in Thailand. In the original film, Van Damme’s Kurt decides to get revenge after his brother is paralyzed in the ring. In this new version, Kurt (Alain Moussi) watches his brother Eric (Darren Shahlavi) get murdered by Dave Bautista’s viscous Tong Po. Jean-Claude Van Damme continues to explore and embrace his darker side in this modest Asian action thriller, as a kidnap & rescue specialist who falls foul of organ traffickers in the Philippines. Sadly, budgetary constraints and a lack of interesting action beats make Pound Of Flesh as sloppy and indigestible as its title might suggest.Shortly after arriving in Manila, Deacon (Van Damme) comes to the aid of a young woman, Ana (Charlotte Peters), being manhandled by an overbearing suitor, Drake (Darren Shahlavi). But no sooner has he agreed to a "thank you" drink, Deacon wakes up to find himself in a bathtub full of ice, and his kidney missing. As if this wasn't reason to get mad on its own, Deacon was actually in town...

Ip Man
Directed by Wilson Yip
Written by Edmond Wong and Chan Tai-Li
Hong Kong, 2008
In this biopic, Donnie Yen is Ip Man, one of the earliest Wing Chun martial arts exponents and the man credited to have elevated its popularity in the early parts of the 20th century. Best known for his role as Bruce Lee’s first mentor, Ip Man is godlike amongst martial arts fans. As far as biopics goes, Ip Man isn’t really award-winning material. The picture takes plenty of liberties with the facts of the legendary practitioner of the Southern Chinese fighting style. It’s slightly exaggerated and fairly straightforward storytelling, but first and foremost, Ip Man is an excuse for Yen to demonstrate his newfound mastery of the Wing Chun style – and on that front, the film succeeds brilliantly.
