Deadline can reveal that 16 years after the original show aired, Abbott is in active development on a new series of the political thriller having previously flirted with bringing back the drama in the Noughties.
Produced by Red Arrow Studios-backed Endor Productions, the original series of State of Play featured a stellar cast including David Morrissey, John Simm, Bill Nighy, James McAvoy and Kelly MacDonald.
Morrissey played politician Stephen Collins, whose researcher is killed on the London Underground. Journalist Cal McCaffrey (Simm) and his editor Cameron Foster (Nighy) investigate, uncovering a complex story that reveals links between government and big business.
Abbott has long wanted to return to the characters, coming closest to revisiting the show in 2006/2007 when he wrote scripts taking forward the stories...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board of Governors has been wrestling with something they promised to do at that fateful October 14th meeting when they stripped accused sexual predator Harvey Weinstein of his Academy membership. Questions have been raised about how to handle other existing Academy members accused of misconduct, from Brett Ratner, Kevin Spacey and Bill Cosby to Stephen Collins and Roman Polanski, who have both admitted to having inappropriate sex with a minor, as well as future allegations.
Following Tuesday night’s Board meeting, Academy CEO Dawn Hudson sent out an email to Academy members, below. The Board has approved the Standards of Conduct, proposed by a special task force that has assembled procedures for dealing with allegations of misconduct in the Academy ranks. Those procedures will be revealed in the new year.

Stephen Collins may now best known be as a wolf in sheep's clothing, playing Reverend Camden on the Christian family show 7th Heaven while abusing children. Even though it appears that he admitted to molesting and exposing himself to kids on three separate occasions in a leaked therapy session with his estranged wife Faye Grant, TMZ now reports that the neither the Lapd nor the NYPD will prosecute him because they are hampered by statute of limitations. Neither police department has made any official statements and they are still investigating the matter. Grant also alleges that Collins molested another child while shooting 7th Heaven from 1996 to 2007, but the victim has not stepped forward as of yet.

Do you miss the Camdens -- the ever-expanding family from 7th Heaven? The series was cancelled in 2007 after 11 seasons -- 10 years on the WB, the final one on CW -- and at least one of the series' stars is interested in a reunion.
The show was actually due to end in 2006, mainly because of high production costs. The 10th season finale featured a wedding and a family reunion and former castmembers Barry Watson and Jessica Biel were on hand to help the show say goodbye. At the last minute, execs changed their minds and decided to renew 7th Heaven to help kick off the new CW network.
The show's budget had to be cut for season 11 and, as a result, several regular castmembers weren't in every episode. For the first time, the Camden household occasionally felt a little empty. Though the show's ratings were still pretty good by the end...
