She is the first unsigned artist to have a number one single in the US. Her song "Stay" from the soundtrack of Reality Bites (1994) spent three weeks at #1 on the US singles chart.

Loeb's big break came through Ethan Hawke, a neighbor of hers in New York City and whom she met through mutual friends. Hawke, who was filming Reality Bites (1994), submitted director Ben Stiller a demo tape of Loeb singing "Stay (I Missed You)", which he accepted. Hawke also directed and produced the video-clip to the song.

Has 2 children: daughter, Lyla Rose Loeb Hershkovitz (b. November 29, 2009) & son, Emet Kuli Loeb Hershkovitz (b. June 15, 2012) with husband, Roey Hershkovitz.
