"I jumped right in... The more we did, the easier we got." Republic Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for an action thriller movie called Strangers (as in - killing off strangers), not to be confused with the horror franchise at Lionsgate known as The Strangers (Chapter 1 opened earlier this summer). This is yet another of these derivative, generic crime thrillers being dumped directly to VOD (in September), since it does not look good. A frustrated woman's life takes a dark turn after a chance encounter with a mysterious hitman. Their whirlwind romance leads to a vigilante killing spree against criminals and dangerous people, but as she delves deeper, she begins to question the true nature of her partner and the shadows they both conceal. Of course, I wonder what's hidden within. Strangers stars Sienna Guillory, Jamie Bamber, Emmett J. Scanlan, Alex Blake, Ana Campbell, Nico Seedsman, and with Jon Voight.

“Battlestar Galactica” will not chronicle its next chapter on Peacock. A planned reboot for the classic sci-fi hit is no longer in development at the streamer, an insider close to the decision-making told TheWrap.
The project had been in development since 2019, helmed by Sam Esmail (“Mr. Robot”). It was never officially picked up to series at Peacock, and though no plot details were revealed, the show was set to be set in the same timeline as the popular 2003 series.
The news comes months after “The Sinner” EP Derek Simonds was tapped to be writer, executive producer and showrunner. The reboot will now be shopped around to other outlets by its production company, UCP, with whom Esmail has an overall deal. The project was in development with UCP, Esmail Corp and Chad Hamilton.
“Battlestar Galactica” was first introduced in the ’70s as a single-season show starring Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict and Lorne Greene.

It's hard to pick just one favorite character on the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica." One especially beloved member of that ensemble though, is Kara Thrace/Starbuck, the hotshot pilot with a spiritual side and self-doubt to match her strength. She's at the center of the series from the beginning and ultimately becomes the lynchpin in one of its more ... metaphysical storylines.
In the pilot mini-series of "Battlestar Galactica," the android Cylons wipe out the 12 Colonies of Man. So, the eponymous Galactica and a handful of surviving ships set out to find a new home while dodging their Cylon pursuers. The thrust of the series is this makeshift fleet's search for Earth, mythical home of the thirteenth tribe of man. In the end, Starbuck leads them there, sort of.
In season 3 episode "Maelstrom," Kara dies piloting her Viper (a space fighter jet) inside a gas giant. Her comrade/lover Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber) tries to dissuade her,...

“She’s probably a little bit reluctant, honestly, to go back to work,” Parminder Nagra admits of her character, Detective Inspector Rachita Ray, when D.I. Ray picks up with a second season on PBS on June 16. The show’s first season ended with Rachita discovering that her fiancé, Dci Martyn Hunter (Jamie Bamber) was dirty; he was arrested and is now in prison. During the course of the investigation, Rachita grew close to and romantically involved with Ps Tony Khatri (Maanuv Thiara), and he was killed. So how is she doing at the beginning of Season 2, which picks up two months later, following her suspension from the force? “She wasn’t left in good shape by the end of first season after the amount of betrayal that she went through, especially with her partner and the fact that we pick up so quickly after the shooting of Tony, [Martyn] going to prison,...

Stars: Charlotte Kirk, Jamie Bamber, Jonathan Howard, Hadi Khanjanpour, Tanji Kibong, Leon Ockenden, Troy Alexander | Written and Directed by Neil Marshall
Director Neil Marshall returns with a soldiers-vs-monsters thriller that harks back to his 2002 debut Dog Soldiers. Unfortunately, it’s something of a mixed bag – there are some entertainingly gloopy gore moments and the monsters are suitably monstrous, but the film is ultimately let down by dismal acting, a dull script and flat direction.
Charlotte Kirk plays Flight Lieutenant Kate Sinclair, who gets shot down over a rebel stronghold in Afghanistan. Fleeing her attackers, she takes refuge in an abandoned underground bunker and unwittingly unleashes an army of toothy monsters.

The 2001 HBO miniseries "Band of Brothers" was massive in scope, containing at least two dozen main characters, and just as many supporting players besides. It told the true story of an actual World War II infantry regiment nicknamed Easy Company, following the group on several dangerous missions, all overseen by Richard Winters, played in the series by Damian Lewis. Those paying attention in 2001 might recall the overwhelming size of the television event, and what a boon it was for the actors in it. Looking closely, one can see small roles from the likes of James McAvoy, Tom Hardy, Jamie Bamber, Dominic Cooper, and Simon Pegg.

Brett Ratner's 2006 superhero film "X-Men: The Last Stand" is set in the near future, and features a climax wherein the powerful mutant Magneto (Ian McKellen) floats a portion of the Golden Gate Bridge through the air using only his magnetic powers. Dozens of characters appear, several of them lose their mutant powers thanks to an anti-mutation serum, and others die outright. So many dramatic things occurred, it seemed difficult to continue the film series in a cogent way; it didn't seem that the studio could still incorporate the X-Men heroes audiences had come to love.
20th Century Fox, as a solution, began producing a series of flashback prequel films about the X-Men characters in their respective youths. The fourth film in the X-Men series was called "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and it told the story of how Logan (Hugh Jackman) came to have his metal skeleton and how he lost his memory,...

Made-for-tv movies have developed from their Hallmark stereotype in recent years, thanks to the rise of companies such as HBO. Although these films feature lower budgets and smaller casts than larger productions, they offer directors and actors greater freedom – leading them toward more successful results.

More than 100 key figures from the UK film and TV industry have signed a letter urging the UK government to take “immediate action” against Iranian authorities for “gross violations of human rights and women’s rights” in their response to the wave of public protests that erupted last year.
The industry leaders, including Barbara Broccoli, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Edgar Wright, are calling for the UK government to “actively campaign to stop the violence used against the protesters in Iran, including an immediate stop to all executions” and “demand the release of all political prisoners in Iran.”
“Enough is enough. If the global community, which the UK is an active and influential member of, does not act firmly, these atrocities will continue,” the letter reads. “We need to sincerely support the people of Iran in their fight for justice and freedom.”

A growing number of figures from the film and TV industry in the U.K. have signed a letter urging British politicians to support the people of Iran as the country faces global condemnation for executing several of those involved in the wave of protests that erupted last year.
The letter, instigated by British-Iranian filmmaker Babak Anvari, calls for members of U.K. parliament to actively campaign for Iran to stop violence against protesters and end all executions, to hold Iran accountable for the “gross violations of human rights and women’s rights,” and to demand that Iran releases all political prisoners.
Among the almost 100 names to have signed the letter, which is still circulating and gathering attention, are Olivia Colman, Martin McDonagh, Jessie Buckley, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Brett Goldstein, Jonathan Pryce, Hugh Bonneville, Richard Curtis, Gillian Anderson, Felicity Jones, George Mackay, Edgar Wright and Hayley Atwell.

There’s something inherently terrifying about subterranean horror. Getting trapped underground creates a tense survival scenario thanks to various dangers. But what about what’s lurking in the dark? Survival horror with carnivorous creatures provides fertile ground for fear.
Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) is back with the brand new underground monster movie The Lair, which comes to theaters and on Digital and VOD on October 28, 2022.
In The Lair, “Royal Air Force pilot Lt. Kate Sinclair (Charlotte Kirk) is shot down over Afghanistan and finds refuge in an abandoned underground bunker where deadly man-made biological weapons – half human, half alien – are awakened.”
Jonathan Howard (Thor: The Dark World) and Jamie Bamber (“Battlestar Galactica”) also star.
Charlotte Kirk co-wrote the screenplay with Neil Marshall.
In anticipation of Marshall’s return to the subterranean creature feature, we look back at eight horror movies that feature underground monsters.

Marshall said in a statement, “I’m thrilled to be back in the world of full-blooded action horror for the first time since ‘The Descent’ and ‘Dog Soldiers,’ and this film certainly holds some kinship with those two movies.
“Originally conceived as a small and contained indie film to shoot during lockdown, my ambitions for the movie grew into something much more action-packed and monster-fuelled, with a sci-fi twist.

Two decades after making his debut with werewolf war movie “Dog Soldiers,” Neil Marshall offers another spin on military-vs.-monsters action in “The Lair,” a semi-return to form that’s energetic if uninspired and increasingly silly. Nonetheless, it represents a bit of a rebound after the disasters of last year’s “The Reckoning” and an unhappy “Hellboy” reboot he disowned. This first issue from Scarlett Prods., the company he founded with star, co-writer and executive producer Charlotte Kirk, gets released by Rlje Films to limited U.S. theaters as well as VOD and digital Oct. 28. Launch on multi-territory genre streaming platform Shudder is planned for early next year.

The Lair, Director Neil Marshall’s latest genre piece, had the double honour of opening and receiving its world premiere at the 22nd annual FrightFest in London, England. Before the screening, Marshall stated that the movie “had a lot more in keeping with my earlier films like Dog Soldiers and The Descent”. The premise certainly backs this up - on paper it seems to capture the claustrophobia of The Descent and the action and siege environment of Dog Soldiers, but does it deliver a similar result?
The story focuses on Captain Kate Sinclair (Charlotte Kirk), a pilot who is shot down during her final combat mission in Afghanistan. She is ambushed by insurgents but manages to fend them off long enough to take shelter in a large underground bunker. The insurgents pursue Sinclair down under ground, but they find more than the lone Raf pilot there. They find a number of creatures in stasis,...

Escaping to the desert, Kate falls in with a band of bickering soldiers – dubbed “the Dirty Half-Dozen” – who include: American senior officer Finch (Jamie Bamber), rugby-loving Welshman Jones (Leon Ockenden), kleptomaniac African-American Lafayette (Tanji Kibong), grumpy Hook (Jonathan Howard), military...

A different actor would've played Lee Adama on the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica" had Jamie Bamber listened to his gut. Lee is one of the series' main characters, the son of Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos) and a reimagined version of the original series hero Apollo (Richard Hatch) — "Apollo" is simply Lee's pilot callsign rather his given name.
Bamber hasn't had the most illustrious career since "Galactica" ended; the fantasy series "17th Precinct," which reunited him with co-stars James Callis and Tricia Helfer and co-creator Ron Moore, never went past the pilot. But that's not a reflection on his acting...

To the casual observer, there’s nothing remarkable about Sylvia. An intelligent, confident woman, Sylvia tends to keep quiet about her formidable linguistic abilities, impressive knowledge of weaponry, and skills as a markswoman.
Questions about her professional life are met with bland answers about an unspectacular career in the Civil Service, which is only very slightly true – because until recently, Sylvia was a high-ranking British spy.
That's the official logline of Acorn TV's Signora Volpe, starring Emilia Fox as Sylvia. We had a chance to chat with her about making the show.

Jamie Bamber will be in the upcoming Acorn TV series, Signora Volpe.
He plays Adam Haines, a special agent and the husband of a former spy, Sylvia Fox (Emilia Fox).
When Sylvia decided to take a new direction with her life, she left behind a man who clearly still loves her, and he's not afraid to show it.
We had the chance to chat with Jamie about Signora Volpe and a whole lot more.
What drew you to Signora Volpe?
Oh, lots of things. Rome and Umbria, in Italy. I'm a massive Italophile. I studied Italian and French college, and I spent a year in Italy as a student. And this all came to pass just as we were coming out of the lockdown here in the UK, about this time last year. So, it was a great opportunity to be allowed to travel if people weren't free to travel.
