The Most Shocking Revelations from The Crown Season 5 (Photo Credit – Instagram)
The Crown Season 5 was full of revelations, especially about Princess Diana. So, let’s go back to Nov. 20, 1995, where it all started. Diana sat down with Martin Bashir for an interview—“H.R.H. the Princess of Wales”—that quickly became a royal exposé. Diana spilled tea hotter than Buckingham Palace’s afternoon brew, talking candidly about her crumbling marriage and Charles’s long-term fling with Camilla Parker Bowles.
One of the most legendary moments? When she was asked if Camilla played a role in her marriage’s meltdown. “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” she alluded. And that iconic line—“queen of people’s hearts”?
Diana also spilled some stuff about her struggles with bulimia and depression, asserting, “It was a symptom of what was going on in my marriage.

Princess Diana passed away twenty-seven years ago today, August 31st, marking the anniversary of her death and England’s loss.
Diana Was Known As “The People’s Princess”
The Princess of Wales died on this day in 1997 after sustaining injuries following a car crash in Paris. She had just had dinner at the Ritz with Dodi Al Fayed, and her drunk chauffeur decided he wanted to show off his impressive “driving skills” as he fled at top speed, apparently to avoid the paparazzi who were pursuing Diana.
Despite efforts to save her, Diana died around 4:00 a.m. that morning. Police bodyguards would have never allowed her to get into that car on that fateful night, but Diana’s police protection had been removed upon her separation from Prince Charles.
They called her “The People’s Princess. ” She truly loved everyone, especially children. Many moments of Diana’s life as the Princess of Wales stood out.

Michael Jackson will forever remain a pop culture icon for years to come. Having found fame at an early age and growing up as a celebrity kid, Jackson spent the majority of his life as the center of intense public and press speculation. Royal fans probably know way more about now-King Charles and Queen Camilla’s affair than they care to admit because of numerous documentaries, several books, what was rehashed in The Crown, and what Princess Diana revealed herself in that infamous Panorama interview.
But before the public knew any of the dirty details, Diana spilled everything her husband did with his former flame to someone who admitted what she heard left her “gobsmacked.” Here’s more on that and the reason that person never uttered a word about it before.
Who Princess Diana shared all the inmate details of Charles’ affair with
Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles tied the knot on July 29, 1981. The televised wedding resembled something out of a storybook but as we found out later, their marriage never mirrored a fairy tale.

Behind palace doors, Diana, who died in August 1997 at the age of 36, royal expert Ingrid Seward has revealed, lamented about her marriage to the queen.
“Diana used to go to her private room in between appointments that the Queen had, which were every 20 minutes, and burst into tears,” the Majesty Magazine editor-in-chief said, per Ok.

The BBC must release a large number of emails relating to Martin Bashir’s infamous 1995 interview with Princess Diana.
A report in Sky News said the emails in question are from a period in 2020 when the broadcaster was battling the scandal around the interview.
They were initially requested via a Freedom of Information (Foi) request submitted by Andrew Webb, a journalist and filmmaker.
The BBC has been “inconsistent, erroneous, and unreliable” said Judge Brian Kennedy in ordering the email release.
A BBC spokesperson said it “fully accepted” that “mistakes have been made in this case in the past. We are currently considering the tribunal’s decision carefully and it would not be appropriate to comment whilst the legal proceedings are ongoing.”
Webb said that the BBC failed to release more than 3,000 emails related to its handling of the scandal in 2020.

[This story contains spoilers from season six, part one of The Crown.]
In her 1995 Panorama interview with Martin Bashir, Princess Diana famously quipped that her marriage to Prince Charles was “a bit crowded” due to his extramarital relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles. And in The Crown’s retelling of her brief romance with Dodi Fayed, the creators paint a picture of yet another of Diana’s relationships that was never given the opportunity to simply exist between two individuals.
“One of the big things I did for season six is I gathered as many of the photos with the research team as I could of Dodi and Diana and I put them in chronological order,” explains Khalid Abdalla, who portrays Fayed in the Netflix historical drama. “When you put them in chronological order, it tells a story, and you’re kind of like, ‘Ah, that’s the moment when things shifted.’ You begin to feel the hounding from the media and all of these things.

Princess Diana‘s interview with Panorama is one of the most famous and infamous interviews ever given by a member of Britain’s royal family. It took place in 1995 inside Kensington Palace where the princess lived following her separation from then-Prince Charles.
The interview was watched by an estimated 23 million people, which was nearly half of the United Kingdom’s population at the time. It was explosive for viewers to hear Diana talk about her troubled marriage to the future king. But it’s now being reported that the late princess‘s words came from someone else as she was told how to respond and what to say about certain subjects.

Throughout the respective seasons of The Crown and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the audience watches two royal women, Princess Diana and Charlotte, take charge of their narratives. Their evolution also is visible in their hair.
Diana’s hair grows out from her iconic crop in the fifth season of the Netflix drama, eventually getting sleeker and more glamorous as she liberates herself from her marriage to Prince Charles. “For me, that evolution is of someone who is taking her independence and realizing her own value, her star value and what she was doing,” says The Crown hair designer Cate Hall. “She sort of looked like a film star by the end of that period.” It coincides with a change in hairdressing: “Her hair was silkier. Now, in season five, the show is led by Imelda Staunton as the Queen, Dominic West as Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki as Diana.

As father and son, Prince William and King Charles bear remarkable similarities. But there is one way in which the two couldn’t be more different, and it is related to how they treat their spouses.
Charles famously got jealous whenever Princess Diana garnered more attention than him. On the contrary, William has a completely different reaction whenever Kate Middleton becomes the focal point of public adoration.

Undoubtedly, Charles’ unease over the widespread admiration for his first wife, Diana, was common knowledge during their union. Reportedly, Diana’s prominence was a source of ‘discontent’ for Charles, casting a shadow over their relationship during her ascent to global fame.
Given Diana’s popularity, this is something that plagued the couple throughout their marriage.

As the heir to the throne, he claims that the most critical aspect of royal life is “strength.” He once boldly commented about maintaining privacy, declaring, “You can’t just be carrying baggage and throwing it out there.”

The Gold Derby predictions center event for the 2023 Emmy Awards has now added the Drama Guest Actor category. We have compiled lists of nearly 40 eligible performers in each of the four guest acting races that reflect our educated guesses on who will be submitted for consideration. More names will be added in the next few months and when the Television Academy releases this year’s ballots in June. Make your very first selections now!
Last year, “Succession” dominated this category with four of the six slots for guests Adrien Brody, James Cromwell, Arian Moayed, and Alexander Skarsgård. As of this writing, we anticipate both Cromwell and Moayed will be guest eligible — Moayed has already appeared in one Season 4 episode so far — while Skarsgård may appear in enough episodes to be deemed supporting. Princess Diana believed Prince Harry might have been “better equipped” to become king than Prince William. That’s according to royal expert Charles Rae, a former correspondent for The Sun. Diana even gave Harry a nickname that reflected that and helped make him feel a little extra special sometimes.
Despite all that, insiders say Diana didn’t believe William would make a lousy king. But there was supposedly part of his personality that made her nervous about his future when he was younger. And they claim that what he lacked, she thought Harry might have had in abundance.

Prince Harry revealed details about his life as a royal family member in his book Spare and during high-profile TV interviews. One topic he focused on was how the death of his mother, Princess Diana, affected him.
A royal author says Prince Harry was “unfair” to Prince William. According to the author, Harry doesn’t do a sufficient job of acknowledging William’s pain. William also lost his mother, but much of the attention is focused on how Diana’s death affected Harry.

Relations between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the royal family appear to be rockier than ever after the couple’s new Netflix docuseries, “Harry & Meghan”.
While there has been no comment from either Buckingham Palace or Kensington Palace about the Sussexes’ recent docuseries, a source close to the royal family says “there is no trust left,” particularly when Prince Harry is about to release his book, Spare.”
“Everyone remains wary” until Harry’s book is published, the source adds, with concern mounting about what may come next.
Another source tells Et that several members of the family are “angry” about what was portrayed in the docuseries and frustrated that they cannot respond.
Et has learned that tensions are particularly high between Harry and his brother, Prince William, after the docuseries used footage of their late mother, Prince Diana’s, controversial “Panorama” interview with Martin Bashir. Last May, Prince William...

Prince William will be “livid” about Prince Harry including bits of their mother Princess Diana’s infamous 1995 Panorama interview in the “Harry & Meghan” Netflix documentary, a royal expert has said.
Katie Nicholl, who wrote The New Royals, told Ok!: “He’ll be livid. William has campaigned for that footage to never be screened again, so for it be used in his brother’s own reality TV show will be very frustrating for William.
“It’s quite antagonistic and it’s not right. I think the way Harry has monopolized Diana’s narrative as his own must be very hurtful for William too.
“Diana was their mother, it was their story and loss and their story to share, not to be monopolized by Harry and Meghan.”

The first three episodes of ‘Harry & Meghan’, the highly anticipated Netflix docuseries about Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, dropped on Thursday after a frenzy of speculative reporting in the British media about the content and how damaging it would be for King Charles III and Prince William, reports ‘Variety’.
None of the royal family members agreed to be interviewed for the series, which contains a number of revelations on the Harry-Meghan love story – they met over Instagram and Harry was late for his first date! – and also about the early bumps in their relationship with the family.
The first three episodes, however, do not contain anything that may upset the royal family, but it carries footage from Princess Diana’s controversial ‘Panorama’ interview with the now-disgraced BBC journalist Martin Bashir, which, ‘Variety’ notes, is “likely to anger” the Prince of Wales.

Netflix’s Harry & Meghan looks set to reopen old wounds about the controversial 1995 Panorama interview as the Duke of Sussex broke rank to say his mother was “speaking the truth of her experience” in the interview.
In episode one of the hotly-anticipated doc series, which came out this morning, Netflix uses footage of the now-disgraced interview secured by Martin Bashir for the BBC to illustrate Diana’s treatment by the media.
Harry states before the clip: “I think we all know she was deceived into giving the interview but at the same time she spoke the truth of her experience.”
Prince William has previously said the interview “holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again,” jarring with Harry’s remark in the Netflix series and the fact that Netflix aired the clip.

Controversy and debate surround season five of “The Crown,” but Elizabeth Debicki has largely been praised for her portrayal of Princess Diana.
Debicki, best known for her work in the limited series “The Night Manager” and films including “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Tenet,” said she prepared for the role more than any previous job she’s had.
A delay of filming due to the pandemic allowed for extra time to study and perfect the Princess’ mannerisms and way of speaking.
“When I wrapped I thought, ‘Well, I’ve done my best. Now we’ll see,’” said the French-born Debicki, who moved with her family as a child to Australia.
She was first told producers had her in mind for the role after she auditioned for a small part in season two, which she says did not go well.
“I was really confused about the part they were asking me...

The storylines in the fifth season of The Crown have provoked much backlash, from scenes showing the former Prince Charles trying to force the Queen’s abdication to others suggesting Prince Philip was unfaithful to the late monarch.
Prominent figures, including Judi Dench, have demanded that the drama carry a disclaimer to make clear that the events of the series aren’t entirely factual. While The Crown actor Jonathan Pryce, has called these reactions to the show “hugely disappointing”, claiming that viewers know it’s a drama, not a documentary.
Some of the storylines in season five are pretty close to the truth. Others, not so much.

“The Crown” is back — and so is the Netflix series’ accompanying drama about what is and is not factually accurate. This season feels particularly explosive, as the first batch of episodes to take place in the oh-so-well-documented 1990s. Among the many topics tackled are the dissolution of marriages, the discovery of the remains of the Tsar of Russia and his family, the election of Tony Blair — and Prince Philip’s obsession with carriage driving.
In order to sift through what is historically accurate and what is merely conjecture (if not outright dramatic fiction), we turn to the Internet’s favorite arbiter of fact versus fantasy: Jonathan Frakes, the host of late ’90s meme-fave “Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction.” Are these “um, what?!?” moments true? Or is Peter Morgan just pulling the crown over our eyes?
Did Prince Charles really cut short his second honeymoon with Diana and their children?
Although...

Warning: contains spoilers for The Crown season 5.
The Crown and historical accuracy enjoy a fleeting rather than steadfast acquaintance. Peter Morgan’s Netflix drama concertinas history and jumps between time periods to follow emotional and symbolic through-lines rather than sticking to the recorded facts and timelines. “Inspired by real events, this fictional dramatization…” goes the proviso at the top of Season Five. School pupils shouldn’t rely on it to do their history homework, is the general consensus.
That established, below is the timeline of the 1991 – 1997 period depicted in Season Five according to the TV drama, with the odd note on where episodes diverge from what we know to be the real-life sequence of events.
As a reminder, Season four covered ‘The Thatcher Years’, running from Margaret Thatcher’s election as prime minister of Great Britain in May 1979 to her resignation as leader of the Conservative Party in November 1990, after...

Warning: contains minor spoilers about events covered inThe Crown Season 5
Season Five of The Crown is arguably the most sordid season of this historical drama so far, focusing heavily on the royal family’s messy marital breakdowns. Unsurprisingly, this involves a detailed depiction of Princess Diana’s infamous Martin Bashir interview on Panorama in November 1995, but this has led to the show skipping over a truly bonkers royal moment that is well worth revisiting.
In October 1995, Her Majesty the Queen fell victim to a hoax phone call by a Canadian radio DJ, who was posing as Canada’s then Prime Minister, Jean Chretien.
The seven-minute phone call – in which our late monarch discussed getting involved in Quebec’s referendum on breaking away from Canada, as well as confirming the royal family’s Halloween plans – was the work of Pierre Brassard, a skilled impressionist and presenter of a satirical radio programme on Ckoi FM in Montreal.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Crown Season 5, Episode 8, “Gunpowder.”] When it comes to Netflix’s The Crown, the series may be based on real-life figures, but it doesn’t always deliver on reality as certain changes are made to further captivate audiences. Season 5 is no exception, particularly when it centers around one of the most famous interviews given by a royal ever. Princess Diana’s (Elizabeth Debicki) infamous segment for the BBC takes center stage in the eighth episode, “Gunpowder” in which she agrees to speak one-on-one with Martin Bashir about her struggles, marriage, and hopes for the future. The events surrounding the interview’s culmination are pretty accurate based on prior accounts of Bashir and the BBC team entering Kensington Palace on November 5, 1995 under the false pretense that they were there to install a hi-fi system. The pivotal interview took place on Guy Fawkes Day in both reality and onscreen as Diana’s...

Since The Crown launched on Netflix in 2016, it’s become a monumental hit, including being the first show to win all seven major drama category awards during the 2021 Emmys. And now it’s back for its fifth, and penultimate, series.
There’s a particular buzz around this latest season of this fictional dramatisation of the life of Queen Elizabeth II: not only is there a major cast change for the second time, it will also be the first time a new series airs since the deaths of Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip.
Season five will cover the 1990s, arguably one of the royal family’s most difficult decades. They endured a major fire at Windsor Castle, the messy public breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage, and the leadup to the tragedy of Diana’s death in a car crash in Paris.

The actors behind The Crown‘s latest version of the British royal family — including Dominic West, Jonathan Pryce and Lesley Manville — welcomed fans to the ’90s at the world premiere of The Crown‘s fifth season on Tuesday night.
On a wet evening in central London, with Queen Elizabeth II no longer on the throne, a fresh cast for Netflix’s hit series ushered in its long-awaited return.
Season five’s Prince Charles (played by West), led the lineup on the red carpet for the show’s world premiere at the brightly lit and aptly named Theatre Royal Drury Lane. It was here a young Jonny Lee Miller used to sell programs and ice cream, according to Pryce, who stars as a 70-year-old Prince Philip. The highly anticipated fifth season of "The Crown" arrives on Nov. 9, transporting audiences back to Brtain in 1991. A 65-year-old Queen Elizabeth II is entering her 39th year at the helm, and the series is set to cover around half of the tumultuous ensuing decade for the queen and her family.
Continuing the tradition of bringing a fresh cast every two seasons to realistically portray the aging royals, Olivia Colman is this time replaced by Imelda Staunton as the monarch, while Jonathan Pryce takes up the reins as Prince Philip. Margaret Thatcher (played gloriously in season four by Gillian Anderson) is gone, after being unceremoniously shown the door of Number 10 by duplicitous members of her own party. She's replaced as prime minister by John Major, played by the surprisingly cast Jonny Lee Miller.

British actor Prasanna Puwanarajah is on a career high with a starring turn in the new season of “The Crown” and his feature directorial debut “Ballywalter” beginning its festival journey by opening the Belfast Film Festival.
Puwanarajah is of Tamil Sri Lankan heritage and has used aspects of his background to inform both his role in “The Crown” and his directing turn on “Ballywalter,” he tells Variety.
In “The Crown,” Puwanarajah plays British journalist Martin Bashir, who conducted the infamous and now disreputed 1995 BBC “Panorama” interview with Princess Diana. Bashir is of Pakistani heritage.
“It’s very rare that as an actor you are using the full range of your physical and spiritual and heritage offer — particularly in the way that casting can happen, where it can feel quite last minute and diversity can feel like, as Riz Ahmed puts it, an optional extra, where people aren’t really looking...

"The Crown" season 5 is inching closer to its release and is packed with unprecedented drama that will dominate Internet discourse for the next few weeks. A new season brings an exciting new cast (changed every two years to depict naturally aging royals), and new characters take center stage, all to unravel a six-year period between 1991 and 1997 when the public was overwhelmingly critical of the monarchy and their doings.
Not to mention the scandal and controversy that broke out during this time, which changed the monarchy forever. The separation of Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki), her explosive Panorama interview with Martin Bashir, her subsequent relationship with Dodi Fayed, and the tragic Windsor Castle fire, among other circumstances, led the Queen's subjects to wonder whether their country needed a monarchy in the first place. For Queen Elizabeth II, the people's criticism of her family was a near-impossible situation to navigate,...

"The Crown" returns this week with a season that's sure to be one of its most talked about to date. While much of the Netflix series has centered on the rise and reign of Queen Elizabeth, who's been played by Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, and Imelda Staunton in turn, the series' fourth season introduced one of the most beloved figures in British royal history: Princess Diana. The late Princess of Wales was portrayed in her early years with perfect coyness, charm, and sensitivity by Emma Corrin. Now, "Widows" star Elizabeth Debicki is set to take over the role, playing Diana during her emotionally fraught, intensely public later years.
Of course, "The Crown" will also likely have more eyes on it following the death of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, a major moment in history that has led to renewed conversations around the downsides of the monarch. Peter Morgan's partly...

When Netflix announced yet another new cast for the series "The Crown," as they do when the show jumps through time, an old memory popped up in my head. A much older friend of mine once looked at a picture of her younger self and said, "I remember her. I haven't seen her in a long time," as though she'd been a different person back then. It made me think about how much people change over the years and sometimes don't recognize their younger selves.
Recently, Netflix released a new featurette from the series about the British royal family as it moves into the 1990s. It features some comments from the cast and crew about joining this already-established show and the pressure that comes along with portraying a different, older version of these real people.
