The second season of Netflix's Wednesday has added a new cast member that's sure to bring the show a lot of attention, with Lady Gaga set to join the Addams Family spin-off series in a mysterious role.

Details on Gaga's character have not been released, but Variety believes that her part is more likely to be a cameo than a full-on supporting role.

Gaga's involvement with the series was foreshadowed shortly after the first season, when a meme featuring Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams dancing to a sped-up version of 2011's Bloody Mary went viral.

Ortega would later state that she would love Gaga to be a part of the show while being interviewed at the 2023 Golden Globes.

Legendary actor/comedian and “Only Murders in the Building” star Martin Short is set to join Season 2 of Fox’s animated comedy “Grimsburg” in a recurring role. Short will play Otis Volcanowitz — the newest, and youngest, detective at the Grimsburg police department.

Short will appear opposite “Grimsburg” star and executive producer Jon Hamm, who plays the main character of Det. Martin Flute. The news was set to be announced on Sunday during Fox’s “Grimsburg” panel at the New York Comic-Con.

Netflix has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes look at Season 2 of “Wednesday,” which is slated to premiere in 2025.

Thursday’s sneak peek features stars Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán; director Tim Burton; and co-creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, as well as various looks at the new episodes’ sets and extras.

“This season is going to be bigger and more twisted than you could ever imagine,” Zeta-Jones says in the 48-second teaser.

“If we showed you anymore, your eyes would bleed,” Ortega adds. “I’m not that generous.”

Production on the new season in Ireland began back in May.

“The Perfect Couple” has all the makings of a prestige drama akin to the likes of “Big Little Lies” and “The Undoing”: a star-studded cast, a murder mystery that unravels the façade of an upperclass community and, of course, Nicole Kidman.

But the Elin Hilderbrand adaptation had a much different start as a network pilot, which initially went into development at Fox in 2019 as a coproduction between Fox and SideCar. It was then SideCar’s Gail Berman who emailed Jenna Lamia about the potential of coming onboard as a writer — and Lamia was immediately sold.

“I didn’t even finish reading the email — I wrote back, ‘I am definitely the writer. You do not need to send me the book. I read it last summer when it came out … I’m a huge fan — what do I have to do to convince you that I’m a writer?'” showrunner Lamia told TheWrap.

These days, television shows rarely have a theme song or even a memorable opening title sequence. If we're lucky, we get the show's title on the screen for a split second with an instrumental song. Maybe the title simply just displays on screen as the episode opens or after a cold open. Unfortunately, theme songs with clips of the cast and their names are mostly a relic of the past.

However, there's one thing Netflix's The Perfect Couple does right and it's deploy a theme song and an extended opening title sequence. Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor's song "Criminals," from the deluxe edition of her 2024 album Timeless, acts as the limited series' theme song for all six episodes. Set in Nantucket, “The Perfect Couple” portrays a rarefied, 1% version of America in which people have staff and use “summer” as a verb. Which is precisely why director Susanne Bier turned down the offer to direct Netflix’s adapt tion of Elin Hilderbrand’s novel when producer Gail Berman first approached her.

“It’s not my world,” says Bier, the Danish director whose films “After the Wedding” and “In a Better World” were nominated for Oscars, and who won a directing Emmy for the 2016 Tom Hiddleston spy thriller “The Night Manager.”

Berman and screenwriter Jenna Lamia persuaded Bier to change her mind. With the show set to start shooting in a few months and no cast attached, the director wasted no time reaching out to Nicole Kidman. They’d worked together on the HBO limited series “The Undoing,” and now she offered her the role of moneyed matriarch Greer Garrison Winbury.

Netflix’s The Perfect Couple series is coming on September 5th and will bring more murder mysteries to the streaming platform. Exclusive: Wednesday and Elvis producer Gail Berman, founder and CEO of The Jackal Group, has signed a three-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. Under the pact, which starts today, the industry veteran will develop and produce scripted series for cable and streaming platforms.

Berman, an Oscar, Emmy and Tony-nominated producer and the only woman to have held top posts at both a major film studio and a broadcast television network, is coming off receiving the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television at the 2024 PGA Awards.

The list of co-signees provided to Variety Monday morning covers a broad swath of the industry including actors, executives, creators (Amy Sherman-Palladino), directors, producers and representatives. About 500 more individuals have added their names to the nearly 500 who signed on when the open letter was first published.

The group’s statement says: “We refute our Jewishness being hijacked for the purpose of drawing a moral equivalence between a Nazi regime that sought to exterminate a race of people, and an Israeli nation that seeks to avert its own extermination.”

The guild is asking studios, streamers and other large-scale content companies to help fund health insurance for “qualified producers” through line items in TV and film production budgets.

PGA presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line unveiled the health care initiative during their address to the audience at the Hollywood & Highland’s Ray Dolby Ballroom. The push is designed to close the gap between producers and Hollywood’s other creative guilds by giving those who meet PGA criteria easy access to health insurance coverage.

The 2024 Producers Guild of America Awards took awards season one step closer to the Oscars.

The annual PGA Awards happened February 25, immediately following the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The awards-heavy weekend festivities also included the 2024 SAG Awards on February 24.

The nominees mirror the Academy Awards’ frontrunners list, with winner “Oppenheimer,” plus “American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Barbie,” “The Holdovers,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Past Lives,” “Poor Things,” and “The Zone of Interest” among the contenders.

Formally known as the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, the Theatrical Motion Picture category for the PGA Awards has historically been an indicator of Best Picture winners, with 15 of the previous 20 winners going on to win the top title at the Academy Awards.

Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas, Chuck Roven and their producing team took home the Darryl F. Zanuck Award, which recognizes excellence in producing for a theatrical feature film. The prize has become perhaps the most important precursor to nabbing the Academy Award for best picture.

Thomas told the crowd that many may not know that Nolan, the film’s writer and director, excelled most in his role as producer: “He’s absolutely brilliant, we’ve worked on 12 films now.”
