The mythology of Game of Thrones was enduring enough to have survived the fall of House Benioff & Weiss with their ghastly Season 8 scripture. As such, stepping into House of the Dragon with the prequel generation of Targaryens and Velaryons has felt easier compared to the experience that left everyone with a sour taste in their mouth.

However, with the lore established and the storylines fleshed out, the intimacy that the audience has developed with the world of Westeros makes almost every viewer an expert in the inner workings of the Houses that rule the world. With the Iron Throne at the center of it all, it seems as though one singular character was born to be a Lannister, yet fate unjustly assigned him to the House of the Dragon.

Most of us know Billy Corgan as the frontman of Smashing Pumpkins and outspokenness. But he’s also been the Owner and Promoter of the prestigious wrestling promotion the National Wrestling Alliance (Aka Nwa) since 2017. To say that Corgan is busy would be the understatement of the century. So it was surprising to hear that he’s starring in his own reality TV show, Billy Corgan’s Adventures in Carnyland. But I suppose everyone is diversifying in this complicated media landscape.
I was able to catch the first two episodes of Carnyland and it’s a fun enough time. I’d say that it’s very much geared towards wrestling fans, so fans of Smashing Pumpkins may be a little disappointed. But as a big wrestling fan, there’s a lot of interesting insight. They still keep it more Kayfabe than I’d like but that old-school aesthetic is part...

As Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt join forces on screen for the upcoming action flick The Fall Guy, their promotional efforts have also seen playful nods to their 2023 movies, which created a cultural phenomenon Barbenheimer.
And the light-hearted rivalry between the two actors appears poised to persist, at least that’s what it seems from the Barbie star’s reaction to a reporter sharing his preference for the Christopher Nolan film over the Oscar-nominated movie.

The Undertaker’s commitment to risking his body for fans’ entertainment has solidified his legendary status, having collaborated with top names during his time in the company, including the likes of The Rock, Triple H, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and many more. Aew Revolution 2024 was a hell of a show and it ended with the satisfying finale of Sting’s time in the ring. The final stretch of Sting’s career was a wonderful chance to set things right for the legendary wrestler, after the wrestling business had constantly let him down over the years. He was once the ace of WCW, but the incompetence and selfishness of others hurt his legacy in different ways at different promotions. But despite being in his 60s, his three years at Aew allowed him to go out on his own terms.
The Stinger is a beloved icon for a reason. The release date for WWE 2K24 is getting closer, and fans have been waiting to get their hands on it. The upcoming title will also include a 40 Years of WrestleMania edition, so fans can look forward to reliving some iconic matches. The roster for the game is also looking good, with several returning characters joined by a few surprise entries.
Among them, however, fans have noticed the absence of one superstar, leading to a lot of confusion, especially as the Showcase mode is filled with former WWE legends, so missing out on this particular superstar makes little to no sense, but that could still change before the game is out.

According to Deadline, DC Studios are preparing to begin the testing process for the role of Supergirl in the DC Universe. In the mix are Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), Emilia Jones (Locke & Key), and Meg Donnelly (The Winchesters).
Deadline’s report states that the Supergirl testing will take place sometime in the next month, with James Gunn definitely playing a part in the process. The character is set to take the lead of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but there’s the chance she could make an appearance in another DC project, which is why the studio wants to sign an actress sooner rather than later. We all know how this process goes, so take this all with a grain of salt; while these actresses could wind up testing for the role, it could easily land in someone else’s lap.

A contemporary love story that plays with the ancient mythology of the country itself, Iceland begins with a seemingly chance encounter between Vala, a disillusioned architect in search of answers, and Mundi, a dispirited wilderness guide mentally scarred by a climbing accident some years before. The heroine and hero embark on separate journeys across the physical and emotional terrain of a glacier, which catapults them into the realm of The Hiddenfolk and the Mythic Beasts. Through Vala and Mundi’s opposing trajectories and eventual union, Iceland explores – using movement, music, and design – how longing, courage, and...

From The Smashing Pumpkins to body-slamming: Billy Corgan has purchased the National Wrestling Alliance, according to PWInsider. The rocker and former Tna Wrestling president now owns the name, rights and trademarks to the Nwa — he also gets its iconic championship belt. Additionally, Corgan inherits a ton of history: the National Wrestling Alliance was formed way back in 1948, and its roots are even older. Since officially starting 69 years ago, the league has produced many all-time greats, like Buddy Rogers, Pat O’Conner, Dory Funk, Jack Brisco, Terry Funk, Dusty Rhodes, Kerry Von Erich, Ric Flair, Sting, Ricky Steamboat, Ken Shamrock, Jeff.

January 24th, 1988 was a great day in wrestling history. On that date, live on the USA Network, the WWE held their first ever Royal Rumble. In classic Vince McMahon fashion, holding this event for free on cable was a way to keep folks from ordering the Bunkhouse Stampede pay per view Jim Crockett Promotions put out that same day. The Royal Rumble match itself was revolutionary. Starting with two performers in the ring, at regularly timed intervals, another performer would come out until, in the case of the 1988 Royal Rumble, all twenty participants were in the ring. The winner of that first Rumble was Hacksaw Jim Duggan.
Fast forward 29 years and here we are at the 30th Royal Rumble. Unlike the Rumble’s that have occurred the past five years, the WWE has done an amazing job of promoting this event. They have some great matches in store as well...

1.Sad news this week in the world of pro wrestling when it was announced that legendary performer Mr. Fuji, Harry Fujiwara, passed away at the age of 83. Mr. Fuji had a long stay in the business, first as an in ring performer, collecting many tag team championships around the world, than as a manager of such acts as Demolition and The Powers of Pain. He also had a reputation as a ribber, someone in the business who pulls pranks to lighten the mood. Hearing a couple of the ribs he pulled off as they were discussed on the Eric Bischoff podcast when he interviewed Hulk Hogan, I have to say I am glad I never made that guy angry. Hide your cats! (Listen to the podcast to find out why.) Mr. Fuji was a legend and will be missed.

WWE releases come in two flavours, the regular PPV sets that are always good for reliving those favourite moments, and the releases that focus on a particular topic or aspect of the WWE’s illustrious history. These latter releases have proved to be exceedingly well put together over the last few years, having established a winning template of including a feature length documentary accompanied by a couple of dozen matches.
I was somewhat disappointed to discover, then, that the new WWE Us Championship – A Legacy of Greatness release doesn’t include a documentary, as I would have thought that the long and varied history of this often overlooked belt would have been ideal for this treatment.
Instead we get a bumper crop of matches that are introduced in groups by short clips of John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield awkwardly reading off his autocue and not entirely convincing the viewer that he really wants to be there.

I’ve often said that I find the history WWE Blu-Ray releases the best, so when one was released celebrating the Us Championship I was obviously looking forward to it. Although we often see people like John Cena dominating the belt these days it has one of the more interesting histories of any of the belts. WWE – The Us Championship: A Legacy of Greatness reveals just how varied this history is.
The fact that WWE now has a huge library of footage from all kinds of wrestling federations from the past allows them to pull out some real gems. These include matches that aren’t even complete, and don’t feature commentary. This is the case of Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat with Andre the Giant as guest referee. Filmed in 1978 in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling it is a nice addition for the history loving wrestling fan, especially those who love Andre.

Since its debut at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 31, 1985, WWE’s annual WrestleMania extravaganza has brought us some of the greatest pro wrestling matches ever contested.
Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat (1987), Savage vs. The Ultimate Warrior (1991), Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon (1994), Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin (1997), Austin vs. The Rock (2001), Michaels vs. Kurt Angle (2005), Edge vs. The Undertaker (2008), Michaels vs. Undertaker (2009 and 2010) and others held at the show of shows are widely regarded as classics.

For the most part, martial arts gimmicks don’t really work in the world of professional wrestling, unless the performer taking on that gimmick actually has a solid background in one discipline or another.
There are exceptions, of course. Guys like Ricky Steamboat and X-Pac went on to great success in the industry while heavily incorporating elements of hand-to-hand combat into their characters. But what they may have lacked in technical discipline, they made up for with panache and pure athleticism.
On the other end of the spectrum, not every wrestler with a martial arts background actually uses it once they step into the ring. In fact, you may be surprised at the number of WWE Superstars who had major martial arts experience prior to their in-ring debut.
So let’s dig through the roster and see whose hands should be registered as lethal weapons.

The art of selling is something that’s lost on the industry today, at least according to legendary announcer Jim Ross. On his podcast, Ross has been highly outspoken about the idea of modern wrestlers slowing things down a little more. It’s hard to argue that things have quickened, WWE matches move at a startling pace nowadays. More often than not, this comes at the expense of selling.
To ‘sell’ in wrestling means to convey the idea of pain or distress to the watching audience. Those who do it effectively – such as Ricky Steamboat via his facial expressions – have been able to make careers out of the art form. It makes sense that there have been good sellers and bad sellers in wrestling history, not everybody can be a master. However, there are those who have a craving for the dramatic, which is where the idea of ‘overselling’ comes into play.

There’s something about wearing tights and beating up on people in front of a roaring crowd that makes you feel invincible. After all, if you deliver a perfect and precise flying elbow drop from the top turnbuckle or fall twenty feet through a table and get right back up, then truly nothing is impossible!
Except making really good music, apparently. Because the skills learned in the ring apparently don’t magically translate to the recording studio. Who Knew?
As long as wrestlers keep trying to branch out from the industry that made them famous and expand their personal brand by any means necessary, then we’ll never have to worry about living in a world where wrestling superstars don’t make cringeworthy albums.
Although, as you’ll read below, not all of these attempts are terrible. In fact, you might even like a few of them, if...

In today’s WWE Universe, the Survivor Series has turned into just another pay-per-view (or “WWE Network special presentation”, however you want to say it), but, back in the day, it was one of the premiere events on the WWE calendar.
An Original Four event, the Survivor Series featured an entire card stacked with teams of four wrestlers taking on another team in an elimination tag match. In its earliest incarnation, the “survivors” of the matches on the card would meet in the main event in an Ultimate Survivor Match to determine the king(s) of the Survivor Series.
However, with the Attitude Era came changes in the product and WWE felt that the late 1990s audiences didn’t have the attention span for Survivor Series matches, which sometimes ran as long as 40 minutes to tell a proper story. This made the event far less important and less...

The roster for WWE 2K16 is complete. Well, WWE and 2K have us all believe that it is at least.
While there have been a whole host of new surprises, there are still a few glaring absentees from the now seemingly complete roster that simply must be in the new game. We can’t be having another episode like last year when someone as prestigious as Paige was made part of the season pass at an additional cost.
Do these absentees mean that these weekly reveals aren’t over? Only time will tell. You can see the confirmed roster in full here.
Nevertheless, here are the newest names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor,...

What has been billed as the final batch of Superstars for WWE 2K16 has been confirmed this afternoon.
Here are the names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor, Mark Henry, Ministry Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, Savio Vega, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, Sting ’99, Sting Blonde and finally the two Terminator renders.
The new names show how in-depth the Stone Cold mode will be. It looks like we’re going to be travelling right through his days as a Hollywood Blonde with Brian Pillman and that feud with Ricky Steamboat, stopping off for a cup of coffee in Ecw to feud with Mikey Whipwreck (and maybe Sandman?), and then going through his main run in WWE, including the 2001 Royal Rumble.

Nobody who gets into the professional wrestling business does so without having a list of favourites and guys they watch to learn from. Well, they shouldn’t, anyway, because nobody knows everything there is to know about the business and there is always someone you can learn from. Once you make it to WWE you should always be looking to improve and move up the card.
Now that the WWE Network exists, there is no reason why aspiring wrestlers can’t sit and study tape for hours, making mental notes on how to improve their game. Gone are the days when aspiring grapplers would have to pay large sums of money and wait three weeks for delivery of a third generation copy of a VHS.

Winning the World Heavyweight Championship for a wrestler is up there for prestige with being an actor and winning the Oscar. It’s simply the top prize of your trade. To get that kind of prestige you must be a compelling performer, able to capture the imaginations of audiences worldwide. You must have the dedication of a Pope and the presence of a Hollywood icon.
But wrestling is a fickle mistress. No matter how loudly the crowd chants your name, how much TV time you have, or how much merchandise you shift, you may never get the big belt around your waist. Some of the hardest working, most popular grapplers in the industry simply could not find that magic formula of personality, match quality, timing and luck. Word Championship Wrestling came into existence after Ted Turner purchased Jim Crockett Promotions’ Nwa-affiliated pro wrestling territory (which was airing on TBS) on October 11, 1988. In this being the case, coming up with a list of “greatest matches in WCW history starts with anything televised by the promotion from the October 15, 1988 airing of “World Championship Wrestling” on TBS to the final Monday Nitro on March 26, 2001. In that 12-year run, there were certainly more than 30 amazing matches in WCW. However, these are the best.
In encapsulating what the “best matches” were in WCW, it’s an intriguing mix of performers that both defined what the industry had been all about before (Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan, Terry Funk, Ricky Steamboat, Sting, Rick Rude), redefined that established North American expectation (Steve Austin, Brian Pillman, Chris Benoit, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Goldberg) and also those who blew that expectation to the moon (Vader,...

The United States Championship is one of the rare titles that has existed in three separate organizations and has been held by countless Hall of Fame inductees. Traditionally the penultimate stop on a competitor’s journey to the heavyweight title of the world, it was the reward for a star’s hard work and an announcement to the rest of the wrestling world that the new U.S. titleholder was being groomed for bigger and better things.
There is perhaps no greater example of that than Magnum Ta, who captured the title in 1985 and was clearly anointed the industry’s next top babyface. Had a catastrophic car crash not prematurely ended his career, the United States Championship would have catapulted him to the very top of sports entertainment.
Other examples of competitors parlaying are Diamond Dallas Page, John Cena, Ric Flair, Lex Luger and Ricky Steamboat.

The moment a new Intercontinental champion is crowned, the wide community of internet fans asks themselves the same question: is this the guy?
Is this the guy to make the title matter again?
For years now, the Ic title has been a shadow of its once proud self, an afterthought ever since its status as the not-quite-ready-for-primetime championship was co-opted by the now-defunct World Heavyweight Title. Recently, it has changed hands 8 times in 8 months, all but crushed Bad New Barrett’s momentum, and been the subject of a truly farcical steal-the-belt angle, which was just a handful of Yoink sound effects away from a looney tunes cartoon.

So often the fans sigh and dream back to the days of workhorse champions like Pat Patterson, Bret Hart, and Ricky Steamboat, but you don’t even have to look that far back to remember when the title had prestige.

WrestleMania 31 has come and gone, and with the biggest week in wrestling now out of the way, we’re left with some big, burning questions. Most pressing of all: Why does Ricky Steamboat always have to wear a gi and headband when he shows up at WrestleMania? And how many times will Joey Mercury jump off the second rope and land into an Rko? It didn’t work the first five times!
Overall, though, it was a pretty exciting week in wrestling. WrestleMania was solid, Kalisto and Neville made their main roster debuts, Sheamus put some twisty things in his beard, and Impact put on another “pretty good” show, which means they’ve come a long way from their specialty of “pretty terrible” shows of the past.
With all this great stuff going on, that must mean there’s nothing to complain about right? Why not at all!

No matter how many times non-fans tell us that “its all fake” or that “they know how to fall”, we true fans Know that wrestling hurts.
In one shoot interview, Chris Jericho remembered that Ricky Steamboat once told him to “be prepared to live every day in pain” if he wanted to make it as a pro wrestler. “He wasn’t wrong about that,” recalled Jericho.
The reality of wrestling is a hard one. In a very real sense, wrestlers place their careers and their bodies in the hands of their opponents, every single night. This is why concepts like the ‘worker’s handshake’ evolved in the first place (basically, a ‘working handshake’ is a soft, light handshake that implies that the person shaking your hand can be trusted not to hurt you too badly in the ring).
However, some wrestlers are gentler than others! Others still are...

Ask any current pro wrestler who their favourite performers are, and there’s a good chance that the name Ric Flair will be on that list. Heralded by fans and peers alike as one of the greatest of all time, ‘The Nature Boy’ has left an in-ring legacy behind which is second to none.
Of course, it’s impossible to think that a character as over-the-top and in-your-face as Ric Flair hasn’t made enemies, but even his worst critics would say of his antics, “that’s just Ric being Ric”. The sheer volume of memorable matches the man has been involved in, from classic battles against Ricky Steamboat, Sting, Dusty Rhodes and Harley Race, to more modern examples such as his bouts opposite The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, is truly insane.

Randy Savage, WWE Hall Of Famer. Randy’s induction has been a Very long time coming as most will agree. There is a lot of speculation as to why it took so long, but at least now it will happen. It is just unfortunate that Randy is not alive to participate.

WWE has done a great job of promoting Nxt this year. No longer the best kept secret in wrestling, Nxt is now one of the shows to watch thanks to the WWE hype machine.
But WWE has been smart enough to make sure that Nxt remains its own brand and retains its own identity. WWE wants Nxt to be its own thing and Triple H has worked hard to make sure that Nxt (a project of his) succeeds.

A great gimmick can mean so much to any performer in WWE. For every amazing character that has lasted a long time like The Undertaker or Kane, there’s a long list of terrible ones like Kwang, The Sultan, Aldo Montoya and so many others. If you lined up all the terrible gimmicks in wrestling history it would be a pile that would last miles long.
If a great wrestler is saddled with a terrible gimmick then they will never succeed. Look at Ricky Steamboat as “The Dragon” when he was breathing fire or Steve Austin starting out as The Ringmaster with Ted Dibiase managing him before really breaking out as “Stone Cold” on his own.

The WWE DVD release of ‘Macho Man – The Randy Savage Story’ is going to be notable for several reasons. It has been suggested that it’s a precursor to Savage Finally going into the WWE Hall Of Fame. It is also WWE’s first documentary style look at just what exactly did go wrong between Macho and Vince in the mid nineties.
The DVD and Blu Ray will be available from Mid November and comprises a full documentary and various classic matches over a three disc set. Given the revelations in the documentary, and the rare matches being unavailable on WWE Network, this is one purchase that wrestling fans aren’t going to want to miss.

When I first began watching professional wrestling, some 22 years ago in 1992, the one wrestler who made me sit up and take notice was “Macho Man” Randy Savage. My first wrestling event I ever saw features Savage and Ric Flair wrestling for the WWF Championship in Indiana at WrestleMania 8. Randy Savage has been a favourite of mine ever since, a remarkable performer, he truly had the “it” that promoters in wrestling look for year after year. A top-class wrestler who, in many ways, was ahead of his time, Savage was also truly original on the microphone with his trademark growl-voice and catch-phrases like “Ooh Yeah”, “Dig it!” and “Snap into a Slim Jim!” The latter of which, as silly as it sounds, helped solidify Savage as a household name, someone that even non-fans of wrestling had heard of.

Brock Lesnar is the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion and there are rumors that he will be wearing the gold until next year’s WrestleMania 31. Some fans love the idea of a champion who only shows up on special occasions while others feel it is the champion’s duty to wrestle on every pay-per-view as well as Raw, Smackdown. There are valid points on both sides of the argument.
Old school fans who grew up with Hulkamania won’t even bat an eyelash at a part-time wrestler carrying the belt. Those who were raised in the Attitude Era and beyond have been spoiled, in a sense, because a weekly appearance by the champion is the norm. There really is no right or wrong answer to the part-time Lesnar equation. However, in order to appeal to those who want a top-tier champion on a consistent basis, WWE already has the answer,...

One of the great things about the WWE Network is getting the chance to go back and take a look at some of your most cherished childhood memories, whether it was Ricky Steamboat going all-out with Randy Savage at WrestleMania III, or even some great one-off PPV events. But perhaps even more exciting than that is actually getting to see the early days of the company that would challenge the all-powerful WWF in the 1990’s; World Championship Wrestling.
The house that Turner built included a bevy of wrestlers that eventually went on to do some great things with the WWE, some of them having even become world champions. It’s quite a thrill to pop on something like Starrcade 94 and realize that you’re watching a young Triple H have a match with Alex Wright. So many men who would go on to accomplish great things in the WWE,...

If you ask a wrestler whether they like being a heel or face more, most of the time they’re going to say heel. When you’re a heel you can take more creative liberties, deliver more entertaining promos and basically get away with anything you want. Babyfaces are often times boring. They typically have to smile, suck up the fans and make sure they represent the company in a positive way. The business needs babyfaces, but for the performers it’s definitely more fun for them to be a heel.
Over the course of wrestling history, nearly every performer has been a face and a heel at various points in his or her career. Even the ones like Ricky Steamboat or Sting that were babyfaces for the majority of their careers have dabbled as heels too. It’s just the nature of the business. If you’re...

A long, long time ago, in a galaxy not all that far away, the Intercontinental Championship meant something. Like really meant something. Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect, Shawn Michaels, Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage, Tito Santana, Don Muraco and Pat Patterson waged wars over the title, sacrificing themselves for the allure of the gold. They bled, sweated and cried for the right to hoist the belt overhead, to have their names etched in the history books. It was a great honor to be selected to hold the belt because it meant that you were considered to be one of the best workers in the industry. For some, the strap was a stepping stone to bigger and better things further up the card. For others, it was the culmination of years of hard work and a sign of respect from management.
Over time, the title has been greatly devalued. It has become a prop,...

After the reveal of a disappointing WWE Network subscriber account, the WWE has looked to fix flaws as it pertains to the service. Pretty soon, you may not have the luxury of sharing your Network password with your friends and family.
According to Figure 4 Weekly, the WWE has finally acknowledged a major issue with the Network, in that users can share their passwords with multiple users. On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez revealed that someone e-mailed him stating that they shared it with up to ten users at once, without any problem. It’s more than likely that WWE will be looking to fix this soon, in an effort to increase subscribers.
WWE also recently sent a survey to fans in an effort to check fan interest in the possibility of running WWE Fantasy Camps at their state of the art Performance Center in Orlando.

“Superfly” Jimmy Snuka could fly like no one else.
His Superfly Splash from the top rope onto his opponents was a thing of brutal beauty and he delivered it to the likes of Ray “The Crippler” Stevens, Paul Orndorff, “Cowboy” Bob Orton, and many more throughout the 1970s and ’80s.
“Snuka’s leap off the top of the cage was as groundbreaking as any single maneuver ever in our business,” esteemed announcer Jim Ross said on the WWE produced DVD, The Greatest Wrestling Stars of the ’80s. “It showed athletes that if you’re talented enough and proficient in your skills, and you’ve got the guts, there’s really no limits.”
Hailing from the Fiji Islands, Snuka was a standout in a long line of Samoan greats. Trained in Hawaii by “Cowboy” Franky Laine, Snuka debuted in 1971 in Portland, Oregon, battling everyone from “Playboy” Buddy Rose to...
