Hulu has greenlighted Phony, a comedy pilot starring and executive produced by Connie Britton, from Drew Goddard’s Goddard Textiles and 20th Television.

Written, directed and executive produced by Nick Paley (Marcel The Shell With Shoes On), Phony is a comedic coming-of-age mystery about a teenager, Sonny, who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident to discover his mom — his only parent and his best friend — appears to have been replaced by an impostor.

Britton will play Sonny’s single mom Ellen and the principal of his high school.

The pilot brings Britton back to her comedy roots — she started her career with an arc on Ellen before landing a lead role opposite Michael J. Fox on Spin City.

Britton and Paley executive produce Phony alongside Charlie Alderman of Charlie’s Production Company and Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg via Goddard Textiles. Goddard Textiles’ Andrea Massaro is a producer.

Broadway star Gavin Creel has passed away at the age of 48 on September 30. He was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in July 2024. Broadway actor Gavin Creel died Monday at the age of 48.

The Tony-winning star, known for his leading roles in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hair and the recent revival of Into the Woods as well as his activism and positivity in the Broadway community, died after being diagnosed with metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, in July. He underwent treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering before transitioning to hospice care at home.

His passing was confirmed by his partner, Alex Temple Ward.

Known for his energetic and ebullient performances and his resonant voice, Creel won a Tony for his role as Cornelius Hackl opposite Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce in the 2017 revival of Hello, Dolly!, directed by Jerry Zaks. Critics praised his portrayal of the enthusiastic shop clerk, with THR critic David Rooney noting that Creel’s voice had “never sounded sweeter,” adding that “Creel...

Gl aired on CBS from June 30, 1952, to September 18, 2009. Before that it was broadcast on the radio from January 25, 1937, and June 29, 1956. It aired on both CBS and on the radio from 1952-1956. Keep reading to see what they had to say!

How would you feel about Gl being rebooted as a movie? I would love it. There is the selfish reason that I would get to see and work with my wonderful friends on the show. There is also the knowledge of the joy that would bring to long-time viewers. People rarely understand the unique aspect of these long-running series. They provided a touch point between generations.

Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice and Amanda Schull are set to appear as recurring guest stars in “Spider-Noir.”

The group joins previously announced series regulars Nicolas Cage, Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li and Jack Huston.

Based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir, the live-action series tells the story of an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.

The series is executive produced by co-showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal and Harry Bradbeer, who is set to direct the first two episodes. Lord and Miller executive produce through Lord Miller along with Aditya Sood and Dan Shear, while Pascal EPs via Pascal Pictures.

Television’s biggest night took place in Century City, CA on September 14th, when Emmy Awards nominees and presenters, along with some of the most powerful entertainment industry influencers, joined together for MPTF’s 18th annual “Evening Before” benefit.

From the moment Eugene and Dan Levy casually strolled on stage — without so much as a pre-taped lead-in video — the 2024 Emmy Awards felt like nothing special. After all, many of the attendees had already been to an Emmys ceremony this year. Getting hyped to watch the same winners, year after year, is a recurring issue for TV’s grandest night, but the challenge becomes that much harder when a chunk of those winners were rewarded less than nine months ago. Similarly buzz-killing is the idea that the new winners are predetermined, as many expected “Shōgun,” “Baby Reindeer,” and “The Bear” to do well at the 76th Emmy Awards, which they did. For the most part.

But despite slight early surprises (Liza Colon-Zayas! Lamorne Morris!) and a major late stunner (“Hacks” putting the “comedy” back in Best Comedy Series), ABC’s telecast was constantly fighting familiarity, if not outright redundancy. Where...

Father and son Eugene and Dan Levy did a respectable job of hosting the 2024 Primetime Emmys, popping in just enough throughout the two-hour running time to guide the show without overstaying their welcome. Their opening bit avoided any controversial topics, and Dan Levy got a big laugh when he described the Emmys as broadcast TV’s biggest night for honoring movie stars on streaming services. Eugene also earned solid applause when he joked, “In the true spirit of The Bear, we will not be making any jokes,” while addressing the show’s controversial classification as a comedy.

Speaking of The Bear, the series was awarded four Emmys during the broadcast in the Actor (Jeremy Allen White), Supporting Actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Supporting Actress (Liza Colón-Zayas), and Outstanding Directing categories. But Hacks pulled off a surprise win, snagging the Comedy Series Emmy.

Joshua Jackson is hitting the stage!

The 46-year-old Doctor Odyssey actor helped present the Governors Award to Greg Berlanti at the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sunday (September 15) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

As he walked out on stage with Matt Bomer, “I Don’t Want to Wait” by Paula Cole, aka the theme song to Dawson’s Creek, started playing in the background.

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards just aired on ABC, and things went about as expected. In other words, the excellent historical drama Shōgun won Best Drama Series; the caustic slice-of-life series The Bear won Best Comedy Series, since I guess it's a little more like a comedy than Shōgun; and the autobiographical stalker drama Baby Reindeer won Best Limited or Anthology Series.

Those three were the big winners of the night, with them each taking home four awards. Jeremy Allen White won Best Actor In A Comedy Series as expected, and his costar Ebon Moss-Bachrach won Best Supporting Actor. On the drama side, Hiroyuki Sanada won Best Actor and Anna Sawai won Best Actress; she was the one I was really invested in. She was magnificent as Mariko and if she hadn't won I would have been forced to write a strongly worded letter to whoever votes in these things.

FX’s Shogun and The Bear dominated the 76th Emmys in Los Angeles on Sunday night as they finished with 18 and 11 wins apiece, including last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards, despite an upset in the comedy series category where HBO/Max’s Hacks was the surprise winner.

Shogun was named best dramatic series and took home both lead acting wins for Hiroyuku Sanada and Anna Sawai, who became the first actress of Asian descent to win the category. The show itself became the first mostly not in the English language to win the series award.

Only eight months after the last Emmy ceremony (which was delayed due to the strikes), the Primetime Emmy Awards are back, although there were some big surprises in store. Everyone (myself included) expected The Bear to own every category it was nominated in. While it did well, winning many big categories including Best Actor in a Comedy Series, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress, it lost Best Comedy Series (and actress) to Hacks.

Netflix’s controversial limited series Baby Reindeer also cleaned up, nabbing awards for star and creator Richard Gadd plus co-star Jessica Gunning. But, FX was the evening’s big winner, with their epic series, Shogun, dominating the drama categories, with the great Hiroyuki Sanada winning the prize for Best Actor, and Anna Sawai taking Best Actress, alongside the show’s Best Drama win. History was made at the 2024 Emmy Awards with one show becoming the most-awarded series in a single season!

Television’s biggest night was held on Sunday (September 15) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, though many awards were also handed out last weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony.

The FX series Shogun, which is streaming on Hulu, has won more awards for one single season of television than any other show in history. The series picked up 18 total wins for its first season, including Outstanding Drama Series and lead acting awards for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai.

Prolific writer, director and producer Greg Berlanti spoke of his personal journey and lifelong love of television when receiving the 2024 Governors Award at the Emmy Awards.

“I wanted to be a part of television even before I knew how that was possible,” the 52-year-old showrunner, one of the youngest individual recipients of the award, said in his emotional speech. “So many Gen X kids in the 70s and 80s, the one color TV our family could afford was on around the clock in our house, and I watched and loved all of it.”

Berlanti used that childhood experience as inspiration for his company Berlanti Production’s logo.

“There wasn’t a lot of gay characters on television back then, and I was a closeted gay kid, and it’s hard to describe how lonely that was at the time,” Berlanti continued. “There was no Internet to connect with other queer kids,...

Richard Gadd, creator and star of Netflix’s breakout hit Baby Reindeer, has won an Emmy for his starring turn in the stalker drama, based on his personal experiences.

Gadd’s win for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie was his second of three tonight, as he earlier won Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. In his second speech — watch it above — he acknowledged “a glaring omission” from his first of the night, taking time to pay tribute to his parents.

“They’re the best. We’ve had some trying times as a family, and they’ve been there for me, a constant source of love and support,” said Gadd. “The thing I’m most grateful for is they never, ever told me what I needed to do with my life, and they never, ever told me who I needed to be. I...

Gadd kicked off his acceptance speech by saying he didn’t prepare any remarks because he didn’t think he’d win in a category against Fellow Travelers’ Matt Bomer, Fargo‘s Jon Hamm, Feud: Capote vs. the Swans‘ Tom Hollander and Ripley‘s Andrew Scott.

“Jon Hamm, I’m your biggest fan, as I told you for ages last night, over and over again, but like, this is not the world,” he said, before thanking the people he forgot to thank when he accepted for best writing for a comedy series earlier in the night, including his parents.

“I’d like to thank my mom and dad — a glaring omission from the previous one as well,” he noted. “They’ve been there for me, a constant source of love and support.

Jessica Gunning took home the award for best supporting actress in a limited series, anthology or TV movie for her role in Baby Reindeer at the 2024 Emmys.

“I honestly feel like I’m going to wake up any minute now this whole thing has been a dream,” she began her acceptance speech. “I’m so incredibly proud to be part of Baby Reindeer. So, I just would love to say a huge thank you to everybody who let me, really.”

Gunning also took a moment to praise the show’s creator and star, Richard Gadd.

“My biggest thanks has to go to, Mr. Richard Gadd. I’ve tried so many times to put into words what working on Baby Reindeer meant to me, and I fail every time. So I’m going to sing,” she joked, before adding, “I’ll keep it simple and just say thank you for trusting me to be your Martha.

Jeremy Allen White took home the award for best actor in a comedy series for his role in The Bear for the second year in a row at the 2024 Emmys.

“Thank you so much,” the two-time Emmy winner began his speech. “My heart is just beating right out of its chest. Thank you. Thank you to the Academy, my fellow nominees. I’m so honored to be in your company.”

The actor was up against What We Do in the Shadows’ Matt Berry, Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s Larry David, Only Murders in the Building‘s Steve Martin and Martin Short and Reservation Dogs‘ D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai.

White thanked The Bear creator Christopher Storer for choosing him to lead the hit FX show, adding that he is so grateful and lucky, before specifically calling out his co-stars.
