The streaming service announced Monday it would launch 10 new movies, including family comedies, yuletide romances, and a little musical magic.

The flicks feature Jasmine Guy, Terrence Carson, and Dorien Wilson, Ne-Yo, Serayah, Romeo Miller, LeToya Luckett, and Lala Milan.

The fate of Leah Franklin Dupont may remain unsolved after Fox canceled freshman drama Our Kind of People.

The series, which was created by Karin Gist and Wendy Calhoun with Lee Daniels as exec producer, was given a 12-episode run when it was greenlit in March 2021 under Fox’s straight-to-series model. It evoked comparisons to the Lee-co-created Empire, which had a very successful run on the network but linear ratings were soft.

Franchise fever has come to fruition this fall. A surprisingly solid launch for the 2021-22 season for the broadcast networks has yielded two series renewals so far and even more important, signs of life in primetime. Series launches with built-in franchises have performed well, but viewers are also checking out wholly original concepts.

CBS has given full-season orders to freshman dramas “NCIS: Hawai’i” and “FBI: International” after both shows won their respective time slots in their first week on air in Nielsen live-plus-7 ratings. The Sept. 20 fall season launch week was a predictably busy period, seeing a bevy of dramas, comedies and game shows drop debuts, as well as the return of a couple of familiar titles.

Per Nielsen, “NCIS: Hawai’i” won its 10 p.m. Monday time slot in viewers, averaging 9.3 million thus far, and it has improved the network’s performance in the slot by a whopping 381% from the same period last year.

Did you bring your scorecard, honey? Because Our Kind of People throws so much shade and clapback that you probably lost count of who had the upper hand.

Angela (Yaya DeCosta) and them weren’t playing the dozens when Karin Gist and Lee Daniels’ rich-and-wicked drama premiered Tuesday on Fox, but they might as well have been. There were so many people putting other people in their place, it felt like a Real Housewives dramatization.

Yaya DaCosta addressed her shocking departure from NBC’s Chicago Med after six seasons and whether or not her role in Fox’s Our Kind of People from executive producer Lee Daniels played a role in her decision.

“My exit from Chicago Med and the arrival of this show happened really simultaneously. There isn’t much to say about it. There was a window opening and a question mark as to whether I should stay or go,” said DaCosta during the show’s TCA panel on Wednesday. “And in that window, I fell in love with Our Kind of People and I jumped at the opportunity to work with Lee Daniels again. The word “sisterhood” takes on a different meaning in the latest teaser for Lee Daniels’ soapy new Fox offering Our Kind of People.

In the promo, outsider Angela Vaughn (played by Chicago Med‘s Yaya DaCosta) attempts to infiltrate the Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, a historical enclave where for more than 50 years the Black elite have flaunted their wealth and power while vacationing.

"We're all here because we're not all there." Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for a VOD film titled Killers Anonymous, an action thriller about a support group for killers. Yep, this is a play on "Alcoholics Anonymous" but for killers, and it's as dumb of a concept as it sounds written out here. Remarkably, the cast for this film is lead by some major names: Oscar winner Gary Oldman, along with Jessica Alba, Suki Waterhouse, Tommy Flanagan, MyAnna Buring, Michael Socha, Tim McInnerny, Sadie Frost, Rhyon Nicole Brown, and Sam Hazeldine. As expected, this group gets into trouble. "When new truths are discovered, secret alliances and betrayals emerge as the session explodes into violence and chaos." This looks like a disaster, which isn't any surprise, but still I don't get how these films keep getting made. Enjoy. A couple weeks ago, Fox announced that the Empire TV show had been renewed for a sixth season for the 2019-20 season. Today, the network announced that that will be the end for the music drama. There won't be a seventh season of what was once Fox's biggest series.

Empire stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Bryshere Y. Gray, Jussie Smollett, Trai Byers, Gabourey Sidibe, Ta'Rhonda Jones, Serayah, Andre Royo, Rhyon Nicole Brown, and Nicole Ari Parker. The series revolves around the Empire Entertainment company, founder Lucious Lyon (Howard), his three sons, and their mother, Cookie (Henson). The Lyons lost the company in season four and season five saw the clan still trying to reclaim Empire two years later.

Season six will see Empire return to its original Tuesday timeslot and the drama will surpass the 100 episode mark.

Rhyon Nicole Brown, who recurred in Season 4 of Empire, has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming fifth season of Fox’s hit musical family drama. In addition, Katlynn Simone and A.Z. Kelsey have joined in recurring roles.

Brown plays Maya, daughter of Cookie’s fellow inmate Poundcake. When Cookie finds her this season Maya has spiraled a bit after discovering her true parentage. Cookie has to step in and be a mother figure to her, helping her find her way. Brown appeared in two episodes in Season 4.

Simone will play Treasure, a prison social worker whose life is turned around by Cookie when she sees her star potential. Kelsey will portray Jeff Kingsley, a hotshot, Silicon Valley genius, turned label executive; business wunderkind. Ivy League with an edge and a dark secret.
