Presented by Paramount Scares, Friday the 13th Week sees Bloody Disgusting heading to Camp Crystal Lake for a series of features that celebrate the Voorhees family and their influence. Yesterday, Rachel Reeves highlighted other camp-adjacent scares. Today, Luiz H.C. takes inventory of all the horror movie fans in horror similar to franchise hero Tommy Jarvis.
Writers may come up with nightmares and directors bring them to life, but everyone knows that it’s the horror fans that really keep the genre going. That’s why it’s always refreshing to see scary movies show some appreciation towards the community, like that time Jason Voorhees was (rather brutally) defeated by a young monster movie enthusiast played by Corey Feldman, aka Tommy Jarvis.
In light of the 40th anniversary for both Jarvis and Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter, we’ve come up with a list celebrating six other badass horror fans in horror movies.

Earlier today, we took a look back the Wes Craven-directed 2005 thriller Red Eye… so we figured, why not follow that up by taking a look at a remake of a Craven horror film that was released the year after Red Eye reached theatres? The movie we’re taking about is the 2006 version of The Hills Have Eyes (watch it Here), a remake of Craven’s 1977 classic. It’s time for this one to be revisited, and you can hear all about it in the embed above.
While the original film was written and directed by Craven, Alexandre Aja directed the remake from a screenplay he wrote with Grégory Levasseur. Here’s the synopsis: Bob Carter and his wife Ethel, along with five other members of the family, are heading for San Diego with their camper van. An accident strands them in the desert and while two of the men go for help,...

It’s almost time for a second emotional goodbye to one of comedy’s best characters: Sheldon Cooper.
Fans fell in love with the character of Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory, which ran for 12 years and starred Jim Parsons. In the spinoff prequel Young Sheldon, Parsons passed down the torch to Iain Armitage. However, Parsons still narrates the series as adult Sheldon and executive produces.
Young Sheldon allows audiences to travel back to Sheldon’s childhood in East Texas, truly giving us the opportunity to meet his family in a way that we hadn’t with their appearances on The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon wouldn’t be who he is without Mary (Zoe Perry), George Sr. (Lance Barber), Missy (Raegan Revord), Georgie (Montana Jordan), and his Meemaw (Annie Potts).
Let’s be honest, the show is just as fun as The Big Bang Theory was, albeit in a different...

Is Young Sheldon setting George Cooper up to fail?
Whereas The Big Bang Theory painted Sheldon’s father as a drunken halfwit who betrayed his family, the spinoff has cast the patriarch in a much kinder light, as a flawed but well-meaning head of household who always has his children’s best interests at heart.

It’s the Sheldon Cooper origin story we didn’t know we needed — and one we certainly never expected to receive.
During Young Sheldon Season 5, Episode 6, “Money Laundering and a Cascade of Hormones,” Adult Sheldon (voiced by Jim Parsons) revealed why he’s always referred to sex as “coitus” on The Big Bang Theory. It all started when twin sister Missy began asking some “uncomfortable questions” at church, which prompted youth pastor Rob (played by recurring guest star Dan Byrd) to suggest to Mary and Pastor Jeff that they talk to the Sunday School kids about the birds and the bees.

Along the way, Olive becomes closer with her longtime crush, the school's mascot "Woodchuck" Todd (played by Penn Badgley). Seth MacFarlane is reviving the age old rivalry between jocks and nerds. The comedic actor is developing a reboot of the seminal ’80s comedy “Revenge of the Nerds” at 20th Century Studios.
Keith and Kenny Lucas, identical twin brothers best known for their scene-stealing roles in “22 Jump Street,” are set to write and star in the film. They are co-writing the script with Alex Rubens. MacFarlane will produce the reboot through his production company Fuzzy Door, along with Erica Huggins, who brought the project to the Lucas brothers and is spearheading development.
The upcoming version won’t be a remake of the 1984 comedy, which hasn’t aged all that well and has been criticized in recent years for depictions of rape. Instead, the contemporary reimagining will pontificate about today’s nerd culture and what even constitutes a geek in the 21st century.

Despite the fact Jessica Rothe was heavily promoted as one of the leading ladies of Gillian Flynn’s “Utopia,” her character, Samantha, was shot and killed by Jessica Hyde (Sasha Lane) at the end of Episode 2, leaving behind Becky (Ashleigh Lathrop), Wilson Wilson (Desmin Borges) and Ian (Dan Byrd) to follow the crazed woman who just murdered their friend.
So why did Flynn kill off Sam, the girl who knows the most about the “Utopia” comic book conspiracy, the leader of the pack, and an all-around good person who was just trying to help?
Well, for starters, Sam was born just to die.
“I will say that Sam is a character that I created, she wasn’t in the original [British series ‘Utopia,’ which was created by Dennis Kelly] and she was created largely to die, despite the actress, Jessica Rothe, being so,...

The Season 1 finale of Gillian Flynn’s “Utopia” gave fans many questions to ponder while we await a Season 2 renewal from Amazon, including what the heck is Wilson Wilson (Desmin Borges) doing in a car with freakin’ Kevin Christie (John Cusack) and why did he trick Becky (Ashleigh Lathrop) into joining them?
“I see it as a betrayal, for sure,” Lathrop told TheWrap. “Wilson and Becky have a really interesting relationship and, unfortunately, some scenes got cut. There was a whole other side storyline for one of the things, but one of the biggest things between the two of them is that they kind of are friends — but also have a contentious relationship. Like, Wilson doesn’t trust Becky and thinks that she’s [part of Christie’s team] Harvest and has all these suspicions about her. So I think when Becky gets in...

Gillian Flynn’s “Utopia” launched Friday, introducing us to Dr. Michael Stearns (Rainn Wilson) and Dr. Kevin Christie (John Cusack), two men who could not have more different approaches to living their lives in this crowded world, as Christie believes “how much evil do you have to do to do good?” is a valid question to ask and Stearns’ answer is a hard “none evil.”
By the end of the first season of the Amazon Prime Video thriller series, we learn that Christie, a.k.a. Mr. Rabbit, has been pulling the strings of Stearns’ life for years, using him and the flu he discovered (the Stearns Flu) as an excuse to create a “vaccine” that is embedded with a “world-changing” omnivirus that will sterilize all of the humans who are given it. This is Christie’s “cure” for overpopulation.

A strange virus is causing fatalities throughout Middle America. A group of folks who’ve been chatting online for some time think there’s some bigger, deep-state conspiracy behind it all; they’ve found a series of documents that they believe possess clues as to the nefarious forces behind not just this pandemic, but a host of other so-called “natural disasters” and catastrophes. Meanwhile, protesters are storming the streets and demanding answers, while a rich, morally suspect authority figure — and his equally dubious adult son — promise a miracle vaccine any minute now.

In the absence of trustworthy institutions and the constant simmering resentment pulsing through politics and culture alike, the concept of some vast conspiracy tying all the disparate threads together must be, in its own twisted way, a comfort. When life feels particularly scattered, and faith in brighter days has dimmed, the idea that there are definitive answers out there just waiting to be discovered — no matter how wild they are — is all too tempting as an escape hatch from reality. But in Gillian Flynn’s “Utopia,” the conspiracy theorists are the ones living in reality. Everyone else just trying to go about their lives is just biding their time before the cataclysmic end.

Gillian Flynn’s new show Utopia has been in the works since roughly the time her 6-year-old daughter was conceived. The girl is affectionately known as “Kick” — after what she used to do in the womb while the author was working away on the TV series.
“She could go feral very quickly, and I say that with all affection,” the bestselling thriller writer-turned-showrunner tells Rolling Stone. “There’s an instinct to tame [children], I think, and I try to resist that. Girls especially need that particular skill set of fierceness — the willingness to push back.

Utopia subverts what we know about geek culture and uses it against its characters in a dangerous game that changes the world. Amazon Prime Video’s American remake of brief-but-beloved British television series Utopia is readying a premiere on the platform this fall—specifically September 25, as the newest trailer for the show has finally announced.
The long-gestated series (originally planned back in 2015 for HBO by David Fincher), involves a group of fans whose obsession with a prophetic graphic novel about biological warfare thrusts them in the middle of a real-life conspiracy involving a pandemic. Now, by some cosmic coincidence, Utopia is set to arrive during a time in which such a plot proved shockingly prescient. Compounding the weirdness, the series showcases a comedically-leaning adventure.
With that in mind, do check out the new trailer for Amazon’s Utopia just below.
Indeed, the trailer in question expands upon the show’s parallels to our own global health crisis, revealing how a disease, called Stern’s Flu, rapidly escalates to pandemic status. Yet, as...

A comic book story contains a web of real-life conspiracies in the new trailer for Utopia, set to premiere September 25th on Amazon Prime Video.
Created by acclaimed writer Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl, Sharp Objects), the series centers around a comic book called Utopia and a select group of fans who believe there are hidden messages contained in the pages that predict actual events. In a chilling — although certainly unintended — parallel to this real-life moment, the superfans find themselves confronting a deadly pandemic that the Utopia comic says will lead to humanity’s downfall.

‘Utopia’ Trailer Finds John Cusack, Rainn Wilson on Different Sides of a Pandemic Conspiracy (Video)
It’s the end of the world as we know it in Amazon’s newly released “Utopia” trailer — but it doesn’t look like anyone feels fine about the situation.
In the trailer, you’ll meet John Cusack’s Dr. Kevin Christie and Rainn Wilson’s Dr. Michael Stearns, two great minds on two very different sides of a pandemic conspiracy. While Dr. Stearns appears to be doing all he can to contain the threat to humanity, Dr. Christie seems to have a sinister plan up his sleeve.
Amazon Prime Video dropped the clip, which you can view above, Tuesday, when it was also revealed the eight-part conspiracy thriller series from “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn will premiere Sept. 25.

Another harrowing pandemic is headed our way this fall — but this one, fortunately, is fictional.
Amazon announced Tuesday that its conspiracy thriller Utopia will drop on Friday, Sept. 25. Based on the British series of the same name, the eight-episode project follows five fans of a (seemingly) fictional comic called Utopia.

Showrunner Gillian Flynn revealed in today’s virtual TCA session that she is taking her version of Amazon’s Utopia in a slightly different direction from the British original. The Dennis Kelly-written counterpart received many complaints of brutality and adult content. When asked how Flynn felt about depicting violence, she replied that it would not be a big focus for the American series.
“I’m more ‘less is more’ as far as violence goes,” she said. “I’m the person who loves that moment in Rosemary’s Baby where we’re only seeing part of the conversation whereas the whole audience is trying to look around the corner to see what’s happening, or obviously Jaws. I’m a big believer in that. I don’t want it for a cartoon effect or for shock value. I think we as an audience are past most of that as pure shock value.

Amazon’s upcoming series “Utopia” may hit a little close to home with its pandemic storyline, but the show’s cast promises it won’t remind you too much of the current state of the world.
“When we started it the pandemic wasn’t happening,” star John Cusack said during a Television Critics Association panel on Thursday. “But the themes of these people who were obsessed with utopia, who know within utopia lies a secret to a dystopic or apocalyptic future that included viruses, it included famine, perhaps nuclear accidents — so the theme itself covered a lot of that, but it was kind of disturbing and surreal to see it come so close to life with the pandemic.”
