Plum tells the story of Peter “Plum” Lum, a legendary retired rugby league player from Cronulla, Australia. Plum was once a local hero, winning championships with the local Cronulla Sharks team. But years have passed since then, and now Plum is struggling with troubling symptoms. He experiences memory loss, blurred vision, and disturbing hallucinations—all potential results of the head injuries he sustained during his playing career.
Plum seems to be suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or Cte, a degenerative brain condition linked to repeated blows to the head. Like many athletes before him, Plum must now face the unwelcome realization that the very sport he excelled at may be causing his current struggles. To make matters worse, Plum’s symptoms are straining his relationships and challenging his sense of identity. Who is he if not a proud rugby champion?
Through it all, Plum leans on those close to him,...

Los Angeles, March 25 (Ians) Hollywood actress Kate Winslet and her ‘Titanic’ director James Cameron re-teamed for ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’.
In a clip from the featurette ‘New Characters of Pandora’ – available on the digital release – Winslet discussed returning to the water, how she really didn’t have a choice about taking the part of Ronal, and how she helped shape the character.
When Winslet told her kids that Cameron had sent her the Avatar script, they didn’t give her much of a choice about taking the part. But the “added water element” might have really sealed the deal for her, reports ‘Entertainment Weekly’.
“I am a water person,” Winslet said, “All ‘Titanic’ jokes aside”. ‘The New Characters of Pandora’ featurette introduces important new characters in the Avatar saga played by Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, and Jemaine Clement.

With the latest news about "Avatar 3" rolling in, it seems as if James Cameron is on a mission to take the concept of space whales away from "Star Wars Rebels" creator Dave Filoni and carve out a special sci-fi niche of his very own. In the animated show "Rebels," the space whales, called purrgil, are literally whales that can travel through hyperspace. In "Avatar: The Way of Water," the whale-like tulkun are sea-faring creatures that happen to be on a distant planet. Not the same thing.
Still, the tulkun do share a spiritual connection with the Na'vi race, in a similar fashion as the connection that characters and creatures have through the force in "Star Wars." With the phenomenal success of "Avatar: The Way of Water," Cameron finally has his own version of "Star Wars" that will allow him and his incredible creative team to continue to build out...

James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is still making waves at the box office after shooting the curl to 1.17 billion worldwide. With so many dollars to its name, Avatar: The Way of Water is the third-highest-grossing film of the pandemic era, treading water behind Spider-Man: No Way Home (1.9 billion) and Top Gun: Maverick (1.5 billion).
Cameron’s splashy sequel experienced another monster Wednesday at the box office with 20 million in domestic dollars. After doing some math, that brings the film’s Stateside total to 358 million. Additionally, the film brought in another 47.9 million in domestic earnings, cranking the international count to 810.6 million.
Still, Avatar: The Way of Water needs to earn more money if it’s going to make its production budget back and then some. Analysts say the movie needs to breach around 1.4 billion to break even. Thankfully, if Avatar 2 keeps raking in dollars like so many leaf piles prime for jumping,...

“Avatar: The Way of Water” not only expands the scope of Pandora’s ecological systems, it also depicts a renewed, vengeful human military with a bounty of deadly, new tools at its disposal. Between devising the culture of two warring civilizations, production designers Ben Procter and Dylan Cole had their work cut out for them on James Cameron’s science-fiction sequel. The pair worked as concept art directors on the first “Avatar” before moving into their new roles for the film’s follow-ups — all the way back in the fall of 2013.
“It’s good that the movie is out because now my family will actually believe I’ve been working on something instead of working for the CIA,” Procter laughs. “My son’s friends no longer think I’m a drug dealer.”

"Avatar: The Way of Water" wears its environmentalist heart on its sleeve, crafting a naturalistic world brimming with wondrous marine life. Extended sequences of intense underwater beauty serve as reminders that an entire world is bubbling just under the surface. And that world needs to be protected. The space whale mammals called the tulkun are hunted by hired guns employed by the evil Rda (Resources Development Administration) corporation and, as a result, are in jeopardy of becoming an endangered species. Director James Cameron is drawing a clear comparison to the whaling industry here on Earth that, once upon a time, became an important component of the Industrial Revolution. In Cameron's pro-nature sequel, the native tulkun are killed for a valuable element called amrita, a yellow substance found in the skulls of the species that apparently has the ability to stop human aging. Clearly, the tulkun and the oceans they call home need an ally.

This article contains Avatar: The Way of Water spoilers.
For our money, it’s the best action scene in a film stuffed to the gills with kaleidoscopic showstoppers. At the top of the third act, the luxuriantly paced Avatar: The Way of Water finally pivots away from its world-building wonders and back toward the plot. In the broadest possible strokes (which nonetheless remain depressingly plausible), it’s revealed that human capitalists have made a lucrative discovery: Pandora’s tulkuns (large whale-like creatures) contain a substance in their brains that is beneficial to the most wealthy of earthlings. The liquid therein apparently “just stops” aging.
Yeah, folks would kill for that. And in James Cameron’s long-awaited Avatar sequel, the folks who work for the Rda Corporation have been killing tulkun whales by the scores in order to obtain that precious fountain of youth elixir… that is until the tables are turned.

In James Cameron's 2009 film "Avatar," an evil corporate wonk appropriately named Parker Selfridge (Giovanni Ribisi) explains to Grace (Sigourney Weaver) that the distant planet of Pandora is a rich source of a rare mineral called unobtanium. The silly name was immediately tittered at by audiences, doubly so for people who had seen Jon Amiel's 2003 disaster film "The Core," which also featured a rare substance called unobtanium. Frustratingly, the actual makeup and function of this rare fictional ore was never explained. Selfridge definitely wanted it in great quantities, and was willing to commit genocide on the Pandora locals in order to get it, but audiences were never made privy as to why it was so coveted beyond its high monetary value.
Even more frustratingly, Selfridge has a line of dialogue later in the film explaining that the nearby deposit...

“Titanic” director James Cameron’s first venture to Pandora made way for the new sequel film “Avatar: The Way of Water” splashing into theaters this weekend. The first encounter with the beautiful, otherworldly planet of Pandora in 2009 introduced us to Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) who form a Pocahontas-like bond that leads to a romance crossing many lines on both sides of the uneasy rapport between their people. Jake comes to Pandora a paralyzed ex-marine who can no longer use his legs, excited to be able to walk again in the tall blue body of his Avatar. What starts out as an attempted conquest and of the Na’vi people turns into what Jake’s fellow soldiers see as a betrayal when he sides with the Na’vi and Neytiri to save their homeland from destruction and colonization.

"Avatar: The Way of Water" is James Cameron's magnum opus, a spectacle 13 years in the making. While at times it feels like an updated retread of 2009's "Avatar," the sequel contains more cinematic wonder and stronger effects, suggesting that it's the movie that Cameron really wanted to make over a decade ago. Familiarity aside, "The Way of Water" really is filmmaking at its most cinematic. Not to echo those theatrical ads before the feature, but if "Avatar: The Way of Water" is being watched on anything less than a stadium-sized screen, it isn't being watched the right way.
Your mileage may vary, of course — not unfamiliar territory for those familiar with Cameron's filmography — but "Avatar: The Way of Water" is every bit the groundbreaking achievement that audiences had hoped for. It's big, it's visceral, it's emotional, and it's a staggering technological achievement, a movie so indelible on the eyes...

James Cameron brought a little of Pandora — and a lot of his starry cast — to London for the “Avatar: The Way of Water” world premiere on Tuesday night. The long-promised, eagerly-awaited sequel has been 13 years in the making, and now it’s finally set to debut in cinemas in just a few days, a moment the director wasn’t always sure would come.
“I had a lot of doubt when the pandemic hit,” Cameron told Variety on the blue carpet in Leicester Square. “We got shut down for six months. We didn’t know if there were going to be any movie theaters left to release the movie into. But we’ve survived all that. The theaters are full again. It’s all back. We’re all sold out for the first few weeks. So yeah, pretty happy!”

Following the groundbreaking release of “Avatar” in 2009, James Cameron’s epic sci-fi franchise about a humanoid species called the Na’vi is finally back with the first of several sequels. After a 13-year gap, the saga will pick up with “Avatar: The Way of Water” in December before continuing on with what are currently being dubbed “Avatar 3”, “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5” in 2024, 2026 and 2028, respectively.
Stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver and others look back on the original while teasing what’s to come as “The Way of Water” picks up on their story over a decade later.
“It’s been about 10 years,” Weaver tells Et of the time she’s committed to the franchise since starring in the first one. “And then, in the meantime, Jim Cameron has written four amazing stories about what is now a family, the Sully family. And so, the stakes are higher. There are more amazing characters.

A small Avatar 2 crew is heading back to New Zealand to complete filming on the first sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 box office smash. They will reportedly enter a two-week quarantine period before production restarts on the long-in-gestation movie.
Producer Jon Landau confirmed the move in a new interview with Rnz, where he explained that the country’s excellent response to the Covid-19 pandemic has allowed work on Avatar 2 to resume more quickly than on other projects.
“We feel very comfortable because of the actions of [the Nz] government and also the responsibility the people took to really curb the virus there,” he said. “So we feel we’re coming back to the safest place in the world possible thanks to a team of people that we’ve worked with. We believe we have a very thoughtful, detailed and diligent safety plan that will keep everybody as safe as possible in these unprecedented times.

Terry Norris and Benedict Hardie in ‘Judy & Punch.’
After portraying a succession of dastardly or less than noble characters in films and TV series, Benedict Hardie welcomed the chance to play someone with at least a few redeeming qualities in Judy & Punch.
In Mirrah Foulkes’ brutal, dark re-interpretation of the puppet play which opens in Australian cinemas on Thursday via Madman Entertainment, he plays Constable Derrick.
The lone cop in the wryly-named inland town of Seaside, Derrick struggles to maintain law and order as Damon Herriman’s narcissistic Punch causes mayhem after his much-abused wife Judy (Mia Wasikowska) vanishes.
“It was such a pleasure to make that film,” he tells If. “The script was like nothing any of us has read. Derrick becomes an emotional touchstone for the audience as an outsider looking at this mad world.

Alexander Bertrand in ‘Les Norton.’
After landing his first lead role in Roadshow Rough Diamond’s Australian Gangster, Alexander Bertrand set his sights on playing the title character in the same production house’s Les Norton.
That was no sure thing: Despite his performance as the Sydney crime figure in the upcoming Seven Network drama, the actor had to fight hard to win the Norton role in the ABC series based on Robert G. Barrett’s Australian novels set in the 1980s.
“There were five or six people up for the role, including a couple of heavyweight Hollywood names,” he tells If. “I had to do a couple of call backs.”
Jocelyn Moorhouse, who co-directed the 10-part series with Fadia Abboud, David Caesar and Morgan O’Neill, loved Australian Gangster and championed his cause.
“Jocelyn told me she put on the brass knuckles and went into bat for me,” he says.

Duncan Fellows and Alison Bell.
Fans of ABC TV’s The Letdown who enjoy watching Duncan Fellows as Jeremy, partner and foil of Alison Bell’s oft-stressed Audrey, can look forward to his next series Fam Time.
Fellows is playing John, aka ‘Handy Andy’, second husband of Michala Banas’ Belinda Box, matriarch of a dysfunctional blended family in the Seven Studios’ narrative comedy.
Created by Michael Horrocks and scripted by Erica Harrison and Jack Yabsley, the sitcom features Benson Jack Anthony as Belinda’s son Rylan, Karina Banno as her step-daughter Tahnee, Chloe De Los Santos as her adopted half-Filipino daughter Cherry, Rhonda Burchmore as grandma Viv and Tainui Tukiwaho as handyman Bill.
While everyone else in the family is obsessed with the online world, Handy Andy prefers fixing and inventing things, although he’s not very good at either.

Anthony Hayes will direct and co-star with Sam Worthington in Gold, a thriller about two guys who discover the world’s biggest gold nugget in the Australian desert.
Due to shoot in South Australia in September, the film will be produced by Deeper Water Films’ John and Michael Schwarz and Hayes’ Rogue Star Pictures.

Made on a measly $11,000, Joseph Sims-Dennett’s twitchy psychological thriller is poised on a knife edge between excellence and a cabin-fever B movie
For 11 days in January 2013, director Joseph Sims-Dennett holed up in an apartment in Rozelle, Sydney and spent $11,000 making his second feature film – roughly the same cost as the duck canapés and gougères served at a Hollywood premiere. Two years later he emerges with Observance: a twitchy, icky, genuinely unsettling psychological thriller about a private investigator who takes on what appears to be a simple, well-paying job.
From a derelict apartment across the street, all Parker (Lindsay Farris) is employed to do is spy on a woman and report daily updates over the phone to his employer (voiced by Brendan Cowell). Things aren’t as they seem, as these things often go, and Parker – traumatised by the recent death of his young son – spirals into confusion, delusion and possibly madness.
