Thomas "Tom" Curran, a cinematographer and filmmaker, passed away on August 20 in Los Angeles. Born in New York and raised between Alaska and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Tom developed a lifelong passion for the outdoors and adventure.
Tom's camera career began with adventure cinematography-- he filmed the Iditarod dog sledding race seven times for ABC which earned him an Emmy award. As a Director of Photography, Tom's expertise in documentary hand-held shooting took him to breathtaking locations worldwide and his credits include feature documentaries for HBO, reality shows for Netflix and adventure series for National Geographic. Tom also founded Curran Camera, an equipment rental business in Los Angeles, and he was committed to mentoring young filmmakers. He is survived by his wife, Karin, and their beloved daughter, Delaney, who was the center of his universe.
