- The son of a clergyman, Eldredge began his acting career with stock companies and in vaudeville, before moving on to Broadway. Under contract with Warner Brothers as a general purpose actor from 1934, he often appeared in ineffectual roles or as minor villains. From the early 1950s, he also had a busy career in television.
