- Troy Evans served with the 25th Infantry Division (2/22 mechanized) in Vietnam, 1968 and 1969.
- He appeared in the pilot episode of ER (1994) as Officer Frank Martin, then returned years later as a replacement for Jerry the desk clerk. Frank often talked to the doctors about his police career.
- In "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", Evans plays an irate police chief checking in a hotel during a convention in what was originally a non-speaking/background role. But as Evans had just had major hip surgery, he poured his physical pain into an ad-libbed irate rant towards the hotel clerk in the movie, and the director, Terry Gilliam, liked it so much that he included it in the film.

- He has played a member of law enforcement three times, the first two of which had the word "Man" as the final word of the title: The Lawnmower Man (1992), Demolition Man (1993), and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998). He also appeared as the state trooper who pulls over Steve Martin's bus in Leap of Faith (1992).
- He co-starred in "Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers" (1989) alongside Don Shanks, who played Michael Myers. Evans and Don Shanks were both Jim Carrey's co-stars. Don Shanks was a stunt performer in Dumb and Dumber(1994) and Troy was Roger Podactor in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" (1994). Troy also co-starred alongside Jeff Daniels in "My Favorite Martian" (1999); Daniels played Harry Dunne in "Dumb and Dumber" alongside Jim Carrey.
