Even if you haven’t seen Practical Magic — the 1998 fantasy film starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as cursed sister-witches — you know the “midnight margaritas” scene. It happens shortly after Gillian and Sally Owens (Kidman and Bullock, respectively) accidentally murder Gillian’s abusive boyfriend Jimmy Angelov (Goran Višnjić). They revive an even worse version of Angelov from the dead, kill him again with a frying pan, and frantically cover up their crime. You know, normal witch stuff.
But then things start looking up — at least briefly. The Owens’ aunts, played...

Fans are anxiously awaiting the premiere of the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds even though, once the season starts, it will be over far too soon. We've already gotten a glimpse of comedy with Captain Pike {Anson Mount] and some of his crew members being changed into Vulcans, and most recently, we saw a brief teaser from the first episode of the season that picks up with the Enterprise crew still battling the Gorn. But there is much more in store for us according to Henry Alonso Meyers who appeared with Ethan Peck, Akiva Goldsman, and Carol Kane at a panel at New York Comic Con. [via Gamerant]
When asked to describe the third season using only three words, Alonso Meyers' replied with "dancing, murder, and surprise." Now, we already know there's going to be a Hollywood murder mystery according to Jonathan Frakes who directed the episode and...

Science fiction has always been a genre meant to inspire and caution us in equal measure, and 2004's "I, Robot" is no exception. Taking place in the year 2035 in a future where self-driving cars are the norm, legions of robots have taken over menial tasks, and Converse All-Star sneakers are still as fresh as ever, director Alex Proyas' messy action movie was a solid hit upon release and has aged surprisingly well -- particularly as our own reality has taken larger and larger steps toward a similar status quo. One can easily imagine Will Smith's old-school cop Del Spooner looking at our own reality and stubbornly rolling his eyes at our own acceptance of and overreliance on AI. Sure, we're not quite at the level of technological advancement that Proyas and writers Jeff Vintar and Akiva Goldsman envisioned (to say nothing of famed author Isaac Asimov himself, who wrote...

In the movie industry, there are a couple of instances where actors struggle with film scenes with their co-stars for various reasons. And in some cases, actors are cast alongside animals, which also tends to have its own set of challenges based on how well-trained the critter is.
However, it was entirely a bed of roses for Will Smith back in 2007, when the icon had no choice but to spend his days on set with a dog named Abbey. Smith has dominated the industry for many years acting in movies and shows like Bad Boys, The Pursuit of Happiness, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

"Batman & Robin" was so panned for its campiness that Warner Bros. had no choice but to pivot to a dark and gritty reboot, resulting in Christopher Nolan's acclaimed "Dark Knight" trilogy. This is filmmaking mythology almost as well-known as Batman's own origin of alleyway orphaning. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige even calls "Batman & Robin" one of the most important superhero movies, for it taught studios that fans wouldn't settle for schlock. In hindsight, it's almost unbelievable that "Batman & Robin" and "Batman Begins" premiered only eight years apart; the Dark Knight's fall didn't last long!
There were abandoned plans for director Joel Schumacher to make a third Batman film, though. "Batman Unchained," to be penned by Mark Protosevich (rather than previous screenwriter Akiva Goldsman) was supposedly going to be "darker." The villains would've been Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow and Harley Quinn, which makes sense. At the time,...

Nineteen years after the release of the DC Comics adaptation Constantine (watch it Here), a sequel is finally moving ahead with director Francis Lawrence back at the helm and star Keanu Reeves reprising the role of occult expert John Constantine… but it’s moving ahead slowly, because it has already been a couple of years since this project was first announced. Now it has taken a big step forward, as executive producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed to ComicBook.com that the Constantine 2 script has been delivered. He just hasn’t read it yet.
The producer told ComicBook.com, “You know, (the script is) in my inbox right now. Funny enough, I’m too scared to read it, though. I want it to be good so bad. I probably read it in the next few days. When I get on an airplane.“

Gene Roddenberry’s sci-fi series Star Trek boldly went where no other show in the genre went. While the show explored multiple philosophical questions and featured multiple alien worlds, it differed from the usual dystopian sci-fi franchises in providing a positive outlook on the future of humankind.
Roddenberry was known to have many rules in the characterization of the show’s many crews, which usually drove writers crazy. However, one rule from Roddenberry on Jonathan Frakes’ William Riker reportedly did not last past the first season. Frakes mentioned that Roddenberry told him that Riker would not smile as much.

The spinoff series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has never shied away from experimenting with the genres specified in the show. While sci-fi is the main genre, the series’ concept lends itself to bringing various tropes of other narrative styles into the fold. The series has done a musical and has teased a murder mystery in the upcoming season.
The upcoming third season will also reportedly feature a connection to the original series. Showrunner Akiva Goldsman teased that the show had gone to places no other Star Trek had ever been. Considering that many of the original series’ characters appear in the show, it might not be a stretch.

Once set up at Netflix, Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy’s production company Intrepid Pictures now has an exclusive multiyear overall series deal with Amazon MGM Studios and one of the shows they’re working on for Prime Video is Flanagan’s dream project, a series adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower novels. Fans are anxiously waiting for updates on the status of that project – but when it moves forward, it won’t be the first time someone has attempted to make a TV series version of The Dark Tower for Prime Video. Five years ago, Glen Mazzara, Akiva Goldsman, and King himself developed a take on the material and a pilot episode was shot, with Stephen Hopkins directing and Sam Strike in the lead role of gunslinger Roland. For ten years, we as moviegoers were treated to both the rise and fall of the DC Extended Universe, or Decu for short (read our rankings here). The rise began with the release of Man of Steel in 2013, directed by Zack Snyder, marking the start of an ambitious plan to create a shared cinematic universe featuring iconic DC Comics characters. This was followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad which expanded the universe and introduced key characters. They were both met with less-than-stellar reviews. Over the years we would see success like Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam as well as James Gunn’s brilliant take on The Suicide Squad. There were also mixed-reviewed films like Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash (which we loved). The Dceu couldn’t compete with Marvel with tons of these movies failing to connect with critics and audiences.

The “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” cast stopped by Variety’s Studio, presented by Google TV, at the 2024 Comic-Con to discuss the critically acclaimed Paramount+ series.
Rebecca Romjin (Una Chin-Riley) and Ethan Peck (Spock) were joined by showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers to tease what fans can expect about the upcoming third season, including what genres they’re looking to tackle and Season 2’s cliffhanger ending.
“We have a bunch of ideas for the kinds of genres ‘Star Trek’ can accommodate. And we continue to try and stretch those boundaries,” Goldsman said. “We are trying to, dare I say, go where we have not gone before when it comes to genre. Besides the tried and true, which is some sci-fi adventure and certainly our attempt to remember the cadence of at least regularly, there must be a moral to the story. We’re spreading our wings,...

Fans left wanting more after 2007’s box office smash “I Am Legend” are in for a treat, as Warner Bros. has officially given the green light to a sequel that will see Will Smith reprising his iconic role as scientist Robert Neville nearly 15 years later. Even more exciting, the studio has tapped acclaimed director Steven Caple Jr. (“Creed II”) to helm the project, reuniting him with Michael B. Jordan, who sources say is currently in negotiations to join Smith in the lead cast.
Based on the seminal 1954 novel by Richard Matheson, the first film told Neville’s solitary struggle to find a cure in a New York City overrun by mysterious mutant creatures after a deadly virus wiped out most of humanity. While the 2007 adaptation took some liberties with the source material, it was a massive box office hit, grossing over $585 million worldwide and cementing Smith as an action star.

I Am Legend 2 is still in the works and the word on the street is it might have found its director. More on the story below.
I Am Legend 2 has been in the works for a good few years now and we’ve had a somewhat steady flow of news. We already know Will Smith is returning and will be joined by Michael B. Jordan and Akiva Goldsman is penning the script for the long overdue sequel.
Deadline now reports that Steven Caple Jr. is in talks with Warner Bros to helm the sequel. Deadline emphasises that it’s still early days, but there must be something to their story if they felt confident enough to run it.
Caple Jr. previously directed Creed II as well as Transformers: Rise of the Beast and if he does sign on to direct I Am Legend 2, it would be his second collaboration with Michael B.

Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever from 1995 has a darker director’s cut, and Warner Bros came close to officially releasing it.
We’ve known since 2021 that a director’s cut of Batman Forever exists. There was quite a lot of excitement about the 1995 film getting a recut release given that the rumour mill suggested we’d see something substantially darker than the theatrical version released almost 30 years ago.
The mood was pretty optimistic that it would happen too. Joel Schumacher, the film’s director, had just passed away at the age of 80 and the feeling was that releasing his cut of the film would be an apt tribute. Zack Synder’s cut of Justice League had also been released a couple of months earlier.
A feeling of momentum began to build, and the expectation was that the cut would be released. It never happened, though, and despite us (and many...

Get ready for a whole new take on I Am Legend! Rumors are swirling that Warner Bros. is looking to revive the post-apocalyptic horror hit from 2007 with a sequel. Even better, it looks like they’ve got some big names attached too.
Word on the street is Steven Caple Jr. may be sitting in the director’s chair. He recently had huge success with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Creed II, so he definitely knows how to get big action movies done right. If he signs on, it’ll be a reunion for him and star Michael B. Jordan too since they worked together on Creed II.
The script is already complete thanks to Akiva Goldsman. Both Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan have reviewed it so it must be good! Even cooler, this sequel won’t just rehash the original ending. Instead, it’s taking cues from the...

"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is shaking up its cast for season 3. Martin Quinn, who debuted as future Enterprise Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the season 2 finale "Hegemony," will be joining the main cast. (Quinn is the third actor to play Scotty after James Doohan and Simon Pegg.)
Irish actor Cillian O'Sullivan will also be part of the recurring cast as archaeologist Dr. Roger Korby. Trekkies will recognize that name from "The Original Series," specifically the season 1 episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" In that episode, Korby (Michael Strong) was Nurse Chapel's (Majel Barrett) long lost fiance. The backstory was that he'd gone missing in 2261 (five years before the episode took place) on the planet Exo III. The Enterprise travels to the planet to search for him but all is not well. Korby found the remains of a civilization that built androids in their image, and now wants...

One of the beans spilled at the Paramount+ Comic-Con panel by EP Akiva Goldsman was the possiblity of a Star Trek stage musical.
In regards to what part of the universe would get stage stoppers — that wasn’t really detailed. However, the stage musical is likely centered around the streaming series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Alex Kurtzman and Goldsman were asked by a fan if there would be more musical episodes ala episode 209 “Subspace Rhapsody” which repped the sci-fi franchise’s first ever music-fueled episode.
Goldsman answered, “We’re in the very early stages of figuring out whether we can bring a version of that to the stage.”
Rebecca Romijn, who plays Una Chin-Riley on Strange New Worlds, who was also on today’s panel, exclaimed, “Akiva, I can’t believe you just said that!”

When “Strange New Worlds” returns for Season 3 — expected some time in 2025 — Nurse Christine Chapel is headed for serious heartbreak, as Cillian O’Sullivan has joined the “Star Trek” prequel as original series character Dr. Roger Korby.

"Scary, absurd, inessential." That's how critic David Denby described director Renny Harlin's 1999 shark movie "Deep Blue Sea" in his review for The New Yorker. I think it's fair to say that history agrees with his first two points. That third point, however? That one has been challenged greatly as the film was a success in its day and has gained a much larger following in the years since its theatrical run. It's now a franchise with two direct-to-video sequels. More than that, one could easily make the argument that it's the second-best shark movie ever made, only behind Steven Spielgerg's all-time blockbuster classic "Jaws."

They’ve been talking about a second “I Am Legend” movie for what feels like forever. But it looks like things might finally be moving forward on the sequel to the hit 2007 post-apocalyptic thriller.
Word on the street is that Warner Bros. has their eye on Steven Caple Jr. to direct. You may remember him from “Creed II” or last year’s “Transformers” flick. Seems like the studio really liked how he balances intense action with characters you care about. Pretty important for a movie like this.
Of course, they’ll need more than just a director – and it looks like they’re putting together an awesome cast too. Will Smith has signed on to return as Dr. Robert Neville, the last man on earth. And he’ll be joined by Michael B. Jordan, who starred in Caple Jr.’s “Creed” movies.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has expressed an interest in snagging Steven Caple Jr. (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) to direct I Am Legend 2, which will star Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan. The outlet notes that it’s still in the early stages, and no deal has been drafted, but it would make for a fun reunion as Caple Jr. directed Jordan in Creed II.
Akiva Goldsman, who is writing and producing I Am Legend 2, recently said, “There will be some good news shortly” about the sequel. He wrote a second draft for the project after meeting with Smith and Jordan, and while he didn’t spill any story details, he did say, “The world returns in a way that is kind of spectacular — an exciting playground for all of us — not your father’s I Am Legend.“

Producer Roy Lee revealed on Thursday that Netflix is still in development on a Bioshock movie and the project should move forward with The Hunger Games franchise’s Francis Lawrence directing, even if the pic winds up being a bit smaller in scope than originally envisioned.
Speaking at Collider’s Producers on Producers panel, also featuring Akiva Goldsman and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Lee noted that the project entered development at Netflix at a time when the streamer was under a different film regime. This was the era of film chief Scott Stuber, who announced his departure from Netflix in January, with Dan Lin eventually coming in to take over his role, shifting the streamer away from producing an abundance of huge tentpole projects, in favor of more modestly budgeted efforts.

This was the era of film chief Scott Stuber, who announced his departure from Netflix in January, with Dan Lin eventually coming in to take over his role, shifting the streamer away from producing an abundance of huge tentpole projects, in favor of more modestly budgeted efforts.

Netflix’s film adaptation of the seminal video game “Bioshock” with director Francis Lawrence is being “reconfigured” to be a “more personal” film with a reduced budget, producer Roy Lee (“The Lego Movie”) revealed on Thursday during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
The adaptation was first announced Feb. 2022 as a partnership between Netflix and the game’s producers 2K and Take-Two Interactive. The first “Bioshock” game, released in 2007, is set in a vast underwater city called Rapture created in the desire to foster a utopia, but instead has fallen into chaos and violence. The game’s twist-filled narrative and vibrant philosophical worldview captured gamers imaginations; sequels followed in 2010 and 2013, and the series has sold more than 39 million copies worldwide.
Since that announcement, however, Dan Lin replaced Scott Stuber as Netflix’s film chief, and Lin has refocused the streamer’s movie strategy to a more relatively modest approach from...

What’s going on with I Am Legend 2? First announced in March 2022, it’s been all quiet however, scribe and producer Akiva Goldsman promised “there will be some good news shortly.”
The sequel has yet to set a director; Francis Lawrence directed the first which was a huge blockbuster earning over a half billion worldwide in 2007.
Wait, didn’t Will Smith’s character die at the end? “We’re sequelizing the alternative cut,” says Goldsman “Where Will lives and things don’t go well for humanity.”
The sequel will see Smith and Michael B. Jordan starring as well as their respective studios of Westbrook and Outlier Society producing at Warner Bros.
Goldsman updated that he got into a room with the duo to talk story off a first draft and that yielded a second draft.
“The world returns in a way that is kind of spectacular – an exciting playground...

“The relationship between the buyer and the studio has shifted — quite a bit,” exclaimed Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura today at Comic-Con.
The former Warner Bros Motion Picture studio boss was part of Collider’s Producers on Producing panel alongside Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman and Roy Lee.
By buyer, di Bonaventura meant studio.
“The producer’s job was to protect the studio, but they’ve become less and less trusting partners, and more judgmental of what we do,” he added.
“A producer’s job is to make a star, a director and a studio feel good.”
However, those priorities in recent years have changed per di Bonaventura due to “the largely corporatization (with studios). There’s a breakdown in the utter trust that you’re a producer.”
“The producer has traditionally been the first person in and last person out on a production; the guardians of the pic’s DNA,...
