Venom: The Last Dance may not have made as big a splash at the box office as the previous movies in the franchise, but the final part of Sony Pictures' trilogy is proving difficult to knock off the top spot.

The Last Dance took in $16.2 million from 3,905 North American theaters, which was enough to fend off competition from A24’s horror thriller Heretic and Lionsgate’s family friendly The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

The studio's latest Ssu movie - which sits at 41% on Rotten Tomatoes - has now grossed $279.4 million overseas and $394.2 million globally on a relatively modest budget of $120 million.

This might well be the last Venom movie, but a recent rumor claimed that Sony is developing an Agent Venom film.

In the comics, Agent Venom was Peter Parker's former bully turned friend Eugene "Flash" Thompson, who bonded with the Venom Symbiote after losing his legs in service of his country.

Love or hate Sony Pictures' Lethal Protector, Venom: The Last Dance will remain at #1 for a third weekend in a row heading into Veterans Day.

According to Deadline, the Marvel movie starring Tom Hardy is expected to earn $14 million this weekend after grossing an estimated $3.6 million on Friday. Of note is the fact this is the first time a Venom movie has remained in the top spot for three weekends.

While it's true The Last Dance is the only big movie in theaters (and that the threequel opened well behind Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage), it will be closing in on $113 million by Sunday and has been a much bigger hit overseas.

Tom Hardy’s star power and acting prowess keep Venom: The Last Dance minting money at the box office. The movie is finally set to reach its first major milestone at the box office in North America. Venom 3 is comparitively doing better in the international regions. The film’s collection on its 2nd Thursday is almost on par with its predecessor, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The movie is part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Eddie and Venom are still on the run after their fight with Carnage from the previous 2021 movie. Patrick Mulligan’s murder makes international headlines, with Eddie named as the prime suspect. Hence, he is forced to stay low-key and head to New York City to try and clear his name.

Venom: The Last Dance is a fun movie, but there's one moment which has left pretty much everyone scratching their heads.

The threequel establishes that Eddie Brock and Venom must not fully transform because doing so will activate their Codex and bring Knull's Xenophage immediately to their location. It's a major plot point.

Despite that, when the Lethal Protector is reunited with Mrs. Chen in Last Vegas, Venom fully transforms for an extended dance sequence which brings the Xenophage to their location, risks her life, and leads to them being captured by Imperium.

Venom: The Last Dance is about to enter its third weekend in theaters but will it remain at #1? Deadline believes the threequel is eyeing a $12 million haul, though A24's Hugh Grant-led Heretic could pose a problem for the Lethal Protector. 

While the studio is projecting an $8 million opening weekend, exhibitors believe it could make as much, if not more, than the latest Venom movie.

As we reported yesterday, Election Day was a good Tuesday for Venom: The Last Dance as it made an impressive $3.3 million, a 56% rise from Monday. With a running cume of $95.3 million, the movie will cross $100 million tomorrow. 

In other box office news, the expectation is that Moana 2 will exceed expectations when it opens over Thanksgiving weekend. As AMC CEO Adam Aron puts it, "Some people in the know are telling me that Moana 2 could eclipse and outshine even the success of Inside Out 2.

Marc Maron, Gaby Hoffmann and David Krumholtz have joined the cast of Jeremy Allen White’s Bruce Springsteen biopic “Deliver Me From Nowhere.”

Maron will play Chuck Plotkin, the music producer who mastered Springsteen’s “Nebraska” album, turning his unprocessed cassette demos into a high-quality record. Hoffmann will portray Springsteen’s mother, Adele Springsteen, a singer in her own right who died at age 98 earlier this year. Krumholtz will play Al Teller, a record label executive who oversaw the release of “Nebraska.”

From Disney’s 20th Century Studios, “Deliver Me From Nowhere” follows Springsteen during the creation of his 1982 album “Nebraska,” a stripped-down record that marked a creative shift from the anthemic “Born to Run” and “The River.” The movie is currently filming in New Jersey and New York. Springsteen, who is involved in the making of the film, visited the set earlier this week and was photographed hugging White.

As we first told you earlier today, those looking to escape the U.S. Election drama flocked to theaters yesterday evening to take advantage of discounted ticket prices. 

That was very good news for Sony Pictures' Venom: The Last Dance as the threequel grossed an impressive $3.4 million during its second Tuesday. That's a record-breaking 26.8% decline; Venom dropped by -54.6% ($3.7 million) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage by -61% ($2.5 million).

With a $95.3 million haul in North America, Venom: The Last Dance is eyeing a domestic box office run of $150 million. While it's likely to end its run with less than its predecessors, the movie - made for a modest $120 million - should turn a tidy profit. 

With rumours swirling about an Agent Venom movie (you can learn more about the character here), Sony is bound to find a way to continue this franchise...with or without Tom Hardy.

As we write this, Donald Trump has declared victory and will be the next President of the United States. You've probably noticed that the news cycle has been a little slow this week with all eyes on the election, but Venom: The Last Dance might be the biggest winner when all is said and done.

According to Variety, theaters yesterday received a higher turnout than normal (and Tuesdays are already busy thanks to discounted tickets). While we don't yet have specific numbers, the Venom threequel is expected to receive a significant financial boost.

Sony Pictures has never released "Art of the Film" books for the Venom movies, a shame when we're sure there are heaps of awesome designs we've yet to see for both the title character and the likes of Carnage and She-Venom.

On the plus side, a couple of the artists who worked on Venom: The Last Dance have shared their work on ArtStation. Valentin Petrov posted a badass shot of the Lethal Protector riding a motorcycle through Area 51 as the Xenophage chased him down.

This was undoubtedly one of the Venom franchise's best action sequences and a fun callback to Eddie Brock's love of his bike in both the first movie and Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Sony Pictures made it clear that Venom: The Last Dance would be the final part of a trilogy, and while the movie did appear to wrap-up Eddie Brock and his Symbiote pal's story, we may now know how the studio is planning to keep the franchise going.

Venom: The Last Dance surprised box office experts last weekend by underperforming with a disappointing $51 million opening weekend.

The threequel had a better time of it overseas but was projected to plummet during its second weekend in North America with only $19 million. Instead, it's overperformed thanks to a solid $26.1 million; to put that number into context, this is a drop of only -48.8%, a result Sony Pictures must be overjoyed with.

Last week, Venom: The Last Dance was being compared to movies like The Marvels and The Flash, but those dipped by -78.1% and -72.5%, respectively, during their second weekends in theaters.

It's even beaten 2018's Venom (-64.7%) and 2021's Venom: Let There Be Carnage (-56.4%). Now, this movie has reached $90 million and is eying a North American run of $140 million - $150 million.

Regarding Venom: The Last Dance, we’ve previously discussed the challenges the film has faced since its release. Critics were harsh, while fans were more receptive. Although it has exceeded its initial budget, the domestic earnings remain low, leaving the film dependent on international markets for recovery.

According to Box Office Mojo, the film has grossed a total of $193,989,701, with $70,597,430 from the U.S. and $123,392,271 from international markets. While the numbers for this weekend are still pending, reports suggest that the film is performing well in Asia!

An Indian entertainment site, Koimoi, has reported that Venom: The Last Dance has crossed the $70 million mark at the Chinese box office, making it one of the top-performing comic book films in China. However, we advise taking this news with a grain of caution!

The critics panned it, the fans praised it, and while it has surpassed its initial budget, the domestic total is still very low and the film is relying on the international markets to save it.

Still, it's not a disastrous result by any means because this brings its domestic total to $82.9 million (the movie did better than expected this past week both on Tuesday and Halloween). 

In terms of competition, Venom: The Last Dance won't have much to contend with as Robert Zemeckis' Here is set to earn only $5 million for second place. While fans appear to have enjoyed Sony's latest Marvel movie more than critics, word of mouth hasn't been positive enough to help the Lethal Protector exceed expectations. 

We're still waiting on updated global numbers but, as of Friday, it was sitting at $184 million worldwide. It has a lot of work to do before reaching Venom ($856 million) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage...

A WWII drama with a buzzy cast might seem like typical generic awards fodder, but in the hands of a brilliant filmmaker like Steve McQueen, it can be so much more. Although there have been plenty of films about trying to stay alive during the war, we less often see one set on the homefront, and in many ways, seeing the horrors of war against a backdrop that is supposed to be comfortable like home makes what we see all the more horrifying.

Barry Keoghan is officially part of the “Peaky Blinders” gang.

Netflix revealed a first look at the “Saltburn” actor in the upcoming movie spinoff on social media on Friday. In the shot, he’s driving a truck while sporting a cap, leather jacket and a fresh cut on his face.

Despite the image of Keoghan, not much else is known about his character or what role he’ll play in the film.

Keoghan joins his fellow Irishman Cillian Murphy, who is returning as Tommy Shelby, in the movie. Other stars from the series reprising their roles include Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee and Ian Peck. Alongside Keoghan, another newcomer to the franchise is Jay Lycurgo, whose role is also undisclosed.

The Peaky Blinders movie continues to build buzz and here’s a first look of Saltburn star Barry Keoghan, who joins the cast for the feature.

Keoghan, who can be seen above looking very ‘peaky’ as he gazes out a truck window, is one of a host of new names for the upcoming movie, which rolled cameras in September. He has broken out in the past couple of years with a string of big roles including Saltburn, Masters of the Air and Top Boy. He was Oscar-nominated for Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin.

Keoghan joins the likes of Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson as new to Steven Knight’s franchise. Rejoining the cast are the likes of Cillian Murphy, Stephen Graham and Sophie Rundle, who played Ada, sister to Oscar-winner Murphy’s Birmingham clan leader Tommy Shelby. In the series finale, Tommy handed the reins of the family business to Ada.

By order of the Peaky Blinders — and Netflix — here is a first look at Barry Keoghan in the upcoming “Peaky Blinders” film.

The image, released Friday, shows the Oscar nominee leaning outside of a car window — and yes, he’s donning the trademark Peaky Blinders newsboy cap, so we can safely assume he’s part of Tommy Shelby’s (Cillian Murphy) gang. Keoghan joined the project in August. No details about his character have been released.

In September, Keoghan told Entertainment Weekly that he was “excited and nervous” to be part of “Peaky Blinders” and is a “massive, massive fan” of the show. “I can’t wait for that,” he said. “Cillian’s a good friend and I f—ing admire him as an actor as well.”

Sony Pictures has released a new TV spot for Venom: The Last Dance, and it gives us a first official look at the team of Symbiotes that assembles towards the end of the movie to battle the Xenophage.

Though some of these Symbiotes are named - Juno Temple's Doctor Payne becomes Agony, for example - others seem to be amalgamations of characters from the comics, or possibly brand-new creations. One does definitely seem to be based on Toxin, however, and the final two appear to be versions of Phage and Lasher.

20th Century Studios unveiled the first look of Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen in “Deliver Me from Nowhere” on Monday as production on the biopic gets underway.

While his face is partially obscured, the image shows the two-time Emmy winner wearing Springsteen’s signature flannel and biker jacket.

Written and directed by Scott Cooper, “Deliver Me from Nowhere” is adapted from Warren Zanes‘ book of the same name about the making of Springsteen’s seminal 1982 album “Nebraska.” Recorded on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s bedroom and without the E Street Band, the album’s solemn, contemplative tone was a departure from that of the musician’s previous work.

Filming will take place primarily in Springsteen’s native New Jersey and New York, with additional production in Los Angeles.

Slated for theaters in 2025, the film is written and directed by Scott Cooper and stars Jeremy Allen White as the visionary musician as he embarks on an emotional journey to record Nebraska.

Hacksaw Ridge (November 1)

Hacksaw Ridge is a biographical epic war drama film directed by Mel Gibson from a screenplay co-written by Robert Schenkkan and Andrew Knight. Based on the 2004 documentary The Conscientious Objector by Terry Benedict, the 2016 film follows the story of Desmond Doss, who joins the army after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour but refuses to handle weapons and engage in war instead he chooses to serve as a combat medic in the American army.

While we won't get final numbers until tomorrow, it appears Venom: The Last Dance is overperforming after making $50.8 million from 64 overseas locations through Friday.

The Sony Pictures threequel has underperformed in North America with a projected $52 million opening, a $13 million decline from its projected $65 million debut. However, thanks to those all-important international numbers, Venom: The Last Dance will still open to $180 million globally.

China has been a big help with a $22 million debut that should reach $45 million by close of business today. Chinese state media has reportedly given the movie a thumbs up, while Sony has boosted interest by tapping Chinese actor Jia Bing to voice Venom.

Ultimately, the studio being careful with its Venom: The Last Dance spend will help avoid this becoming another Joker: Folie à Deux. The production budget was only $120 million before marketing, so even if it ends its run well behind Venom and Venom: Let...

At this point, the Venom franchise is what it is. Ask most fans, and they'd say it should have picked up with Eddie Brock after clashing with Spider-Man for an R-Rated series of movies about him serving as San Francisco's Lethal Protector.

Sony Pictures wouldn't have needed to include Spidey in that, as Venom's origin story could have played out off-screen. Instead, the decision was made to put a new spin on the character, ditching Spider-Man altogether and telling a goofy, PG-13 buddy story about Eddie and his Symbiote.

Venom: The Last Dance is billed as Tom Hardy's final Venom movie, though rumours continue to swirl that he'll either be back for Spider-Man 4 or some sort of Sony-produced team-up project with Knull as the big bad.

As Venom: The Last Dance continues to devour the international box office, leading the franchise to $1.5 billion overall, star Tom Hardy and director Kelly Marcel confirmed that they always envisioned the Sony Marvel movies to conclude as a trilogy.

“We knew it would be three,” Marcel, who is credited as writer on all three films and helmed the final installment, told People. “We knew it was a trilogy and we knew it would end like this from the beginning.”

She continued, “Sony asked me to [direct] and I was like, ‘Oh, okay then.’ I have been on the first two movies and it felt like we knew that this was the third and final one, and knew that this one was going to be both a blast but emotional as well.”

Ever since Covid, predicting what a movie will make at the domestic box office has become increasingly difficult. Many expected hits have flopped, while plenty of titles have massively exceeded expectations.

In the case of Venom: The Last Dance, it looks set to fall somewhere in the middle despite Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage being surprise hits in 2018 and 2021, respectively.

Current estimations from Deadline point to a $21 million Friday (including $8.5 million from Thursday previews) for an opening weekend somewhere between $50 million - $55 million. That's a pretty noteworthy drop from those initial $65 million expectations.
