- Liam has worked as an actor, director and acting tutor since he began his training with Deirdre O'Connell at the Stanislavski Studio in the Focus Theatre Dublin in 1976.
As an actor he has worked with companies like the Abbey, the Lyric Belfast and in the UK with Cheek By Jowl, Birmingham Rep, Oxford Stage Company, Theatr Clwyd, Lyric Hammersmith, The Donmar and Greenwich Theatres. While in London he was lucky enough to work with internationally renowned directors like Declan Donnellan (writer of The Actor and the Target) on his Oliver Award production of Macbeth and with Phyllida Lloyd (director of the films Mamma Mia and The Iron Lady) on her production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
As a director he founded Quare Hawks Theatre Company in 2000 and was Artistic Director of Storytellers from 2004 to 2008. He has directed classics, compiled, adapted, devised and created verbatim pieces developing a particular interest in new writing.
Liam is a part time acting tutor with the Gaiety School of Acting where he introduces the full time course students to Shakespeare. He also contributes to the MA in Drama & Performance at UCD and to the BA (Hons) in Theatre & Drama Studies at CIT Cork School of Music.
He was Artist-in-Residence at Draíocht Arts Centre in 2012. Recent work includes Schiller's Mary Stuart in the Freemason's Hall, On City Water Hill by Philip St John at Theatre Upstairs, The Importance of Being Honest by Billie Traynor for Bewley's Café Theatre and The Belle Bottoms written by Eoin Colfer for the Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival. He has just finished Tenderfoot at the Civic Theatre which is an apprenticeship programme in Theatre for TY students funded by a Young Ensembles grant from the Arts Council.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Liam Halligan
- Nominated as Best Director by the Irish Times Theatre Awards for two productions 'Rashomon' for Storytellers Theatre Company and 'Speaking in Tongues' by Andrew Bovell for Quare Hawks Theatre Company, both productions did national tours of Ireland.
