- While at Cambridge Revue Club Footlights, he met Douglas Adams, who later cast him as the utterly ordinary Earthman Arthur Dent in his cult classic The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1981), both in the original 1978 radio series and the 1981 TV mini-series. The two were lifelong friends after college and Jones later spoke at Adams's funeral in May, 2001.
