In preparing for the music video "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", there was a small budget so Cyndi bought furniture and painted the sets for the living room and her bedroom, found a tablecloth with a pattern to copy for the kitchen walls so it would have a very 1950s look, handed out her collection of sunglasses to all the girls for the shoot, and shared her makeup with all the women.

Sang in dance cover bands in the 1970s until she lost her voice in 1977, when doctors told her she would never sing again.

(November 19, 1997) Son, with David Thornton, Declyn Wallace Thornton Lauper, named after singer Elvis Costello, whose real name is Declan Patrick MacManus.

Known for her outrageous antics, perhaps her wildest yet was appearing at a 1997 Halloween ball to raise money for AMFAR dressed as a belly dancer - when she was nine months pregnant. She drolly vogued it up for the tabloid paparazzi, who eagerly snapped hundreds of photos of her.

She was awarded a Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 1985 Grammy Awards.

She has Italian ancestry by her mother's side (Sicily) and Swiss ancestry by her father's side. Her mother's maiden name is Gallo.

She was awarded a Tony Award for Best Score in a Musical for "Kinky Boots" at the 2013 Tony Awards.

Patti LaBelle is her son Declyn's godmother and sang "Come What May" at Cyndi's wedding.

Her first band, Blue Angel, was named after the film "Der Blaue Engel (The Blue Angel)".

While working as a maid/nanny in the early 1970s, her dog Sparkle was run over by a tractor driven by a five-year-old on his birthday. The vet explained there would be hope if Sparkle lived through the night, and she eventually recovered.

She is a fan of professional wrestling and frequently casts pro wrestlers in her music videos.

Lives in a famous Manhattan apartment house on the West Side called the Apthorp.

Cyndi was born at Boulevard Hospital, in Astoria, Queens. She spent her first four years in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Her family then moved to Ozone Park, Queens.

(November 8, 2012) Her uncle, George Stathis, 90, was found dead in his Queens, New York home, after Hurricane Sandy.

When she was 12, Cyndi began writing songs and playing acoustic guitar, expressing herself with an eccentric variety of hair colors and clothing, taking a friend's advice to spell her name as "Cyndi" rather than "Cindy".

On Press Your Luck (1983), there was a Whammy based on her.

Her parents are Fred Lauper and Catrine Dominique. Her siblings are Elen and Fred. Sister Elen Lauper ran for the mayorship of Phoenix and is a member of the Socialist Workers Party, a radical-leftist political group.
