Ed O’Neill’s lack of Emmy awards for his role on Modern Family has been a hot topic of debate among fans. One particular scene from the show highlights why this oversight feels like a crime: O’Neill delivers an unforgettable performance that combines feelings, depth, and raw emotion in a way only he can.

Exclusive: Another classic 1990s comedy is making a comeback. An animated revival of Married… with Children headlined by the original series’ stars Katey Sagal, Ed O’Neill, Christina Applegate and David Faustino is being pitched to networks and streamers and is getting strong interest, sources tell Deadline.
The new take on the 1987 Fox sitcom is written by Family Guy executive producer Alex Carter, who serves as showrunner. Sony Pictures Television, which owns and distributes the original series, has been working on the animated project for over a year and closed deals with the quartet of Married… with Children stars before taking it out.
While it is unclear yet where the animated Married… with Children would land, Fox, Hulu and Peacock are considered logical destinations.

On April 5, 1987, there was something different about Los Angeles. The Hollywood sign, perhaps L.A.’s most identifiable landmark, had seemingly been erased off the hillside it’s resided upon for decades. In its place was a three-letter word that was easy to read from the city below as spotlights had been installed for maximum visibility: Fox.
Meanwhile, another longstanding staple of the entertainment industry was undergoing a change as well. CBS, ABC, and NBC, or the “Big Three,” were about to face a brand new ratings competitor. In an effort to drum up publicity for the debut of its primetime line-up, Fox Broadcasting Corp. had received permission to temporarily black out the iconic sign. For a few days, the world-famous photo op for tourists would instead read “Fox” instead of “Hollywood.”
Looking back on the marketing stunt, another word might have sufficed: “Bundy.”

It's been about 20 years since the Married… With Children sitcom ended, but Bud Bundy is all grown up and might just return for a spin-off series! I watched this show all the time when it was on the air and I thought it was the funniest show.
The series launched the careers of Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate, and David Faustino. The new series is being developed at Sony Pictures Television and it will center on Faustino's Bud Bundy character. There's no word on if the actor will be reprising his role in the new show, or if any of the other original cast members will be involved in the potential spin-off, but at this point there's a chance any of them could.

Jason Bateman scored his second career Emmy nomination this year for playing Michael Bluth on "Arrested Development," eight years after first being nominated for the role.
That's great and all -- but in a certain part of the pop-culture consciousness, he'll always be Matthew Burton.
You know, the lead character of "It's Your Move"? The one-season NBC sitcom from 1984-85?
Welcome to Before They Were Emmy Nominees. Each Tuesday and Wednesday between now and the Emmy Awards on Sept. 22, we're going to look back at some early and obscure roles of a few of this year's acting nominees. (See Zap2it's Before They Were Nominees photo gallery.)
"It's Your Move" came from Ron Leavitt and Michael G. Moye, the future creators of "Married ... With Children." Bateman's Matthew was a teenage prankster and scam artist who lived with his sister (Tricia Cast) and their mom (Caren Kaye). Matthew met his match...

Welcome to another edition of our upstart series, Mindhole Blowers, in which we troll the Internet and listen to DVD Commentaries to bring you what we hope is fascinating minutia. Typically, we look at movies (see our Mindhole Blowers columns on Cameron Crowe's Singles and Shane Black's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), but today -- with the release of Horrible Bosses on the horizon -- I thought we'd take a look at a person, the fascinating and ridiculously durable Jason Bateman.
Jason Bateman has been acting now in Hollywood for 29 years. In that career, there are only two roles that I can identify in which he didn't play a variation on his "Jason Bateman" character, which is to say: Sly, dry wit and a personality halfway between ridiculously charming and spectacularly douchy. Those two roles were his first, as a kid in "Little House on the Prarie" and a...

The Flying Monkey debates which has the bigger gay fanbase: True Blood or Glee? Also this week: Ant on playing a gay teenager at age 28, the greatness of Jonathan Groff, and more anti-gay 'tude on So You Think You Can Dance?
Have a question about gay male entertainment or life? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: What has the bigger gay fanbase: True Blood or Glee? – Lisa, Los Angeles, CA
A: Glee has more total viewers than True Blood – their last season finales drew 10.9 versus 5.1 million viewers, respectively – so it stands to reason that it probably has more gay viewers too.
But ratings may not tell the whole story. Just as in the greater culture, I think there might be something of a generational divide – with younger gay men probably tending to prefer Glee, and older folks maybe gravitating toward True Blood.

It's no secret that Katey Sagal has range. The actor played the big-haired Peggy Bundy on Fox's "Married With Children" for 11 years before segueing effortlessly into the role of one-eyed alien Leela on "Futurama." She's also made a few heartbreaking appearances on the ABC drama "Lost" as the woman who got away from John Locke. Still, even her biggest admirers were likely unprepared for her Machiavellian turn in the FX hit "Sons of Anarchy" as Gemma, a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang in Northern California. Manipulating her son and husband with moves that would make Lady Macbeth blush, Sagal makes for one bad mother. The actor had an edge in landing the job; the show was created by Kurt Sutter, a former writer-producer on "The Shield" and Sagal's husband of five years. But the part wasn't just handed to her. "It wasn't as easy as my husband saying, 'I've...
