It’s a good time to be a fan of filmmaker Mike Mendez. Not only did he contribute to the horror anthology Satanic Hispanics, which received a theatrical release a few months ago and is coming soon to Blu-ray, but now Synapse Films has given his awesome 2000 horror comedy The Convent (watch it Here) a limited edition 4K release! Copies of this release can be purchased directly from Synapse Films, or through Diabolik DVD.
Directed by Mendez from a screenplay by Chaton Anderson, The Convent has the following synopsis: In 1960, a young woman named Christine enters St. Francis Boarding School for Girls and lays waste to the resident nuns. Four decades later, a group of college students head to the long-abandoned building late one night to tag it with their fraternity letters, little knowing that rumors of the place being haunted are terrifyingly true. Produced by Sofia Coppola and directed by Andrew Durham, “Fairyland” is an adaptation of Alysia Abbott’s memoir of the same name. Throughout Durham’s directorial debut, audiences learn about the early days of gay liberation in San Francisco. If a crisis erupts on board a commercial aircraft, you want to know the flight attendants are prepared to handle any desperate situation. Chris, Wes, and Clear, the cabin crew in the comedic short Cock N’ Bull 3, are not those guys. They’re more likely to be the cause of an emergency than the ones resolving it.
Wes (Danny Rhodes) provides a running stream of non-faa approved commentary over the Pa system. Chris (Nathan Adloff) locks eyes with an older man within minutes of takeoff. Later, he tumbles out of the forward lavatory with his shirt off, apparently having just joined the Mile High Club with his gentleman friend. Clear (Pete Zias) declares, “I wanna get fucked in there!”
Things only get more chaotic on the ill-fated red eye from L.A. to New York, after the pilot mysteriously becomes incapacitated. Cock N’ Bull 3, directed by Adloff and co-written by Adloff and Rhodes,...

Drag isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. The lip syncing, the inside jokes – it’s easy to miss the point – but it also attracts hostility because of its unapologetic celebration of femininity in all its loudest and most lurid forms. Some view this as anti-woman; others hate it because they are anti-woman. It gives a voice to ways of being which women are encouraged to repress, but there’s a price to be paid for this. Femininity, wherever it is found, is a valuable commodity under capitalism, ripe for exploitation; and maintaining it is a drag of another kind.

God save the audience for “God Save the Queens,” a muddled drag artist-focused comedy with zero laughs that also features some implausible dramatic interludes.
“RuPaul’s Drag Race,” which popularized and mainstreamed drag for the masses, has now been running for 14 seasons; the show has become a sort of institution, still zealously watched and dissected by fans, but drag artists find themselves in an increasingly awkward position in the current landscape of heated debates on gender and sex. That awkwardness is sometimes the very tentative subject of “God Save the Queens,” which retreats into vague uplift whenever a truly serious side of this issue might emerge.
First-time writer-director Jordan Danger attempts to center the film on four struggling drag artists who are sent to a therapy retreat to work out their issues with each other, but this lame plot device kicks in about midway through the movie, and this sometimes makes...

This past Friday Miguel Ali’s indie film “Confessions of a Womanizer” was released in limited theaters for an Oscar-qualifying run. Now, one of its actors has made Academy Award history without being nominated.
Kelly Mantle, an actor who identifies as gender-fluid, is the first performer to have submitted and be considered for a nomination in both Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting actress categories.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, once Mantle was submitted in both male and female categories by the film’s creators, the Academy confirmed that he “can be nominated in either category.”

Kelly Mantle, a gender-fluid performer who was a contestant on the sixth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” has made Oscar history as the first potential nominee eligible in both male and female categories, TheWrap has learned. Mantle plays a transgender prostitute in “Confessions of a Womanizer,” a Miguel Ali indie from Harbor House Films starring Andrew Lawrence and Gary Busey. The film’s producers ran into a dilemma when filling out Oscar paperwork, which required them to classify Mantle, who was born a man, as either male or female. Mantle was submitted for consideration in both categories, and the Academy confirmed that.

RuPaul’s Drag Race kicked off its sixth season with seven contestants battling it out for six available spots in part one of the premiere.
Next week, the premiere will conclude with seven more contestants being put to the test, and finally in week three the surviving 12 will come together for the competition. The two-part premiere is not the only trick RuPaul had up her sleeve. Another big change this season is there will be absolutely no immunity from eliminations.

With Jinkx Monsoon's Season 5 win firmly a thing of the past, anticipation for Season 6 of "RuPaul's Drag Race" has reached near fever pitch. While Logo hasn't even announced a premiere date (though the new season will likely follow those that have come before it and bow late January, 2014), the show is rumored to be currently in production, causing a flurry of casting rumors.
A website called Buzzsauce claims to have determined which 12 drag queens will be gunning for the title in Season 6, utilizing the very scientific method of noting who has been quiet on social media. Below are the dozen names thought to be filming now, though be sure to take it all with a grain of salt.
1. Adriana Le Glam
It's noted that this fishy (meaning: very feminine) queen from NYC, while rumored to be on the show, has remained quite active on social media. So, there goes that whole process Buzzsauce used.
