Andrew Garfield Faces Backlash After Saying 'I Am a Gay Man Right Now Just Without the Physical Act'
Andrew Garfield has found himself in hot water with the Lgbtq community after saying, “I am a gay man right now, just without the physical act” — and revealing that he prepared for his new role as a gay man by watching RuPaul’s Drag Race with friends.
The 33-year-0ld actor is currently staring in the critically acclaimed London revival of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America, in which he plays Prior Walter — a gay man battling the reality of AIDS during the height of the 1980s crisis that killed hundreds of thousands in the gay community.
During a Nt Platform discussion on Monday, the Amazing Spider-Man alum talked about how he prepared for the role — admitting at first that his “big concern” was “what right did I have to play this wonderful gay role” as a man who currently identifies as straight.
“As far as I know, I am not a gay man,” Garfield, who formerly had a high-profile relationship with Emma Stone, began, the Gay Times reported. “Maybe I’ll have an awakening later in my life, which I’m sure will be wonderful and I’ll get to explore that part of the garden, but right now I’m secluded to my area, which is wonderful as well. I adore it.”...

Does a clue in Marvel’s latest video give us a hint about what’s going to happen to Thor in future Marvel films? Does a hammerless Thor indicate that Marvel Studios is going to use the comic storyline of “The Unworthy Thor” in the McU?
This week, Marvel Studios released an official video, which gave viewers a behind-the-scenes peek at the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. One interesting thing we see in this video is a piece of concept art that shows the Asgardian Avenger Thor and furry Guardian of the Galaxy Rocket Raccoon fighting together. The illustration shows us that the mighty Thor's choice in weapon in Infinity War is not his trusty hammer Mjolnir, but rather what seems to be the axe he used in his youth, called Jarnbjorn.
In the comics, Thor has been without his trademark hammer since 2014, in the “Original Sin” story arc, when...

There is nothing in Robert Kenner's "Merchants of Doubt," his follow-up documentary to 2008's fascinating expose of corporate malfeasance in the food sector, "Food Inc," that we disagree with, or even want to weakly rebut. Nothing. The fluidly argued points flow with flawless logic one into the other, and the manner in which he traces the strategies used currently by vested interests in defense of their bottom lines, straight back to the playbook set out by Big Tobacco in the 1950s, is irrefutable and wholly convincing, especially when presented in so enjoyably arch and ironic a manner. We vehemently agreed, laughed along at the more incredible and egregious fallacies highlighted, and felt every single other member of the audience at our Goteborg International Film Festival screening doing the same. And that's a problem. "Merchants of Doubt," inspired by the Naomi Oreskes and Eric M Conway non-fiction book of the same name,...

While Marvel’s comic book adaptations are a hot commodity just now, the cast of Marvel/Disney’s Avengers franchise are running out of movies on their contracts and have dropped hints that they are not going to play their respective hero characters beyond their current commitments. Will Marvel and Disney let the franchises die after the cast leaves or will a new cast take over?
Movie studios don’t like to let go of a good thing. They like to find ways to keep a lucrative franchise going, even without the original cast. For instance, when the younger cast of X-Men: First Class replaced the stars of the original trilogy; or when the Star Trek: Next Generation cast took over the Star Trek franchise from the classic Trek crew. Since Marvel/Disney’s the Avengers was a colossal hit and the sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron is expected...

Shmowzow! Adventure Time #28 is sadly less than mathematical.
Adventure Time the cartoon is a work of inspired foolishness set within a post-apocalyptic dystopian society. Adventure Time the comic book may have the same setting but it’s foolishness is anything but inspired. Forced would be a more accurate term.
The first story in Adventure Time #28 is a bland Ghostbusters ripoff featuring a group called the Ghost Destroyers. The Ghost Destroyers are summoned by Princess Bubblegum to catch Finn and Jake after they become ghosts. Around the time that the containment unit bursts and all the ghosts previously caught by the Ghost Destroyers escape to wreak havoc, it will become apparent that flipping...

So I got an e-mail from ‘Minimum Wage’ author Bob Fingerman regarding my most recent criticism of his comic. He answered one question: “Regarding the ‘By Bob Fingerman’ tag on #2, the design of the whole cover apes that of sleazy spinner-rack adult novels that littered drugstores, etc., in the ’60s and ’70s…” I definitely didn’t pick up on this so I very much appreciate his illumination on the subject. “As for the ‘Bob Fingerman’s’ on all other issues,” he contiues, “that’s partly a nod to the ego of John Carpenter (whose name as possessive adorns all his movie titles) and also a practical/pragmatic nod to branding. Unseemly, perhaps, but kind of necessary.” I’m definitely interested in why Bob felt it was necessary but it’s strictly a matter of curiosity and not one of disagreement.
But he also got to the meat of my objections...

Everyone’s tooting the Image horn, and with good reason, but they’re not the only source of excitement in the world of funny books these days. We’ve got horror, fantasy, multiple personalities, rock and roll gods, science fiction, warped Disney rides, and all sorts of other intensity heading our way. If you can’t spend $10 to see a movie, try forking over three or four dollars for an issue of one of these beauties…

Most Flogged is Psylocke | Photo by: Joseph Chi Lin
The X-Men aren't exactly lacking in firepower, but one of their most valuable weapons is their resident telekinetic ninja Psylocke, and for good reason. Aside from being able to “ask” someone to make her waffles at anytime with her telepathy, she can also create telekinetic constructs, which is a fancy way of saying she can create a crossbow with her mind. I think we can all agree that is awesome, and it seems the cosplay community thinks so too. While most of these pictures feature the classic Jim Lee era outfit, I was able to find a few modern and alternate versions of the character as well, so take a gander at some of the best Psylocke cosplay around.

King of the superhero porn parody is Axel Braun, whose film Batman XXX: A Porn Parody was the best-selling and best-renting title of 2010, leading to distributors Vivid to create their own superhero movie imprint, releasing parodies of Spider-Man, Superman and The Avengers. Somehow between the on-set injuries and all the Christopher Eccleston praise, news of Chris O'Dowd's casting in "Thor: The Dark World" slipped by unnoticed. The "Bridesmaids" actor's involvement, as reported by Indiewire, adds a whole new Earth-bound dimension to the out-of-this-world film, and it clarifies a tweet the actor posted last November.

O'Dowd mentioned his involvement in the film when questioned about where dramas and action movies fit in with his quickly expanding career.

The climax of the latest "Iron Man 3" trailer was packed with armor, hinting that it won't just be Tony Stark and James Rhodes donning a suit in the film. This fact has pretty much been confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige (spoilers ahoy), and it got us thinking about the other supporting characters that have taken on some of Marvel's most popular mantles. The aforementioned "Iron Man" films have done a decent job of expanding its characters into the roles assumed by their comic book counterparts. How do the rest fare?
"Captain America"
If Captain America's franchise follows the source material faithfully, we could leave "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" with a replacement Cap ready to go. Following the assassination of Steve Rogers just after Marvel's "Civil War" event, Bucky himself filled the role for two years. The Bucky Cap era was generally well-received...

We already know that actress Jaimie Alexander is a true warrior, having bounced back from a horrific injury she suffered on the set of "Thor: The Dark World." But what about her character, Lady Sif? What makes this Asgardian battle-maiden such a formidable foe to the forces of evil, and a valued ally to the God of Thunder?
This week in Galaxy Guide, we're going to take a look at the life and times of Thor's on-again, off-again love interest, who is a match for him not only in romance, but on the battlefield as well.
Based on the legends of the Norse goddess, Marvel Comics' version of Sif made her first appearance in 1964's "Journey Into Mystery" #102, by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, in the back-up "Tales of Asgard" feature. The sister of Heimdall, guardian of Asgard, the tale is told of how Thor as a teenager...
