David Benioff and D. B. Weiss’ Game of Thrones transcends boundaries as a beloved historical fantasy series. However, while captivating fans with a story based on uncertainty of life, ruthless wars, and politics, the HBO show unfortunately ended up failing to justify a few deaths that weren’t even a part of the original storyline crafted by George R.R. Martin.
HBO’s beloved series Game of Thrones
One such death occurred when Daenerys Targaryen’s loyal bodyguard Ser Barristan Selmy was killed off midway through season 5. The character’s tragic death occurred during an ambush by the Sons of the Harpy, which left fans of George R.R. Martin’s novels scratching their heads since it was a major diversion from the source material.

National Geographic's A Small Light continues tonight with another two episodes.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at what's ahead, and it looks like things are going from bad to worse for Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber).
In the clip, we see Miep (Bel Powley) speak to Otto about recent events and how things might change very soon.
Otto is worried about the Nsb officer snooping around, but Miep tries to calm him down.
With his back pushed against the wall, Otto ponders what will happen next.
It's an excellent look at the series and how Miep tries to help Otto by making him realize that he's a wonderful father and has made the right decisions.

Warning: contains spoilers for Series 4 of Unforgotten
It’s been two years since the last season of ITV’s hit crime drama Unforgotten, and at long last it’s back on our screens.
After that shocking Series 4 finale, in which we said a heartbreaking goodbye to Dci Cassie Stuart (aka the incredible Nicola Walker), we’ve got plenty of questions about the Series 5 cast.
In this latest series, when a body is found in a boarded-up fireplace, the team gets to work trying to identify who the victim is, and how long they’ve been there. We also discover that the person filling Cassie’s very large detective shoes as Sunny’s new boss-slash-bestie will be the prickly Dci Jessica James, who doesn’t exactly make a great first impression.
Unlike the previous four series, Series 5 of Unforgotten will also be made available as a bingeable box-set on Itvx as...

It’s 1994, and the people of Northern Ireland are nearly three decades into a violent conflict known as the Troubles. Civilians — thousands of which died during the fray — are generally divided between Protestant unionists, who want to keep the country under United Kingdom control, and Irish Catholics, who call for a united Ireland. Day-to-day life in Derry involve armed military checkpoints, customary bomb disposals, and the constant hum of danger. Family members are in prison. Others are dead. An end to the Troubles is in sight, but for the teenage girls attending Our Lady Immaculate College, this is the only life they’ve ever known. That it may come to an end right as they graduate only instills further anxiety over the responsibilities of adulthood.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Season 3 of “Derry Girls.”
Season 3 of “Derry Girls” opens with a dramatic montage set to the tune of uilleann pipes, depicting Erin Quinn (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Orla McCool (Louisa Clare Harland), Clare Devlin (“Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan), James Maguire (Dylan Llewellyn) and Michelle Mallon (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell) leaning pensively against walls, playing soccer and doing cartwheels, interspersed with shots of burning cars and soldiers carrying guns. Season 3 of “Derry Girls” opens with a dramatic montage set to the tune of uilleann pipes, depicting Erin Quinn (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Orla McCool (Louisa Clare Harland), Clare Devlin (“Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan), James Maguire (Dylan Llewellyn) and Michelle Mallon (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell) leaning pensively against walls, playing soccer and doing cartwheels, interspersed with shots of burning cars and soldiers carrying guns. A first look at the third and final season of “Derry Girls” is finally here — and just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 has unveiled the first Season 3 still and trailer for the show, which garnered global popularity via Netflix. The drama is created and written by Lisa McGee, who mined her own experiences growing up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.
While Season 1 observed the gang navigating their teens in 1990s Derry against a backdrop of The Troubles, Season 2 charted the group navigating their parents, parties, love interests and school against the backdrop of a precarious peace process. In Season 3 — which still doesn’t have a launch date on Channel 4 — viewers will see that while Northern Ireland is growing up, “this gang of eejits certainly aren’t anytime soon.”

“Derry Girls,” the popular Channel 4 comedy set in 1990s Northern Ireland, is ending after its upcoming Season 3, creator Lisa McGee announced on Twitter on Thursday.
Season 3, which is heading into production, will mark the end of the show, but a trio of seasons was always the plan, McGee said.
“It was always the plan to say goodbye after three series. ‘Derry Girls’ is a coming of age story; following five ridiculous teenagers as they slowly…very slowly…start to become adults, while around them the place they call home starts to change too and Northern Ireland enters a new, more hopeful phase — which was a small, magical window of time,” McGee wrote. “‘Derry Girls’ is a love letter to the place I come from and the people who shaped me. It has been an honour to write it and I will be forever proud of everything it’s achieved.

Derry Girls has been one of our favorite shows ever since it first aired back in 2018, and luckily, we won't have to wait long for it to return. Ian McElhinney, who plays Granda Joe, recently confirmed in an interview with the Belfast Telegraph that filming for the third series is due to begin next month.
It's been two years since series two ended, and we've been desperately awaiting the return of our favorite cast members, so we're naturally very excited by this news. A specific date for filming has yet to be confirmed, but since it's basically September already, we can only imagine that it'll begin pretty soon!
With filming beginning imminently, the next question on everyone's lips is: when will it air? Well, McElhinney also mentioned that the team hopes to finish filming by Christmas, with the series set to land on our screens in early 2022. Earlier this year,...

Among the detective dramas and high-stakes thrillers due to arrive on British television in the next year or so, there are a clutch of sci-fi, supernatural and horror shows also coming our way. April saw the release of Sky One original Intergalactic – the story of a wrongly imprisoned galactic pilot who breaks out of space jail with a gang of other high-security female prisoners – and Netflix has ordered fantasy novel adaptations Half Bad, Cuckoo Song, Lockwood & Co. and The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – respectively, tales of witches, supernatural pacts, ghost-hunters, and a woman who jumps between bodies in her quest to solve a murder mystery. Coming to terrestrial TV, there’s Life After Life and The Three, stories about living multiple versions of the same life, and the miraculous child survivors of a mysterious plane crash.
On top of that, there’s plenty of true crime, thrillers, a new...

Two months ago we previewed Everybody Flies, one of the standout documentaries premiering at the 2019 Raindance festival in London. Today, we spotlight the next project from writer/director Beth Moran and her producing partner Tristan Loraine.
The short film Missing a Note recently premiered at the New Renaissance Film Festival where it won the award for Best Short. The film deals with a young schoolgirl who wants to be a singer, and whose relationship with a former opera singer suffering a mental decline brings the two together in unexpected ways.
The short offers a thematic resonance to some of the films Moran has produced previously. Last year she produced The Frontier: Ukraine and Lucy: Breaking the Silence, two films which put the humanity of its subjects at the forefront. Though the conflicts in those two films were so different, one internal and the other brutally external, it is the personal...

Syfy has canceled its Superman-prequel “Krypton” after two seasons, while also deciding not to move forward with its “Lobo” spinoff, TheWrap has learned.
Both “Krypton” and “Lobo” were from Warner Horizon, which will shop “Krypton” to other outlets, an individual with knowledge of the discussions tells TheWrap. “Krypton,” which centered on Superman’s grandfather, wrapped its second season on Wednesday. The network was also developing a spinoff around the bounty-hunter Lobo, who made his debut this season.
“Krypton” took place about 200 years before Superman existed and centers on his grandfather and his quest to save his planet from destruction.
Cameron Cuffe starred as Seg-El, while Emmett J. Scanlan played Lobo.
“Krypton” also starred Georgina Campbell, Shaun Sipos, Colin Salmon, Ann Ogbomo, Aaron Pierre, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Blake Ritson and Ian McElhinney. Krypton was executive produced by David S. Goyer, alongside Cameron Welsh, who served as showrunner.

There will be no more Krypton on Syfy. The network has opted not to renew the Superman origin drama series, and the recent Season 2 finale August 14 was a series finale on the NBCUniversal cable network. This Krypton review contains spoilers.
“Zods and Monsters” unpacks the complicated history of Doomsday, the mythical beast of the Outlands, who was brought to heel by Dru-Zod and his codex Bfg. And while General Zod says he’s still mourning the death of his mother, Lyta, he’s also looking to the stars as a conqueror – with the soon-to-be reconditioned Doomsday as his superweapon.
In typical Zod fashion, he needs Doomsday compliant, but he isn’t precisely concerned with the beast making speeches – which is a shame because Dd has seen quite a lot. Hewing close to his comic book origin as a Kryptonian “evolved” into an unstoppable beast, the flashbacks this week are tragic as we see the Zods and Els subjecting the volunteer Dax Baron to brutal experimentations.

Krypton Season 2 Episode 3
This week, Krypton spent a lot of time lauding main character Seg’s will to live, also the title of the episode, only to kill him off. Well, “just a little,” before Adam un-deaded him. But the show continued its streak this season with solid performances, if light on action.
Yet what happens when the happenings of Krypton itself are the least exciting part of the story?
Picking back up on Colu, Seg (Cameron Cuffe) and Adam (Shaun Sipos) are running like mad through the planet’s lush forests to evade Lobo. But it’s more difficult to evade Brainiac, who is squatting in Seg’s head. The dynamic between our heroes continues to fuel the show, even in its comedic attempts at tenderness.

Krypton Season 2 Episode 2
The main man is the main attraction this week on Krypton, as the second episode of the season features a whole lot of the alien bounty hunter, and leaves the audience wanting more.
Emmett J. Scanlan is a thrill to watch in “Ghost in the Fire,” and I say this as someone who is not a particularly big Lobo fan, and did not have a heckuva lot of enthusiasm to see him in live action. Now, I am all in for the recently announced spinoff series (although Syfy should have announced it following the airing of this excellent character showcase).
Whether he’s threatening (and flirting with) Seg and Adam, or goofing on the names Seg-El and “Craptown” (definitely the name of a musical with puppets), this...

Krypton Season 2 Episode 2
The main man is the main attraction this week on Krypton, as the second episode of the season features a whole lot of the alien bounty hunter, and leaves the audience wanting more.

Krypton Season 2 Episode 1
It is a whole new world on Krypton. As the second season of the Superman prequel series begins, the show has expanded its scope in a grand way, and right out of the gate sets up interesting character arcs, and a bevy of baddies.
The first season of Krypton, led by showrunner Cameron Welsh, did an admirable job of combining political intrigue with sci-fi and time-travel tropes set within the DC Universe, but with characters most people don’t know – in the past on a planet everyone knows is doomed. Somehow, against all odds, it worked. The inaugural outing also assembled an ensemble of actors, led by Cameron Cuffe as Superman’s grandfather Seg-El, a reluctant smart-ass hero who isn’t...

Warning: spoilers for Game of Thrones ahead.
Everyone from Edmure Tully to Robin Arryn makes a surprise appearance in the Game of Thrones finale, but the most unexpected throwback of the evening goes to Ser Barristan Selmy. The former Commander of the Kingsguard and loyal follower of Daenerys Targaryen dies in season five, and the actor who played the character wasn't too pleased with his early exit.
Per The Telegraph, Ian McElhinney claims he wasn't told about his character's death ahead of time, which is a pretty big deal since in the books Selmy is still alive and well. That's why the moment his page in The Book of Brothers is shown as Brienne flips to Jaime's entry feels so special. The old knight never fully got his due on screen, but at least the writers found a way to acknowledge his influence on the story as a whole.

Fans of the A Song of Ice and Fire have been waiting for a very long time for George R.R. Martin to finish The Winds of Winter. After that he has one more book to write in the series called A Dream of Spring.
I always thought it would be a cool surprise if after HBO’s Game of Thrones series came to an end, Martin would reveal that the books we’ve all be waiting for have already been completed. Then he’d release them and say, “this is how the story is really supposed to end!”
Well, a rumor recently surfaced from an unlikely source saying that Martin has already completed the final two books in the series! That source is Game of Thrones star Ian McElhinney, who plays Ser Barristan Selmy in the show. He dropped this bit of surprising information from out of nowhere. You can...

George R.R. Martin publicly ends the inane rumors, spread including by a former Game of Thrones actor, that he's finished the books.
Many folks wish George R.R. Martin finished ages ago the narrative he began with A Game of Thrones in 1996. Given the contentiousness with which the HBO adaptation of Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire,” Game of Thrones, has presented the ending Martin outlined to its showrunners, we imagine they’re among them. Despite having his fifth volume of the epic, A Dance with Dragons, published the same year the first season of Game of Thrones premiered, the sixth and alleged penultimate book in the series, The Winds of Winter, still never materialized. As a consequence, Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had to more or less come up with their own journey to what seems to be Martin’s ultimate endgame plan.
