Father of the actress Giovanna Mezzogiorno who, like her father, worked with director Peter Brook (eg. in Brook's Qui Est La?, Paris, spring 1996).

He appeared in three films that were in competition for the Palme D'Or at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival: Nostalghia (1983), The Moon in the Gutter (1983) and The Wounded Man (1983).
