The BBC Studios Natural History Unit has commissioned three series for BBC One, BBC Two and iPlayer. “Mammals” (6 x 60’), coproduced by France Televisions, Zdf and BBC America, offers insights into the most widespread animal group in the world.

“Big Little Journeys” (3 x 60’), coproduced by PBS, follows the real-life adventures of six tiny animals as they voyage into the unknown. “Wild Scandinavia” (3 x 60’), coproduced by PBS and Sveriges Television, and narrated by actor Rebecca Ferguson (“Dune”), celebrates the wildlife, landscapes and culture of the furthest northern reaches of Europe.

BBC Studios is handling international distribution and will present the series to international customers at BBC Studios Showcase taking place on Feb. 27 and 28.

Exclusive: Looking for Jane, the book by Heather Marshall, is getting the small-screen treatment.

The project is in the works from BentFrame Film & TV, the Toronto-based production company run by Coroner exec producer Adrienne Mitchell, and Tehran and Reginald the Vampire producer Cineflix Studios.

Spanning six decades and multiple timelines, Looking for Jane tells the story of three women whose lives are bound together by a long-lost letter and a secret network of women fighting for the right to choose.

Inspired by the real-life Jane Collective that provided safe but illegal abortions under the constant threat of police raids and prison, the series comes around the 50th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, which was recently overruled.

The CW has acquired additional seasons of Canadian drama series Coroner and Burden of Truth, along with a three-episode Bulletproof special event. Coroner and Burden of Truth were previously renewed in Canada for their third and fourth seasons, respectively, and are currently in production on the new seasons. The Bulletproof three-episode special event, labeled by producers as the series’ third season, was filmed earlier this year and will air in the UK in 2021. The CW premiere dates will be announced at a later time.

The U.K.’s Channel 4 has acquired rights to season one and two of Canadian public broadcaster CBC’s original drama “Coroner” from distributor Cineflix Rights.

Channel 4 will make the series available to U.K. viewers on its More 4 channel.

The deal follows The CW Network’s acquisition of “Coroner” for the U.S. market earlier this month, and comes as CBC announces the greenlight of season three of the drama, which is currently in pre-production.

Produced by Muse Entertainment, Back Alley Films and Cineflix Studios, “Coroner” (16 x 60′) follows a recently widowed, newly appointed coroner who investigates suspicious, unnatural or sudden deaths in Toronto.

The deal with Channel 4 was brokered by Sandra Piha, senior VP for sales and pan-regional for U.K., Eire, and Scandinavia at Cineflix Rights.

NBCUniversal International Networks has pay-tv rights to all three seasons of the series across multiple markets.

American fans of the TV series Durham County no longer need to come to Canada to buy the second season on DVD. In fact, the second season of this Canadian TV series will be released on DVD on November 23. Toronto -- Atom Egoyan's racy marital thriller "Chloe" leads the field with five nominations for the upcoming Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) Awards.

The Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore-starrer from Sony Pictures Classics will challenge for best feature, best movie direction for Egoyan, and in three craft categories.

The Dgc kudosfest also handed out four nominations each to the CBS cop dramas "The Bridge" and "Flashpoint," both of which are lensed in Toronto.

Canada's Movie Central and The Movie Network today announced that they have given the greenlight to a four-hour mini-series adaptation of the long-running superhero 'The Phantom'. The series will be a co-production with Sci Fi Channel (soon to be renamed Syfy). It will debut on Movie Central and The Movie Network in spring 2010.

The Phantom was created by Lee Falk and first appeared in 1936 as a newspaper strip. Since then a character with that name has appeared in comic books by numerous publishers throughout the world. The Phantom has also starred in animated and live-action screen adaptations. The latter include a 1940s movie serial, a 1996 theatrical film and a 1961 TV pilot.
